Nintendo Switch Sports arrives next month and ahead of release, dataminers have been sifting through the game's files to uncover what other sports might be on the way.
If Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, Chambara (Swordplay) and Golf (coming in a free update this Fall) aren't already enough, references to Dodgeball and Basketball have now also been discovered.
Of course, there's no guarantee Nintendo necessarily has plans for either of these sports. If it does though, we guess we'll find out in the near future. Here are the findings, courtesy of Twitter user and dataminer 'Wipeoutjack7' (which was later on verified by fellow dataminer 'ToyConGarageVR').
Nintendo ran a weekend trial of Switch Sports last month, which gave players access to Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara. Unfortunately, nobody was allowed to share their experiences online - including screenshots and footage of the game.
What other sports would you like to see join the Nintendo Switch Sports lineup? What are your first impressions of this game after the Switch Online trial weekend? As always, leave a comment down below.

Bring back the Miis.
Did they data mine the online trial? This is why we can't have nice things...
Q : What other sports would you like to see join the Nintendo Switch Sports lineup?
Me : BOXING ! BOXING ! BOXING ! 🥊
I mean it would be cool if they added it. But for a game that is basically a sequel to Wii sports resort the lineup is kinda disappointing. I mean tennis and badminton are basically the same thing, and volleyball will be very similar to tennis. And then Nintendo literally has golf ready to go but is giving it to us as “ free dlc”. I don’t want golf 3 months after I get the game and have moved on. I want to play it at the start. To be clear I loved the demo and am getting the game, but this is still a major flaw. And the sad thing is it is happening to more and more switch games every year.
@blindsquarel Feeling exactly the same, it appears to be a great game and the demo was a lot of fun, but compared to Wii Sports Resort (which we still play occasionally) it’s very barebones.
Hoping they will support it with lots more ‘free’ DLC in the future!
@blindsquarel I mean it could be worse..like the Chocobo Racing game that's holding Cloud back as day 1 battle pass unlock. Which is pretty slimey.
But welcome to the future of gaming. Pay full price for a half finished product and get the honor of downloading the rest later!
U$9,99 per new sports (DLC)? No, Thanks! AI played the demo and its a "Kinect Sports" but worse. Need much more to be a U$39,90 2010´s (and later) standards.
I'll pick it up after a price drop and when more sports are added.
This could be a small Super Smash Bros reveal replacement. A recurring reveal each direct. This could get a ton of games.
Also; my guess is that this was probably a launch title for Switch 2 (if the pandemic, the chip shortage and therefore the OLED didn’t happen).
@Friendly
Details about Switch OLED model were datamined in early 2020. It was always going to release, pandemic/chip shortage or not.
The idea that every Nintendo product that exists right now was originally supposed to be a launch title for some delayed new-gen hardware is laughable.
But is there 100-pin bowling?
I might just stick with Sonic and Mario at the Olympics until they add more content.
No boxing?
This makes me want to punch something...OH WAIT I CAN'T.
@ArmenianJedi13 Miis are in the game already, they're just deemphasized.
I would love to see basketball return, but I mainly just want boxing back
I fully expect this game to get free DLC, as the content is disappointingly light. Granted, this is Nintendo, and for every Mario Golf Super Rush we get a Super Mario Party. Nintendo should really be more transparent about their future plans for supporting a game. It's a gross way to make people not complain at launch about missing features by making them think they're coming later down the pipeline despite making no such promises. It's easy to say, "Nintendo never promised you anything, so get over it!" but they've set the precedent of releasing half-finished games they build upon later, so people will naturally have those expectations.
What really confuses me, though, is that they apparently didn't find Baseball in the datamine? You can literally see a baseball field on the right side of the map that seemingly isn't tied to any of the currently announced sports.
@westman98 not every nintendo product.
But nintendo switch sports and breath of the wild 2 probably.
Also; you know the ‘leak’ that actually revealed the switch pro? That was Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-08-25/nintendo-plans-upgraded-switch-console-and-major-games-for-2021
And they were right about most of it, except the ‘pro’ 4k stuff and DLSS upgrade. Well, that has been revealed in the documents obtained via hacking from nVidia last Tuesday too.
I think we would have had a switch pro last autumn if the pandemic and chip shortage didn’t happen.
I'm not so surprised about basketball, but DODGEBALL!??? That's the perfect opportunity for some very crazy multiplayer games!
Hopefully they'll add them as free DLCs in the near future!
Within one year it should be a must have game.
I really don't understand the complaints about some sports added later. I mean, they will add them for free. It's clear that if Golf won't be at launch, it's because is not ready yet. Then why didn't they waited till they have all sports ready? I don't know, but meanwhile we can play with the 6 already in, so why should I wait autumn to play tennis, chambara, bowling and the others just to play golf too, considering they'll add the others for free?
I’m interested in the game, but hate the fact these additional sports won’t be on the cart. I’ll probably hold out for a revision when it’s complete.
Im sure ill enjoy the game but time getting tired of nintenedos online focused games getting "free dlc" to hide the fact they're not done.
