Think you can clear up space for another racing game on the Switch? If so, then you might be interested in checking out Disney Speedstorm - a new free-to-play racer "coming soon" to Nintendo's hybrid system and multiple other platforms.
It will feature a "legendary roster" of characters and tracks inspired by both the Disney and Pixar universe, and in the lead up to the game's release developer Gameloft has been revealing the playable characters. The latest reveal is Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean.
When Speedstorm arrives on the Switch, it'll include new seasons and content to keep the experience fresh. There'll also be cross-platform support, split-screen and online multiplayer modes. Developer Gameloft is also known for its work on Asphalt 9: Legends.
Will you be checking out this latest kart racer when it is released? Leave a comment down below.

Free 2 Play games ?
Sorry, no thanks.
I'm sure this will get everyone hyped and playing. Good job Disney, always know exactly what gamers want. Never missed once
If you didn’t tell me that was Ms. Swann, I would have never guessed it was her in a million years based off of that render
Nice lol. Tho still looks a tad slow.. needs to be faster.
I would have never known it was her tbh lol.
I was worried about this game, till I heard about the devs, I have more hope in it, but not much.
Yuck!
The Asphalt 9 model of F2P was ok for me personally. I bought the base game and then dipped in and out playmwise. I looked for discounts on some dlc but never bothered.
Problem here is Disney have a plethora of characters & thened tracks that people will want and I'd argue there is more of a collect-a-thon aspect here unfortunately.
Also, though with regard to Asphalt the F2P is ok for me, NL reported that they used every F2P trick in the book for that game. Doesn't bode well here.
F2P
Gameloft
Disney
Say no more.
I'm probably one of the few people who's actually kinda looking forward to this game. Will at least give it a shot, since it's free. Love me some kart racers, but I won't be spending a penny on it nor will I grind to unlock emotes or whatever dumb thing they do. I think I'll still be able to enjoy it for what it is as long as the gameplay is decent. Between this and Chocobo Racing, CTR--for as fun as it is--sure set a bad precedent for microtransactions in kart racers. One of the LAST genres I would have expected this to happen to.
Also, I agree with @Platinum-Bucket, she's completely unrecognizable. I can only imagine they drastically changed her appearance to avoid paying royalties to the actress, but at that point, why put her in the game? You could tell me that's any blond female celebrity and I would believe you. Frankly, all the character models look pretty bad. The tracks look cool, though, even if not very Disney-esque.
I know I'm dogpiling on a game I said I was looking forward to, but I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to this genre, lol. Give me a Mario Kart clone that's mechanically competent but features Peppa Pig, Strawberry Shortcake, Nyan Cat, Bob the Builder, and the cast of Mr. Meaty and I would probably still buy it.
Nope this is going nowhere
Why are they going down this visual route with it?
Why have the Disney license and then make it unDisney?
Imagine driving around Wonderland, Pride Rock, or Agrabah;
The concept of a racing game set in Disney worlds doesn't need any more done to it.
Nah, I am good thanks
@Not_Soos Nah man, I totally understand you, I tend to trash on something sometimes and then act like I didn't just sound like I hated it LOL.
Really don't like this "Disney but badass" style they've gone with. I'd be much more interested if they'd kept the characters as their cute and colourful selves like Mario Kart does.
Plus I'd have been far more likely to be able to tell that was Elizabeth Swann. As it is her face doesn't look like the actor (I assume licensing) and she's got a completely new costume. So she just looks like a random woman? At least they're adding diversity I guess.
Looks better than Chocobo GP at least. Game just felt wonky to play, let alone it's horrible greed and it lying about any real f2p.
It looks like a confused mash-up of Mario Kart meets Need For Speed, and emulates the best of neither. A real fusion confusion (to borrow a Gordon Ramsay-ism).
The fact that it’s F2P garbage, especially after the Chocobo fiasco, makes this an easy skip.
