Popular manga character Doraemon got an unexpected crossover back in 2019 with the Story of Seasons franchise. This charming blue cat (yes, he is a robotic cat) made for a perfect fit with the chill farming vibes of Marvelous' well-known farming sim in Doraemon Story of Seasons, and because everyone fell utterly head-over-heels for it (they did, right?), we're getting another dose of Doraemon.
Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom featured in today's Nintendo Direct Mini with more lovely manga-esque cutscenes and watercolour visuals. This time Doraemon and his friends crash land on a mysterious planet, and try to get on with things by starting up a farm, raising crops, fishing, and more. You'll even get to sit at the table and — get this — eat with Doraemon!
With local co-op, you'll be able to play together with a friend and raise a farm between the two of you, and with Doraemon at your side, there are plenty of trusty gadgets he can use to help you both speed through your crops.
After the reveal, the game's producer shared a message — and some more gameplay — in a video on Bandai Namco's YouTube channel. Check it out below!
We were rather taken with the original game when it was first released in 2019 and gave it a 7/10 in our review, saying:
Doraemon Story of Seasons is an enchanting, relaxing romp through a world that is so much simpler than ours. With gorgeous visuals and a never-ending list of things to do, it’s unlikely that you’ll get bored while playing it.
Were you a fan of the first game? Will you be picking up Friends of the Great Kingdom when it launches later this year? let us know!

I don’t need this but I shall likely get this. The bokumono crossovers have been fun.
Really enjoyed Story of Seasons.
Not sure how neccessary a sequel on Switch is though.
The first installment was a fantastic game, overlooked and underrated. I'm so happy to see a sequel. Happier than if Marvelous had announced another mainline Story of Seasons title. I don't have much faith in the mainline series anymore.
@Burning_Spear Yeah, after playing Olive Town I appreciated the Doraemon crossover a lot more.
@Wordbonder Other than not having dating and marriage, for obvious reasons, it felt like an homage to the games from the GBA and GameCube days.
@Burning_Spear Yeah, the art had so much charm too.
Wait, I didn't know there was a trailer of Doraemon Story of Seasons sequel. 😯
I will get the PS4 version as I have scheduled to get the PS4 version of the first game. 😊
Will most likely skip this as I was never a fan of Nobita. I have a good list of reasons why I do not like Nobita.
@tinlunlau Is it because he's a whiny little shiii...mpleton of a kid? My kids seem to love Doraemon but not sure how they will get on with these sort of games.
@LavaTwilight that is precisely the reason why I don't like Nobita. This may be a bit of a surprise but Guillermo del Toro is a huge fan of Doraemon. I didn't believe it at first but I asked him face-to-face during a set visit many years ago and he confirmed it. He does specifically add in that he is a fan of the Doraemon movies.
Can't have too many farm sims!
@Ursaking
That was a good news for gamers who have interest in farming sim games.
Not everyone have interest with games like xenoblade or zelda or metroid.
@Anti-Matter I like farm sims. I was excited about this game because I can never have too many of them.
Doraemon and farming games are a perfect match, especially by the people who CREATED Harvest Moon (not the Natsune ones, the story of season ones)
