Retro Forge Games, developer of the upcoming pixel art Metroidvania Souldiers, has just today announced that the game is being delayed very slightly.
The development team is very apologetic for this short notice rescheduling, as the game was originally due out this month, on 19th May. Now Metroidvania fans will have to wait a few more weeks to get their hands on the game.
Here is Retro Forge Games' statement on Twitter:
Mighty warriors,
We know how eager you are to begin your adventure in Terragaya. However, the release for Souldiers, originally scheduled for May 19th, has to be postponed despite our best efforts to June 2nd on all platforms.
This is certainly not an announcement we wanted to make, we owe to be as transparent and honest as possible with you all. We've run into some unexpected difficulties and want to make sure that the experience we're offering you is the best it can be, so we've had to slightly delay the launch of the game. But don't worry, it's just a matter of two weeks!
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
Published by Dear Villagers, this brutal action platformer will allow you to play as three different classes, solve puzzles in a daunting Metroidvania-style map, and get to grips with challenging Souls-like combat when it releases on 2nd June. A physical release is due out further down the line, too. We hope those extra two weeks allow the developers to iron out those last few bugs and ship out a game that it's proud of!
If you're looking to pick this up, let us know how you feel about the delay, and whether you're grabbing a physical edition.

I'm looking forward for reviews on this one and maybe playing it. I like the idea of a metroidvania with character classes and the style is interesting. I doubt too many people were so on-the-edge-of-their-seat to care about a 2 week delay, but hopefully the delay will make it a little more stable; we all love stability around here (looks at latest Switch version update)
Have posted this elsewhere but please developers please don’t put the the word soul in your game, be more original u r better than that! Xxx
I have no problem with a delay, especially a small one. As long as they deliver on a good game with tight controls, take as long as you need. I'm looking forward to this game, looks really fun.
Metroidvania... 🤭
@Dragonslacker1 Wait what's wrong with the word soul?
@Serpenterror for me because of dark souls popularity and it being such a reference point in reviews and stuff, it jus seems over done. Eldest souls, unsouled, 6 souls and tons of other games I can’t think of off the top of my head. Is there a soul knight or hollow souls game?. To me just seems like a cheap way to sell a game xx
@Serpenterror Crossing souls, young souls, beat souls the list goes on x
Very much looking forward to this one, so this announcement doesn't bother me at all.A small delay now is much than releasing a buggy-ass game and patching it later. Also, I like the title.
I don't usually care for any game that describes itself as a souls-like (no hate for the series here, I just don't have the time to invest on games that pride themselves on being too challenging) but the pixelart on this has me sold. Waiting two weeks more is fine
There's demo for the game in steam, it's pretty good.
The devs needn't worry, a game is ready when it's ready.
I'll be going physical for this anyway so I'm good.
No hurry.
@Dragonslacker1 It's not like all of those games are Soulslike games. It's just a word and games used it long before Demon's Souls and will use it long after.
But.. June 2nd isn't summer.
Highly looking forward to this one and likely a day one purchase as I told the team on Reddit. They can take all the time they need if it means a better, more polished game with little to no bugs.
@Lyricana
I know… if it was delayed to Jun 21 or later I was going to recommend Summer Soulstice for the tag line. 😉
@Teksetter Haha! Nice.
No worries, as long as the game is polished.
Looking forward to this one!
