The latest UK charts data has arrived, bringing with it a new number one and a familiar slate of Switch titles in the top 10.
Nintendo Switch Sports remains as the best-performing Switch title, sliding down one position to 3rd for the last week - it's showing solid momentum at retail. Horizon Forbidden West continues to go well on PS5, helped by hardware stock and bundles, but the new number one this week is Sniper Elite 5; the vast majority of its sales were on PS4/PS5, with its presence on Game Pass perhaps contributing to low Xbox sales.
Otherwise, the top 10 is very familiar from a Switch perspective, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Pokemon Legends: Arceus still around. Minecraft (Switch edition) is also performing well, and it's worth noting that a combination of a lower price, promotions and late-season life meant that a whopping 49% of FIFA 22 sales were the Switch version.
One final note - The House of the Dead: Remake made its chart debut from the launch of the physical Switch edition, securing 14th place.

So, no matter of the quality of the game, people will buy just because it’s an exclusive from nintendo. Why would nintendo bother to make a better game if it sells anyway.
@clianvXAi Exactly. Why gripe continually about how mediocre and lazy a port is or Nintendo's business practices, when in reality you only have yourself to blame, for supporting these development choices by purchasing the game itself?
You must be really desperate for something to play if you’re buying this.
How many copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has everyone else bought? I've personally bought it 7 times now
Switch Sports is performing as well as we all knew it would. Still, Sony have managed to take top spot a couple of times. There is a small chance PS5 was the best selling console of May in the UK.
But please remember, most of the folk buying Switch Sports are unlikely to be waiting for Bayo 3 lol. Gaming is for everyone doesn't mean all games should be tailored to you. Let folk play what they want and stop moaning. It's only sales charts. Gamers aren't some mass horde all into the same stuff and buying stuff because they have nothing better to do lol.
@GrailUK People moan about it because Switch Sports is a shallow experience and not at all the successor to Wii Sports people here were hoping for, and it selling like this just gives Nintendo the message that it's okay to keep cutting corners like this.
I'm all for letting people enjoy what they want, and I'm glad people are able to enjoy Switch Sports, but this development does worry me a great deal for not just this Sports series but Nintendo gaming as a whole. Big titles like triple A Zelda likely won't follow suit, but I can see them doing this with a lot more of their games because of this trend.
Let’s be honest, the people complaining about Nintendo Switch Sports were never the target audience for the game. The target audience was the casual crowd who just wanted to play it with their friends and families.
FIFAAAAAAAAAA!
** shakes fist **
I really like the game - please don’t hurt me!
@Yosher I bet there are tons of folk enjoying Switch Sport. Let them play it, I say The only signal it sends to Nintendo is it's good practice to get as many folkinto gaming as possible by offering different games. Nothing wrong with that. The more in depth you make something, the less people you appeal to (especially if you are trying to attract people not into more conventional stuff.)
@BulkSlash all joking aside, I’ve bought it three times… Wii U, then the DLC, then digitally for Switch, physically for my daughter, and most recently the Booster pack
I've held off buying Nintendo Switch Sports, and from looking at most others reactions, I'm glad I did. I'm not saying it's bad, it just seems very run of the mill to me...
@AmplifyMJ I might end up buying it physically again if they do an updated release with the new Booster tracks on the card. I think Resident Evil 4 is the game I've re-bought the most! 😅
@GrailUK I would agree with you, if it weren't for the fact that they're taking this approach with other games too. The Mario sports games, ARMS, even Kirby Star Allies. Splatoon started this whole thing for Nintendo but for that game it felt more natural at least. I still find it a worrying trend.
Of course I'll happily let people enjoy what they want to enjoy but I can't help but feel that these types of games performing well for Nintendo is a bad sign of their future development cycles.
I do genuinely hope these concerns are unnecessary, but as it is, the concerns remain. Particularly since I've already had a few beloved series ruined for me because of it with an uncertain future for how the next games will be handled.
So yes, I do apologize if I'm one of those that moan too much about these things, but know it's never because I wish people wouldn't enjoy these games, it's because of worries for the future of games that gamers like you and I enjoy.
Switch Sports is an ok game and yes, could have been better of course! However games 1 and 2 make perfect sense to me and especially Horizon Forbidden West which IMO is probably one of the best games of all time along with Zero Dawn.
