Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has had some intriguing updates and crossovers to freshen up the experience and keep the game on our radar. These have been slowing down, understandably, but back in October a "special character" collaboration was teased; now it's been revealed.
It's an intriguing crossover, albeit a bit of a headscratcher. Aurora from Ubisoft title Child of Light arrives on 31st March for PC, PlayStation and Xbox; it's worth noting that the update will come to Switch 'at a later date'.
Child of Light was a rather charming Ubisoft game that originally came out on Wii U eShop (from a Nintendo perspective), and has also had a port on Switch. It has a fairytale narrative, utilises what was - at the time - the very impressive UbiArt engine, and makes charming use of rhyme for its storytelling.
In terms of how the crossover will work, players will be able to start a new game with Aurora, and play through with some unique mechanics.
Aurora has lost her way and awoken in a strange, dangerous new land. Armed with the Sword of Matildis and accompanied by the loyal Igniculus, she must find a way to escape. Despite the dire situation, Aurora is not alone. Johannes is on hand to help her increase her power by transmuting items found in chests throughout the game.
In addition to her sword, Aurora begins her adventure with the help of her trusted friend Igniculus and the directional Light Ray skill. Igniculus acts on his own and can temporarily slow down enemies or heal Aurora with a flash of light. The Light Ray uses MP and shines in front of Aurora. Enemies caught in the light lock on will suffer damage.
Throughout her journey, Aurora gains power by defeating enemies and absorbing Shards. The Grade of each ability can be improved by collecting more shards of the same type and, with the help of Johannes, you can level up the Rank.
After defeating certain bosses, she will grow stronger and gain additional abilities as she ages. Each stage of her progression will add to her movement abilities and unlock previously inaccessible parts of the castle.
It's a surprise collaboration, but nevertheless one we're quite intrigued to try. We'll keep watch for the release of the update on Switch.

I really wish 505 Games would release an updated physical release with all the content on cartridge. But they're a trash-tier publisher so it won't happen.
How bizarre, but I guess we'll see how it plays once it gets there?
Also echoing the sentiment that I'd want an updated physical release, but only once the game is fully completed. Not sure what else the roadmap has.
It'd be really nice if the Switch version could incorporate that AMD FidelityFX enhancement.
Wow, that is probably one of the most obscure crossovers I could have imagined. Will be cool to see though
Time will tell if that will motivate me to start a completely new game (I'm not even through with the Miriam playthrough yet), but it's a pretty awesome option regardless.
Never played Bloodstained, but I actually loved the atmosphere of Child Of Light... That game should deserve a sequel with a better combat system, maybe. Still, a beautiful game.
I love this. Great reason for another playthrough.
That might motivated me to play it. I loved Child of Light. Be cool if they did a crossover the other way too.
The more Child of Light the better
I liked both games, so I'm up for another playthrough with Aurora. Pretty cool and unexpected crossover.
Are they still planning on optimizing the Switch version?
@LinktotheFuture I don’t think so.
Switch version was trash from start. In refrained from buying it
@anoyonmus I was able to enjoy it, but some of the load times are annoying and unnecessary.
Oh well...
I actually have child of light on my switch!
Super cool to see, but this is such a weird revival. Ubisoft isn't interested in turning Child of Light into a bigger IP, yet they're having Aurora crossover into another game? Part of me hopes the response to this will lead to CoL 2, but I don't want to get my hopes up.
I wish they would focus on sequel
Love both of these games, awesome 😃
I wanted to like this game so much but just couldn't get into it and i love me some Castlevania, when i finally reach the bad guy and kill him, i just saw a Game Over screen, that was the last i played of it
Absolutely loved Bloodstained. But I want them to work on the sequel, not a cross-over character =P
@EriXz If I'm understanding you correctly, I think you may have done things incorrectly. If you go straight to the bad guy and kill him that's not the real ending — there's actually a lot more game after that encounter.
I love Child of Light. This came out of left field for sure but it sounds interesting.
@Chocobo_Shepherd yes i supposed there is, Iga has done thst before but didnt feel like trying, the game failed to grab my atention
Does she shoot out birds at the enemies?
I enjoyed child of light, it was a beautiful game. And I own Bloodstained.... this is a super weird collab though. But I may try it out.
Okay I actually called it! Aurora and Ignicus were my number one guess back in the comments of the October article.
The cameo is a little out of left field, but I think they’ll be a good fit. I loved Child of Light so I’m glad they’re in there. Maybe once they land on Switch I’ll finally get Bloodstained off of my backlog.
Incidentally, in January I also predicted BOTW2 would drop to March 2023. I’m 2 for 2 this week! Time to pick out some lotto numbers I guess. 😉
Makes you wonder how something like this even comes about…doubt Ubisoft care about seeking promotion for CoL especially at this stage…love of the game from Igarashi/the development team? Weird either way
I loved Child of Light. An excellent game and one that I associate with Ubisoft at their finest. Maybe this is a sign that game has a chance still to live again? One can hope!
@Teksetter
Out of curiosity, what made you even guess this?
@Rosona
I think mostly it was just a lucky guess. 😊
I was trying to think of other mid-size or Inti Creates indie characters they could tie up with.
And maybe back in October there was still talk of a Child of Light sequel? Maybe it was on my mind.
I think it’ll be fun using Aurora in an action-adventure game like this.