Also why are people still complaining about the miis? they're in the game, who cares they're not in the promo art. Anyone who cares about miis are older fans that already know they're in the game
@Friendly
No, details about the Switch OLED model (codenamed Aula) were datamined from the Switch firmware in early 2020. The datamine nailed everything about the OLED model, from the OLED screen to the lack of any hardware spec increase.
This has nothing to do with Switch Pro. Switch OLED model was always going to release.
@westman98 that leak happened in 2021 though. Pandemic and chip shortage were already happening and Animal Crossing gave the switch already a massive unforeseen boost.
@Not_Soos Actually have looked at it a few times, and I don't think it is a baseball field anymore.. I think it is the clubhouse for Golf. It looks suspiciousy like the clubhouse from Everybody's golf on the PS4, with all those little lanes to ride your golf carts on..
It just needs boxing and for them to actually let you control your character in tennis. Both of those things would be huge improvements.
@Rykdrew $60 is the new $39
No, not Dodgeball. I am getting traumatic flashbacks to secondary school 😨 😂
@blindsquarel unfortunately it's a really good way to stay in the industry news and to keep your product relevant. But on the plus side it can alleviate pressure on devs allowing more polish and QA time.
I don't disagree though. I've often moved on by the time new content comes out and sometimes it can feel a chore to return, even for content I've been waiting for.
@Friendly
No? Aula was datamined in early 2020. Switch Pro rumors started appearing in 2021.
A lot of people questioned whether Aula was referring to an actual future product or just some test hardware that Nintendo engineers were experimenting with, but once the OLED model was unveiled, it was pretty clear that Aula = OLED model.
Also, I have a hard time believing Switch Sports was ever going to be a launch title for any new next-gen Switch. This isn't the Wii era anymore when motion controls was a massive system-selling concept.
If you just wanted some names of sports then you should have asked me you didn't need to datamine the guesses.
@SilverM I buy physical so prefer to buy a properly finished game rather than having to download later. "Free DLC" is just an excuse to release an unfinished game. I haven't bought Mario Golf: Super Rush for this reason, but I probably will buy Switch Sports anyway. :-/
I still play my original SNES and N64 30 and 25 years later - is that going to be possible in 10 years with the Switch? I'll lose the extra download content if/when my Switch fails.
@AlexHarford well, yeah, that IS a valid reason.
Both of those sports would be neat. I miss some of the other games they had for Resort like island flyover.
@SilverM
I agree. We get to play the game sooner and as long as what they release is polished and ready for release day I do not see a problem. I think people just want to complain.
I wish they would just delay the game and release it as a finished product. As @AlexHarford said, the future isn't looking too good right now for replayability.
@ArmenianJedi13 my Mii is still on my Switch, thank you.
@Friendly @westman98 thanks to the Nvidia leak, I think we know what the cancelled "Switch Pro" looks like. Either it's going to be the Switch 2 or there will be something newer, we'll have to see. Either way, the rumors and speculation is Nintendo ditched the "Pro" model and are going all into the next gen Switch (or whatever it's called). They'll probably announce it in 2023.
I want Ping pong
@progx
I don't know if Nintendo ever "ditched" a Pro model, but the idea that the OLED model was originally supposed to be a Pro model is not based in reality. Details about the OLED model were datamined from the Switch firmware back in early 2020 - the OLED model was always going to release as it is right now (OLED screen, no hardware spec upgrades).
@westman98 again, it was a rumor. The OLED was always supposed to come out. I think it was going to replace the original Switch, then there was an upgraded or "Pro" model to be offered alongside.
When Nintendo released the Switch Lite, it updated the original Switch as well with a better battery. The OLED was released in that two-year window Nintendo has kept alive, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a newer Switch announced in 2023.
Since we'll never know if it's true, best guess Nintendo wanted people to just go into a store and buy a Switch during this time. You still can't find a PS5 or Xbox Series X in the wild.
Oh man, the 3-point games on Wii Sports Resort were a favorite of me and my friends. If they bring it back that would be amazing!
@progx my thoughts exactly based on all the rumors, reports and speculations of the last few years
Table Tennis
Archery
Air Sports
Why not add games to it? I bet they start with Wii Sports Club/Resort as their base for the mechanics of each motion controls sport, and build the new Switch version around that. If that's the case, there are still a lot of sports they've done in the past that they could probably get working pretty easily on the Switch.
Dodgeball and Basketball or not, this game is super fun. I can't wait for the release date. I'm excited to try Volleyball, Football (Soccer), and Golf, but I can also just see myself playing tons of online Tennis. Another brilliant release from Nintendo as long as online multiplayer holds up well (which it did for me when I tried the demo).
I have come to the conclusion that nothing will replace Wii sports resort for me, so I should just play that game instead. This game being $40 is unacceptable for the amount of content on day 1
@ArmenianJedi13 actually you can use your Mii created character in the game. I just bought it and when you customize your character it allows you to choose your Mii instead!
