Following on from the incredibly enticing demo for Kirby and the Forgotten Land (which is out now, by the way), the first review for the full game has been published by Edge Magazine, and it's looking pretty positive!
The full review will be available in issue 370 of the magazine, but excerpts of the verdict have been added onto ResetEra (thanks, VGC!) with the game receiving an impressive 8/10.
While the publication stresses that "those who’ve never understood the appeal of Kirby are unlikely to be convinced by his move into 3D", it nevertheless sings the game's praises, stating that it may well be the perfect palate cleanser after the grim, brutal world of Elden Ring.
It goes on to state that the "compact, imaginative adventure is a low key triumph, a work of great craft and wit that, unlike its lead, doesn’t bite off more than it can chew and it only leaves you hungry for more."
We like the sound of that. Keep your eyes peeled for our own review of Kirby's next outing very soon. Be sure to let us know in the comments below if you're excited for the game, and check out our deep, scientific analysis of Kirby's animosity towards a literal tree.

SO excited for this! 🙌😍🎉
Demo seemed to spoon feed far to much for my liking.
Not normally interested in Kirby games, but definitely interested in this one. Demo was pretty good.
When will we see the @NintendoLife review?
I just hope that they have sorted out that horrific camera that was present in the demo. It was an enjoyable demo but the camera was fiddly and the depth of field at times was tough on the eyes.
"compact"
" leaves you hungry for more"
Sounds like it's short then.
@jarvismp Hmm, I literally didn't have to use the camera through the whole demo so wasn't a problem for me
I've lost a lot of interest in this game since its first reveal
@Clyde_Radcliffe This is my main question about this game... is it under ten hours and incredibly easy like most Kirby games? If so, I don't believe it's worth full price. I'm not being stupid over here asking for a "hardcore Kirby experience," more power to everyone who loves these games, but it's not for me from a cost/benefit standpoint.
it looks great and Demo was good fun (albeit quite easy).
@Lord It was opening two levels of a Kirby game. Not sure what you were expecting.
wow the negativity on this thread is amazing! you all woken up on the wrong side of the bed or something? this is a great direction for Nintendo to be taking with Kirby and the game looks great!
@Mr_Nutz Most Kirby games are typically short if you're not focusing on collecting things. But usually 8-10 hrs I'll say. I'm only guessing.
I'm stoked alot. I'm just impatient cuz I've never been this excited for a Kirby game since the Amazing Mirror years ago.
Last game I've played was Mass Attack. Skipped Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, & Star Allies. The exception is Rainbow Curse. that was a LATE buy.
I really don't understand why Kirby games being easy is a criticism. It's part of the DNA and has been since the original Kirby's Dreamland. If you really want a challenge, these games are great to go for 100% and the boss rushes don't hold back
@quinnyboy58 I agree. I know, right? It's not like you're suddenly forced to like it just because it has transitioned into 3D. I'm excited for once, in a level that's unlike the previous Kirby games, and can't wait for the future!
It's okay to not like it, but you don't need to be too negative about it. Just let people enjoy this game.
I’ve been skeptical about buying the game because of the Kirby stereotypes. I’ve never owned a Kirby game, and I was seriously considering starting off on this game. It probably isn’t the best way to start, because Kirby is famously 2D. I don’t want to spend $10 for every hour and a half I play the game. I understand Kirby can be fun, but from a single player experience I don’t entirely know what this game has to offer for me
Off topic, but do you ever wonder how these reviews would change if outside factors (such as Elden Ring's release date) were different?
@AW1Long Have you played the demo at all? Could be a good way to decide 😊
Ahh Friday hurry up and get here. Thanks.
@DreamlandGem I had no idea you were a Kirby fan!
@quinnyboy58 I'm not doubting it's a quality game (as Edge is very strict so an 8 from them is excellent) but hoping it's at least got some longevity if you want to 100% it. I'm not against shorter platformers as I've played through Sonic Forces multiple times but then I brought that half price...
I did love the demo and it will be my first Kirby game since Air Rise as the 2D ones are a little too basic for my tastes but just curious on if it will have some kind of end game (after all Mario Odyssey was fairly short if you're just talking about seeing the ending) Hopefully the mini games will keep me coming back too.
@DreamlandGem
Nope. I guess I can’t judge too much from the trailers. I’ll try and get it installed tonight, and I’ll see how it goes
@Lord It's... it's a Kirby game.
@Screen Good question...🤔
Perhaps if another game were in a similar genre there'd be aneffect...