Mario Strikers is gonna dominate the UK charts hard if FIFA & Switch sports are any indicator
I played Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures on XBOX 360 instead lol, since I got the machine last Saturday.
I played Boxing from Kinect Sports since Switch Sports doesn't have Boxing.
@karatekid1612 Horizon are seriously good games, but best of all time? No. That's Breath of the Wild. (Well at least, that's my opinion after playing all three of the games)
However you can clearly see when there are new drops of PS5 stock using these charts. Same for me, I was finally able to get a PS5 1.5 weeks ago.
@sanderev and a very good opinion you have too, that's why I said one of the best games of all time, as BOTW is in my top 5 as well To be fair, Zelda and Mario games, would pretty much make up my top ten apart form the Horizon series.
@Yosher I get you. There is a lot to be worried with the future of gaming. But at least your avatar picture is more chill about it these days hahaha
@clianvXAi,
They have made a simple motion controlled Sports game in the vein of the original Wii Sports, it's appealing to the very wide market of Switch owners, that are not all core gamers who have played these games before... not sure the Nintendo getting away with things matters here, the game is great for what it is.
More content would be nice, but there is more than enough to have some fun with your family and friends and online, pretty sure more content will be planned over time.
Golf is already confirmed, sure more sports will be added.
Switch sports was always going to do well. My kids are only young so Wii Sports means nothing to them and we’ve been having a great time with it in our house.
For those slagging off Switch sports, have you actually played it for any length of time? The control scheme is actually very polished. It picks up subtle flicks of the wrist along with finesse. It’s a very tight control scheme. That and the fact that it’s actually really fun, it’s a budget title and it has better online play than most Nintendo titles suggests to me that it’s more than worth it
@Yosher If you look at the games with the model, Kirby Star Allies is the exception in the sense that all the others are online focused so I think single player games in general are safe. I'd guess the situation with Star Allies was the situation of too many 2D platformers in a short space of time, the final update launched in December 2018 and the 1st half of 2019 was almost nothing but 2D platformers.
@Yosher But games like Kirby Forgotten Land, Mario Odyssey, Arceus, Fire Emblem, Luigi’s Mansion, Xenoblade, and even Metroid Dread sold well. Which clearly shows Nintendo that people like quality single player games. I don’t see them alienating those fans just because their live service games and those shallow/easy games also have a huge audience.
@Chibi,
That was my biggest concern, my Switch dock is behind my T.V and some of the games the pointer was off.
But those Joycon updates must have paid off, as the control on Switch Sports is so responsive, and has a lot of nuance.
@shining_nexus,
Basically on here everybody or lots of people are upset, tends to be individuals in reality.
@Jireland92 exactly. if nintendo doesn't release AAA game they're crying. company can't earn money, nintendooms etc.. like a bunch of children crying.
@johnvboy weren't we laughing a few weeks back about that classic "celebrating mediocrity" line? As if the entire Switch user base and Nintendo themselves are hanging on to every word typed in these comment sections?
@shining_nexus @Grumblevolcano You never know with Nintendo, though. They introduced this model with Splatoon, and thought it was a good functioning model so they started doing it with more games. Who's to say they won't begin doing it with non-online games in the future?
Also, my worries aren't just limited to what could happen with other types of games, but also how long this trend continues with these online games they're already doing it with and have already, IMHO, ruined. So I'm wondering when (or maybe rather, IF) they'll return these series back to the old way of finishing games BEFORE release and having plenty to do on day 1 again.
@BulkSlash aw I’ve bought it twice, one of the greatest games ever, that first time I played it on GameCube? Blew me away. The Wii Edition was excellent, only reason I didn’t download again on Switch was there was no motion controls.
@WiltonRoots,
Love the way that anybody not bothered with all this. and enjoying the game is labelled as a defender etc, and always using the same old arguments etc. But the complainers always use their own tried and tested subjective opinions as to why this game is bad/rushed etc etc....
You just could not make any of this up...
@Yosher I think Kirby will show them it doesn't work for single player, Forgotten Land (which released in the traditional way) is likely going to outsell Star Allies' lifetime sales in the space of 3 months.
