The Pokémon-like monster-catching game Coromon was meant to be arriving on the Nintendo Switch this week, but it seems a last-minute delay will postpone the release of the game on this platform.
In an update on social media, the development team explained how they had encountered some "unexpected" online and cross-platform multiplayer issues in the Switch version of the game. The Steam release will still go ahead on March 31st.
Here's the message in full:
Hey everyone! This is definitely not an announcement we ever wanted to make but we want to be as transparent and honest as possible with you all. While working on our Nintendo Switch port of Coromon, we ran into some unexpected snags when it comes to online features and cross platform multiplayer. We want to make sure that the experience we bring to you all on Switch is going to be the best that it can be, and in order to do this, we have to delay the Switch launch. We're hopeful that this delay won't be too terribly long, as we know that you all are very excited to play Coromon on the go and against your friends/other researchers.
With all of that being said, we will still be launching on Steam this Thursday, March 31! The Steam build will include multiplayer and cross platform saves. Your saves from the Steam demo will also be able to be transferred over to the full version of the game. Once we do launch on Switch you will also be able to play cross platform. We can't wait to bring Coromon to Nintendo Switch, so we are working around the clock to get it there and will update you all once we have a new release date.
Thank you all for your support and patience with us. Shine bright! Jochem and Marcel, the TRAGsoft team"
As noted, the team will share another update once there's a new release date and is hopeful the delay won't be too long. Will you still be taking a look at Coromon when it eventually arrives on the Nintendo Switch? Tell us down in the comments.

Well at least Steam got it before Switch this time. It's too bad not everyone own a Steam Deck. Now if only this game is Steam Deck compatible.
Hopefully it's not too long of a wait. I really enjoyed what I played of the demo a couple months ago
Completely forgot about this game's existence tbh. With so many other games to play isn't it a wonder. I'll likely pick this up during a Steam Sale or something.
I was waiting to buy Kirby, because I was going to check this out, but I guess I just have to buy Kirby now.
@Specter_of-the_OLED is that an issue for non 3d games?
@ancientlii Not really but some games does required testing for game breaking bugs or glitches first before they are verified as playable on the device. The Steam OS on Steam Deck is running on a customized version of Linux so if the game was not created with that version in mind it could cause some issue. Since it's not a triple a game though the verification process may not take that long so that's a good thing.
Well yeah Nintendo's online services are like 10 years behind everyone else's, I'm amazed any of it works for anything besides waiting 2 minutes to load the "news" articles so the annoying announcement dots go away.
@SteamEngenius Don't cry too much, dear.
Its ok for pc users with pokemon cravings...Dont see the point to get this on Switch with so many great Pokemon games
@dimi it’ll be cheaper namely. 20 bucks I think is what they said it was going to be, so it’ll be a hefty chunk less than Pokemon games on the switch.
@Moonsorrow999
Thats not exactly crying.
Venting maybe, whether its justified depends on who you ask but i cant really see how it would be considered crying.
in the end though its nice to see devs willing to delay switch ports of games rather than having them launch with issues.
I was kinda looking forward to this, as well as Temtem years ago, because I like playing these games to directly compare them to Pokemon. MHS2 was probably the bet runner up I experienced, being hindered mostly by the travesal abilities, essentially their answer to HMs. I started Coromon on my phone a few months ago, but I dropped it immediately after hearing about a Switch port. Now I have to wait even longer, I guess.
I was really looking forward to playing this in two days.
@dimi What "great Pokemon games"? I was looking forward to buying this day one cuz all the Pokemon options stink. Every Pokemon game on Switch, I borrowed from someone else and none of them have been worth their price tag or play time when there are so many other better monster collectors on Switch like Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition, Shin Megami Tensei 5 or Monster Hunter Stories 2. I had more reasons to go back to my copy of Yo-Kai Watch 3 on my 3DS than I did to play more of my used copy of Pokemon Shield. That said, I'm more confident Coromon will certainly be worth the wait.