I'll play Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush on Wii U while I wait. Despite how cute that game looks it's surprisingly quite difficult if you're planning on 100% it.
Kirby sucks. 😜
Still getting it
I hope it’s not another 5-6 hours of gameplay for 60$. More and more nintendo games start to be shorter and shorter but the price remain the same.
@CharlieGirl Haha, huge secret of mine tbh!
@AW1Long Hope you enjoy!
I've Already Pre-purchased the Masterpiece and it's Downloaded! Waiting to play it on Day 1! I can't wait!!!
@Axecon
Because if you don’t die fifty times it’s a game for baby’s./s
Honestly I prefer easier games to harder ones. I game to enjoy my time and escape the world. Not spend hours on one spot in the game because it is so brutally hard.
I'm ready for Nintendo Life's review, tbh.
I troll you guys at times, but I actually value your opinions. Fwiw, I get I'm nobody in the same sense as everyone is basically a nobody drifting on this rock.
looking forward to it!
@Clyde_Radcliffe Yeah that "compact" jumped out at me. I don't need it to be a 60 hour long game - I'm currently playing 2 - but for $60 12 hours would be nice. My concern is 6 hours and over before you know it. My young kids and I beat Star Allies in 2 or 3 days after school playing only a couple of hours a day.
I really don't care if the game is easy, but something like Yoshi's CW is not exactly easy, it just has no challenge. It's a different kind of game and that's ok. I had fun with it. I just don't wanna pay 60 for a game like that now, so let's wait for the reviews
If Kirby has a good number of collectibles and gives me a considerable number of gameplay hours, I'm in. If it's too short, I'd say I'll think twice before paying 6o bucks for it
Short or long, challenging or not, I just want it to be fun. The demo didnt knock me out my boots but I'll def be waiting for NLs review to see if there's any magic in it. Fingers crossed!
Lmfao going from Elden Ring to a Kirby game feels like it should be considered bullying.
I like easy games, I don’t want to play something that frustrates me.
Not sure if I have the money atm to buy this, but will get it pretty soon I’m looking forward to it!
I preordered this today - and I rarely preorder before seeing reviews! Roll on Friday (or Thursday if I’m lucky!)
In this thread: a bunch of 20 and 30-year-olds arguing about the length and difficulty of a Kirby game.
Edge arrived through my front door this morning but I haven't had time to take a look inside. Taking a look now!
Visuals are spoiled by the uncomfortable framerate.
Can't wait for this, absolute Nintendo magic!! Might as well say 9/10 because Edge always under score.
@blindsquarel well said totally agree!!
Yoshi new game comes next ? 2 kirby and 2 yoshi games since 3ds and Wiiu so ...
Kirby and Elden Ring do truly compliment each other. Both have their difficulty levels ppl complain about but they also have their target audiences and stick to their styles. Big fan of Kirby and Souls and like that they stick to their creative guns.
Also Kirby games have fun BRUTAL boss runs with a secret boss at the end usually. So hyped for that. The Star Allies one was nasty. Bullet Hell SHUMP boss.
@FleaBag_11 it could’ve scored 10/10 and people would still be negative on here, there’s no pleasing some people.
the demo was boring for me ...it was missing something
Impressions from the demo were that it was an enjoyable platformer but nothing special I'll buy it if it goes on sale
@quinnyboy58
Exactly. So much pessimism. For me at least I'm not a huge fan of Kirby by any means but I really liked the demo. Gonna pick this one up, always love a good platformer even if it ends up being easy or linear.
@blindsquarel
There is quite a lot of space between those two extremes you are talking about though.
I don't think anyone here who says they want a bit more of a challenge necessarily wants the game to be brutally hard.
@Kirby_Girl This! The boss runs truly are brutal haha. The Ultimate Choice was fantastic imo, made me clock in a lot of playtime on Star Allies
Kirby isn’t necessarily about challenge, it’s about being OP with style. For people that have taken the time to learn every power-up move and combo, they get that appeal. Everyone else that just goes through and kills every enemy with the basic attacks every time... can go play Mario, lol
@DreamlandGem the Star Allies Soul Melter arena was NASTY. Especially if you solo it. Last time I played it me and my friend did co-op suplex ability only. It was A BLAST.
@Kirgo
The first point is sarcasm as noted by the /s
The second is just my opinion on hard games versus easier games. Not saying harder games are bad and easier games are amazing but just if I had the two extremes I would choose easier.
