Sony San Diego has unveiled a flashy new gameplay trailer for MLB The Show 22, a series that'll be making its Switch debut this year. As you'd expect the footage is focused on PS5 / Xbox Series X|S versions, but you can get a sense for what the game is all about.
If you're a veteran of the series there isn't a huge amount that's new; as an annual release upgrades to visuals and animations are always very gradual in each entry. The trailer does reveal two new legends that'll be joining the game's online Diamond Dynasty mode, however - Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson and power hitter Ryan Howard.
As previously reported, MLB The Show will pleasingly be fully cross-platform on Switch - you'll be able to transfer your saves and share online progress between systems, and online matches will also support cross-platform play. In terms of the feature-set and the sort of performance we can expect, on Switch it'll unsurprisingly be more in line with the PS4 / Xbox One iteration of the game. We're intrigued to see how it shapes up on Nintendo's system.
At physical retail Switch is just getting a standard edition, but on the eShop there's the Standard version and also the pricey 'Digital Deluxe' equivalent at $99USD, which includes a lot of add-ons for Diamond Dynasty and allows early access to play four days ahead of the 5th April release.
Let us know if you're tempted to pick this up on Switch, or if you're waiting to hear how well the port stacks up before diving in.

I figured we'd see this in the direct but I'm up for some game play footage.
And here I thought this was strictly Switch footage. I guess the jury is still out on how it will look and run on the Switch.
Definitely getting it. Especially since it seems as though the new RBI game was cancelled. Can’t wait for some baseball!
I actually have some good faith this will perform well on Switch. They did a great job with the MLB ports on the Vita back in the day so if I get this years version I thinking I'm leaning towards the Switch version.
I hope NHL does the same towards EA and requests for then to bring that series to the Switch. I don't even care if it's a carbon copy of a predecessor.
I don't think we need to worry about Switch performance unless they somehow botch the port job. I also don't think we'll be receiving a stripped down version. Konami's Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2021 runs nicely, so there's no reason The Show should not. Hopefully it makes an appearance in today's Direct.
Well now both Basketball and baseball's major series are on switch. EA, you have no excuses anymore.
@ModdedInkling agreed, i absolutely love NHL
Didn’t know this was coming to switch! I think it’s the best sports game series out there, and I’m not even that into baseball. Nice one!
@ModdedInkling I’d be very okay with the NHL 94 port with modern rosters, logos, and rules that they did with Xbox and PlayStation as a $5-10 purchase.
With the lockout going on, this may be the only form of MLB happening in April. I'm trying to stay optimistic that this will perform well and play great on Switch, but there's no telling. I'm much less optimistic that Opening Day goes off as scheduled.
Go Twins!
@Stnkygrngo I’d buy it
That's neat, but I'm still waiting for Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball.
Shocked to learn that Randy Johnson wasn't in Diamond Dynasty years ago.
@Stnkygrngo
Of course, low standards are better than no standards!
I’m so starved for a Mario Baseball game that I might actually purchase this. It’s been a while since I’ve played a proper baseball game, and this seems like a fine point to jump in.
As long it runs smooth enough without too many sacrifices that's all that matters, 720p 30fps when handheld shouldn't be too much to ask.
@JakedaArbok Start with Super Mega Baseball 3.
Much more friendly for newcomers.
@SmashTheTV
I completely forgot about those games! That would probably satisfy my thirst for a Mario Baseball game much more than a simulation style.
@SmashTheTV agree. It’s developers are more dedicated to continually improving the game, even years after release. May not have the mlb licensing, but it’s the best baseball game I’ve ever played. Super fun, and not as arcade-y as people may think from its looks. Super true to form baseball game and experience.
The Switch gameplay was shown off in the newest Direct... Hoo boy, is it janky.
Not bad. Looks like The Show 15 graphically. 30fps definitely. Probly gonna wait for a physical sale, but this is pretty awesome.
@ModdedInkling would buy. Not even a huge hocky fan.
