Alongside the Mario Golf update for Switch Online's N64 Expansion Pack library, Nintendo has also released a new update for its battle royale game, Tetris 99.
Instead of a themed update, this time around its a patch, bumping the game up to Version 2.3.0. It addresses multiple issues to improve the overall experience. Here are the full patch notes, courtesy of Nintendo's official support page:
Ver. 2.3.0 (Released April 14, 2022)
"Several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience."
This latest update follows on from a themed event in January for the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The previous software update before this was in April last year - so roughly a year ago. You can view Tetris 99's full patch note history over on Nintendo's support webpage.

Ah, these ultra-descriptive patch notes never get old
Can never be against improving gameplay experience.
Time for a new Kirby theme!
I've been meaning to try this but lately I've been playing Tetris Effect in VR and holy moly what an incredible experience but as much as I enjoy Tetris I would be nervous going online going up against 99 other Players as I don't exactly consider myself a master of the game, I generally prefer playing by myself. That being said I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.
@RubyCarbuncle As with many other things, you get better at it the more you do it. I was playing it every day for the better part of a year because I was going for the in-game achievement of collecting 999 tickets from the daily missions (max 4 per day), and I improved substantially over that time. I'm still far from a master, but I've won a handful of times, which isn't nothing.
The battle royale mode isn't the toughest part, though. That would be the marathon mode, for 999 lines cleared. When I finally beat it (65 minutes, without pausing), I felt like clawing out my eyeballs.
....Is Tetris 99's offline mode...worth it? Like...both this and Pac-Man 99 I just didn't like because it's way too random when going against 98 people. Like seriously, I had a game in Tetris where I lost in the first few seconds...wtf? >.<
@Joeynator3000 it’s offline mode is absolutely worth it.
Oooooh, does this mean the Mario All-Stars one is available again?? Please tell me that wasn't only available for the Mario anniversary. If so, I'm gonna go on a homicidal rage.*
*For liability reasons, I should clarify this is a joke.
@Joeynator3000 : I bought the physical release solely for the offline DLC. I never got around to using the included 1 year NSO code either and sold it instead.
I enjoy playing the offline mode for the two random goals that generate daily (it generates two online goals as well) for which you earn tickets. I’ve been hoarding tickets in anticipation of an update like this.
The DLC is cheap enough, but it’s a pretty basic experience. You get bog-standard Marathon mode and an offline version of 99 for your money. If you want a beefier Tetris experience, there’s Tetris Effect: Connected and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. I don’t have Effect yet due to the exorbitant price and I’m holding out for a physical release instead.
@Silly_G I have Effect, actually. I do enjoy that one, but kinda just...want more, or something. xD
Ever since I play Tetris Effect, kinda makes me forgot all about this one.
@Joeynator3000 : In that case, forget the Tetris 99 DLC. The Puyo Puyo Tetris games have their own nonsensical story campaigns (if you’re into that kind of thing) and extra modes to toy with. If you don’t care for the story mode, then PPT2 renders its predecessor obsolete as it includes all of the modes from the first game and a few more. One of the most superfluous and derivative sequels I’ve ever seen/played, to be frank. DOOM II felt less derivative and that recycled all of the weapons/enemies/textures from the first game (while adding a few of its own).
@Not_Soos they did not add the mario all stars i missed it too
Blah. I got all excited for nothing.
The additional event themes aren’t yet redeemable with tickets.
@Silly_G Oddly enough, I have PPT2 already, no idea why but I couldn't just stay into it...it's....weird. >.< lol
@Silly_G Okay so it's not just me. Thought I was crazy for a second there.
@ZZalapski When I read it said 'Collect 999 Tickets' I thought it meant over time, not all at once. So I probably won't be doing that one any time soon.
I’d it just me or it’s been a while since we got a new theme? This and smash bros spirits were like
“Hey something new is coming this week”
Anyway… F-Zero GX Tetris theme right now Nintendo!!!
@YoshiF2 The last one was for Legends Arceus yeah. I was genuinely surprised they didn't do one for Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
I grabbed all of the previous event themes as they came out, I assume based on the patch notes that they've been added to the shop? The way OatmealDome says 'game data' seems to suggest otherwise though.
I'm hoping this means I can buy the Metroid Dread theme because I missed that event and was gutted.
It’s such a brilliant game. I play it from time to time now, but when I first got my Switch back in late 2019 I absolutely got cracked out on it.
But I love Tetris in general. I’ll get cracked out on any of them.
Wonder if it could mean they're clearing out room in the event data for more events to come.
Though I have no idea how full the space for event data was before the update.

>uses the key art from a bad Tetris game