I, for one, thoroughly loved the demo. Enough to play through it twice, which I rarely do these days. The game looks like a blast to play through. It's been a long time since I've been excited for an upcoming Kirby game. Probably since Crystal Shards. Friday can't come soon enough.
So looking forward to this game. I didn't even try the demo as want it to be a fresh experience when the it arrives soon 😎
@Skunkfish Let us know if there's anything noteworthy in it!
Just as an example, if you played the demo and didn’t set off a 6-bomb chain explosion to get the biggest explosion, then take that attack to kill the shield boss in satisfying short order (instead of sloppily spamming him - but cool if that made you happy) you missed where HAL really puts in the effort for your discovery. All Mario has is basic attacks. Kirby’s got style, man!
I've played a truck load of Kirby games in my time and virtually none of them have been bad. This one, "open world 3D" and all, looks special. Look forward to it.
There will be people that learn all the attack and combo abilities in this game and still think it’s nothing, but I’ll bet that’s a minority. More people at the intermediate to advance level of game skill could stand to max out all the crap HAL puts into the game, because that’s where more people in that skill group will find satisfaction in a Kirby game
Can’t wait. Still deep in the Elden Ring rabbit hole but will get around to it when I can. When Nintendo delivers, they deliver in spades.
hyped to play the first 3D mainline Kirby game, let see if Kirby and the Forgotten Land surpass my favorite Kirby game(Kirby Planet Robotbot), for all i have seen, the game have a high possibilty of becoming my favorite Kirby game.
I can see this game scoring pretty well. The demo was very fun.
@blindsquarel I like both ends of the spectrum. But more usually than not, games are my place to relax & turn off my brain and Kirby is the perfect series for that.
Hopefully Kirby will push console sales, although switch is already selling strong
8/10 from Edge is an amazing score. They use the full scale, so an average game gets a 5 for them rather than the 7 or even 8 most websites would give an average game.
Short and easy, not a great combo for a full priced game. I'll wait for at least more reviews but I'll probably get this used or on sale
Didn't read the review but did it mention anything about base building? One of the Wii games had you build, furnish and rent out entire apartment buildings!
Leaked.. Leaked...
I wanted to like the demo and I've always wanted to like Kirby games in general but it's just too slow and floaty and easy for me. I thought they'd hinted at this as more of an open world game at first but the linearity of the demo was anything but open, there's nothing at all to explore and I just felt claustrophobic and like my hand was being held the whole time despite no challenge whatsoever. I know it was just the first couple levels but that's all I've got to go on and if it's "compact" then how much time is there really for it to open up and get more challenging? It's pretty to look at but it's not for me.
A good palette cleanser after Elden Ring, sure. If I was DONE with Elden Ring. Which I ain't. Wishlisted, though.
@Peach64 Edge is strict grader so an 8/10 from Edge is actually VERY GOOD for Kirby. They called the game a triumph. Looking GOOD
My 5 and 7 year old have played the demo a dozen times. Day one purchase for sure.
I liked the demo a lot. First Kirby game I'm interested in since the original Wii era.
Not a must buy on launch for me but probably a pick up on sale kinda game. Looks pretty fun
Shouldn’t the quote read: “those who’ve never understood the appeal of Kirby in 2D are unlikely to be convinced by his move into 3D”
Instead of 3D, 3D?
My 3 year old and I have played the demo probably eight or nine times.
This demo turned my toddler into a gamer. Games are hard, especially if you are 3. But he can finish the demo by himself now. I'm so proud and also terrified!
Kirby Star Allies is far too challenging for him, but I am playing through it again while we wait for Friday I am experiencing the absolutely massive volume of post-game content for the first time. Hopefully "compact" offers some room for bonuses and extras.
We cannot wait for Friday! So excited!
After playing the demo I cancelled my pre-order, it felt way too easy and didn't live up to my expectations. That said I'll be keeping an eye on the feedback after it comes out.
Day one and looking forward to it!
I’ve ordered it long ago, so no „negativity“ from me. But I still hope it’s not all super easy like the demo. Linearity I don’t mind, but it shouldn’t play itself. We’ll see.
I loved the demo. Just want the camra to be a bit better in 2 player. If the second player goes a short distance from player 1 they are warped back again. It's too restricted.
Ooh promising. Enjoyed the demo and looking forward to this one.
I will trade in DKTF
😃
@DanijoEX You need to play at least Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot. Easily two of the best Kirby games
