Well, he definitely deserves it
Yes, yes he does!!!
Well deserved, Smash Ultimate is one of the best games released by Nintendo, he is phenomenal
Removed - unconstructive
Deserved imo.
What is this Pretty Derby game that's on all the categories? First I've heard of it.
He definitely deserves it. One individual here seems to think otherwise, why? I do not know. The man has given us so much enjoyment over the years putting his health at risk in the process and it was about time he got the recognition he deserved.
@RubyCarbuncle I gave my reasons though, he doesn't think out the design and balance of his fighting games, and he has a stuck up attitude towards his critics.
@Noid He never came across as stuck up to me but ok.
Deserved.
So… kid icarus uprising 2 when?
@Noid Ah yes, because every video game he makes is extremely unbalanced and poorly designed, and has absolutely no options just in case anyone has a preference. And Sakurai has never, EVER have to try to work around a challenge, like a tight schedule, or a Nintendo console's weird controls. In fact, let's just blame everything on him and only him! It's not like there's a much bigger company or two behind the scenes that may or may not decide on the final game. IT MUST BE THE DEVELOPER NOT ME!
He directed Kirby Super Star which is my favorite game ever so he can get all the awards.
@Noid only joke here is you throwing a tantrum over someone that doesn't even know you exist. 🥱
I understand and agree he's overhyped by some fans but you're crossing the line LMAO
@HotGoomba NASB was made on the tightest scheduele and worst brand mandates imaginable and that game's miles ahead from SSBU from a design standpoint - what's Smash's excuse for the input lag and overpowered nature of projectiles?
Also that first portion is utterly nonsensical - what are "options just in case anyone has a preference"?
@RubyCarbuncle "Have you ever made a game?" is a falacy, end of. Other quotes he's said that come to mind are "If Smash was aimed at competitive players it'd have no future" and "Clone haters are just children" Even as someone who loves clone fighters and doesn't play games at advanced levels, those are LOW blows.
I'm glad for Sakurai, MH Rise, Metroid Dread, Hades and Buddy Mission BOND, especially the last one. Dunno how the overall reception of BMB was but seems it did good enough to get this kind of recognition.
Not holding my breath for a localized version because I don't want to be letdown if it never happens but you never know. It would sure be nice to get my hands on BMB as I love spending time on a nice adventure game.
@Noid So, first, I think you mean to say "fallacy" and not "falacy". Additionally, I think Nick All Star Brawl is good, but it definitely has problems and there are reasons people haven't really talked about it after release. For example, almost everyone has an up tilt that looks similar and the lack of defensive options not only makes a lot of characters, such as grapplers, nonviable, but I feel it overall makes the game less exciting. And not to be rude, but the fact that the main two points you name as problems in SSBU are "overpowered projectiles" and "input lag" really comes across as someone who is upset losing online. It's not even necessarily wrong to feel upset; you would just need to learn these matchups better because certain character archetypes inherently have strong suits that others don't. For example, Samus can keep away with strong projectiles in neutral, but if a character like Captain Falcon can get in, he can easily deal a lot of damage and pressure. I also don't remember any direct quote saying "clone haters are just children".
Sakurai deserves Nintendo's CEO job... honestly who is CEO now didn't do anything for gamers ...only for shareholders
The guy absolutely deserves it. He's a legend at this point.
Oh don't worry, he knows it.
@Noid Lol. Smash Ultimate is the best selling fighter ever, one of the biggest crossovers in gaming, is one of the most celebrated games ever and has kickstarted a recent trend of Smash clones.
@Noid I find the guy annoying, but his game creation skills are on point and you can't really argue that. I call trolling.
He deserves it even mainly to have added Sora (Kingdom Hearts) in Smash Bros.
@Noid Bosses in maps (i.e. Mega Man's stage), Battlefield, items, the whole shabang.
Also what the hell is an NASB
Edit: nvm some other people answered that one. Thanks guys.
I want him to be the next Nintendo president
@HotGoomba NASB is Nick All-Star Brawl
Even after all these years he kept the spirit to make Smash Ultimate feels like an arcade game from the 90's he loved. He's a guardian of the golden era of gaming.