The online focused ones will probably stay though as the focus about online is maintaining playerbase, best chance of returning to normal for that is Nintendo paying attention to the Halo Infinite trainwreck where a massive content drought (among other things) is bleeding the playerbase.
Oh, btw.
It wasn't about the minority crying / complaining for the specific games.
I personally felt disappointed to see Nintendo made a decision like this by releasing unfinished games, adding more contents by live service update, something that I started to feel wasn't right.
And I think Switch Sports doesn't deserve for appreciation like that when practically the game offered less contents (lesser sports choices, lesser gameplay mode) when the other similar games from 3rd party developers have better contents in my opinion.
You can say it was a good game for defend, but I cannot defend this game as clearly i saw a huge flaw from gaming model like that.
@Grumblevolcano Whatever is needed for Nintendo to get that wake up call, I hope they get it soon. Also hope you're right with the single player games, but this is still Nintendo we're talking about.
@BANJO I did buy it physically at launch, so it was $50. At least on the eShop it is $40 (leg strap is only used for one mode in single player mode as of yet).
I agree with the reviews, decent, but not enough variety to be an 8 or higher.
Still, a fun party game. Look for a used copy for cheaper, if people are curious. Or wait for a sale.
@johnvboy There's people having get togethers playing this game and having a proper old jolly, getting their mums and nans and grandads and aunts involved, loads of laughs and fun, but somewhere, in the deepest darkest recesses of a comment section in Nintendolife, there's people seething, calling them bootlickers and apologists and celebrators of mediocrity. Do they hear them or read their comments? Strongly doubt it, they're too busy having fun.
@AmplifyMJ I bought the Switch version of RE4, it was a big disappointment that they didn't include gyro aiming so you were right to avoid it. The Wii version is still the best I think, the motion controls are still excellent.
@BulkSlash I was 100% gonna buy it for the third time, but that completely put me off, so no sale from me unfortunately on that occasion
@Tandy255 I'm glad you have had a good time with the game. Yes, once it's in a sale and golf is added I might pick it up, although I still think another sport after golf is needed really to make it a good buy..
@Croarus people need to understand that Nintendo need to have these smaller titles to fill up their release calendar too. It’s why they pivoted to the current model of releasing more content later soo they can get the game out faster.
I have been enjoying my bowling time with my girlfriend on Friday or Saturday nights, especially with the release of new cosmetics each week. To be fair though, the default costumes/items included in the game is frustratingly limited so this weekly content drip feed was clearly always the intent. And another intent was probably Nintendo's thinking of drip feeding content in order to get people to have an excuse to get a little more sociable and active on the weekends. I am not complaining, just wish there were more defaults options of every aspect of character customization. I only use my mii though so it doesn't really affect me that much. I prefer using my closest likeness, and the mii characters are just more charming overall for me.
@presenttense it seems that everyone that don't have the game needs play this game. You can see this reading the other comments (even in other old posts). At end everyone wants to play this game!
@clianvXAi If people actually bought it and enjoy it then I guess they already had their money's worth. Yes the game maybe lazy but remember Switch Sports is not made to be a spectacle marvel, it's a sport compilation made for fun or to kill time.
@Anti-Matter I don't think the game was made to have more contents, it's probably made as a time killer compilation. It's cheap sports compilation that you could waste time with and that is it. My only issue is that it isn't a bundle game with anything on the Switch. If it came bundle with Switch Lite or Switch OLED it would be of better value to me as it's usually a compilation I don't buy unless it's super cheap like Doom.
It seems like Nintendo just wanted to release a small little fun burst like the original Wii Sports but releasing it separately for some reason. Seems to be working though, look at the money!
@clianvXAi your saying it like it's bad thing when it's not
@NotArmani "releasing separately for no reason" that claim is invalid
@Grumblevolcano people are claiming that switch sports has zero players right now when their not
@johnvboy why are people who like this game is labeled a defender?
@Ayasplat.
Because the people that do not like the game can't understand why everybody does not feel the same way they do, the games sales should be a slight indicator.... but I guess not.
@Ayasplat What do you mean by that? I just think it feels more like something that should've released earlier on rather than late like as a launch title or something, though that's just me.
@johnvboy seems right on rgt 85 video their is a person named emoji shark who is saying "switch is nintendo's weakest ever"
@NotArmani from what other people are saying battle league has more stuff in their then charged