Elizabeth Swann was very much a, shall we say, meaningful character for a lot of women and fems (myself included). So the game doesn't look great, but this inclusion is nice!
Pretty sure that's just "generic blonde woman" actually.
I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again. The decision to have unthemed karts and everyone in similar racing outfits is outright poor.
Having Jack Sparrow on a Black Pearl themed Kart and Davy Jones on a Flying Dutchman one would've been cool. This is rubbish.
I really don't understand why Disney don't just make Sugar Rush a real thing. The concept is RIGHT THERE. Guest racers are already part of the concept. Invaders from other video games, check. Characters who canonically live in the same reality as all the Disney Princesses, check. Cute style that can also be badass, check!
This, though? Feeling rather meh. What part of that character is Elizabeth Swann, anyway? Is it the fact that she's sort of blonde? If that's enough, then I, too, am Elizabeth Swann.
@JasmineDragon That's actually such a good idea, I'd love that!
@Platinum-Bucket Same, wasn't Jack Sparrow shown with his regular pirate outfit? Why did they put Elizabeth in a modern driving suit instead?
@Anti-Matter that means microtransactions.
Vehicle and environment designs are a little too bland for me. Track layouts don't exactly look inventive either. Sorry, Big D. :v
@Anti-Matter It is better than paying for a Free to Play Game - like Chocobo.
@JasmineDragon
Not to mention that in Japan, Wreck it Ralph the movie was straight up just named "Sugar Rush", presumably because a cutesy kart racer is a more relatable arcade experience to the Japanese audience than a Donkey Kong / Rampage mash-up.
I kept waiting for that game to arrive while they were busy throwing money out the window on Disney Infinity related products.
that...doesn't even remotely look like her. WTF?
I’ll give it a download
I betcha Square Enix saw this and says yeah that's what we are going to compete with and make a worst version of it except they went to be even more greedier releasing it as a premium game in addition to having free to play features.
more actual F2P games is always a good thing tbh
@JasmineDragon
Here, here! I’ve been banging on the Sugar Rush drum for Years!! Especially ‘now’ that Disney and Nintendo aren’t exactly best friends, what better way to twist the knife than to produce a rival kart racer; imagine if it even skipped the Switch!? Imagine further if it was even half good?! Add in additional DLC Di$ney characters (we don’t race against Bruno...) and famou$ locales (eg. Soul’s ‘purgatory’ would make for an interesting Rainbow Road clone), and you’re guaranteed to move (at least) a million units.!
I am willing to give this game a shot. Looking forward to it
Maybe I’m just stupid, but… I personally haven’t heard of the new character.
Do you guys think they’ll add Kingdom Hearts stuff if they can get the full rights?
Possibly better than ChocoboGp lite, but I would still rather spend my time with Nick all-star brawl.
@Not_Soos Among those games you listed, there's also Mario Kart Tour that turned racing into a microtransaction filled mess. That one at least has the excuse of being a free-to-play mobile game. So does this Disney game. What CTR and Chocobo GP did just doesn't make sense in my head.
Have you played Garfield Kart btw? I don't know much about it, but you said you're quite into any karting game, and I would love to know someone else who has purchased and played it
@UsurperKing You're right, it's definitely more warranted in games you don't already have to pay full retail price for. It's incredibly dumb. And no--I haven't played Garfield Kart. PBG did a video of himself playing it on his secondary channel (it's like a condensed Twitch stream uploaded to YouTube), and he kept saying the controls were incredibly janky, lol. You should probably pass on it, but I'd recommend checking out Peebs' video. He might just be bad and making excuses, lol. He kept ragging on Nick All-Star Brawl when he was playing it because he didn't realize it wasn't a generic, license game cash-grab until like 30 minutes in, haha.
She looks weird. Where is either her pirate outfit or poofy dress?
Im looking forward to this, purely because it is Disney. Agree with the commenters above though, this could be so much more if it were further Disneyfied.