@BloodNinja he seems more like a bitter smash fan if anything. KIU is superb
@HotGoomba
Nickelodeon all star brawl............... he is really saying that is better than smash ultimate. I am not even a big smash fan but that is ludicrous.
@blindsquarel @Kirbo100 Oh thanks, that makes sense. Thanks.
I mean, @Noid, Nickelodeon All Stars Brawl a decent game, and a great game for kids or people nostalgic or on a budget, but it really doesn't compete with Smash Bros in terms of overall content (story mode, tourney, classic mode, squad strike, special smash). And you can't hate or disregard a game director/developer just because a game didn't live up to your expectations.
Dude made the first game I ever played in life, and still love to this day (Yes I know he didn't make brawl itself, but he made the series I mean), so in my eyes, its well, well, deserved!
@Noid Dude what are you even talking about at this point? NIck all star brawl? Like I'm not saying its a bad or nothing but that game has problems, you have an opinion thats fine but your here saying its somehow a better game, when nick had that game made as a crashgrab and nothing more, thank god it had a good dev team by it or else it would have sucked, but smash has all the mechanics, ad the passion.
You talk about OP projectiles But your not going to talk about how busted cat dog, danny phantom, or toph are? For crying out loud danny is still busted and it took them forever to patch toph.
And wile SSBU has its problems, OP projectiles, im sorry, just isn't one of them, you just need to learn how to avoid them, and counter them, and I play SSBU online with a switch lite! And never had that input lag you speak of. (Not trying to be rude)
I also never heard the dude say those things you speak of, so idk where you heard that.
MH Rise deserves GOTY too! I'm not a MH person, but the movement looks so impressive. If something like the wirebug can make it into other games like BOTW 2, that would be revolutionary
Good more awards for Monster Hunter Rise
Very well deserved for Sakurai, MH Rise and Dread(for winning Best action adventure).
Horse waifu game and Gold Ship making their presence known in Japan. Gold Ship won two awards alone
Good, a very well deserved award
Masahiro Sakurai deserved his award after amazing work on Super Smash Bros Ultimate, now enjoy you well deserved rest.
Good for him. Side note, I always thot Soras face looked weird, so avoided the kingdom hearts games. Plus was weirdly too Disney for me. A bit overwhelming. Never really cared for keyblades. Also never truly owned a PlayStation long enough to try them further.
Good for him. Hope gets more
@Travisemo007 the way square treated the kindom hearts games especially the first 2 in cloud form was extremely bad reason why sora shouldnt be in smash cause of it.
@boxyguy Indeed!

A job well done and a well deserved award.
I'm gonna say that I don't like Smash Bros. Ultimate as much as Smash Bros. for Wii U, gameplay-wise. But I'm not gonna diss the hard work he or the developers have done just because I consider Ultimate somewhat inferior to what I was used to in for Wii U.
It's not easy to please Nintendo and its partner companies, SEGA and ATLUS, Capcom (apparently both the Japanese and American divisions), Konami, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, PlatinumGames, Microsoft and Mojang, SNK, Disney and any other third-party with minor representation at the same time.
@PtM Nodody seem to doubt about Miyamoto and he was once a dentist assistance too
Congratulations Mr. Sakurai, you've earned it.
@PtM No he is not, he is director and was general manager, and Sakurai is no dentist assistance just saying.
How about CEO Iwata, widely respected, and once 100% dentist assistance according to your grading. He laid the foundations for Switch, not the current CEO.
Surprised MH Ride won as much...played a couple hours of the free trial and was bored to tears of how tedious it is. The last one I played was on the Wii and enjoyed it quite a bit. But it's just get mission, run to point A, spam attack and dodge some, run to point B, repeat until over....then repeat it all again..and again...and again..I know that's how they all are but best action game OVER Hades? Come on now. Hades is a complete masterpiece while MHR is just more of the exact same.
I'm sure it gets better later on but don't have the patience to do the exact same thing for 20 hours to get to anything enjoyable. At least it looked okay and ran smooth.
