SNK has been bringing a variety of NEOGEO Pocket Color titles to the Switch, and the latest arrival is live now on the eShop in North America and Europe (hat-tip to Nintendo Everything for the spot). SNK VS. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash is available now for $7.99 / €7,99 / £7.19, bringing together what was two separate editions in the original release of 1999.
As the name makes clear back in the day this had a Pokémon-style release of two versions, with each one having some unique decks and cards. In this version you have both versions of the game, four versions if you consider that it has the English and Japanese builds. Each iteration has its own save data, and you can trade and even battle between the two versions (of the same language) in the game.
This card collector / battler was pretty popular among Neo Geo aficionados in its heyday; it would later get a DS version that had a game breaking bug and poor localisation. As the DS version was critically panned, it's rather nice that all these years later we now have the originals together and available on the Switch eShop.
Are you tempted to pick this up?

Just deleted every single other game off my Switch. All irrelevant now
I needed a physical copy of this game yesterday.
Limited Run. Limited Run where are you!?
If you know, you know. What a game!
I’m just waiting for Sonic Pocket Adventure to show up out of nowhere here…
@JonComms would agree with me on that.
I want this on my switch. I think I have it on a handheld with tons of roms on it. I only played a little bit it, but Methinks I’ll be picking this up.
Just wait for the eventual Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol.2 release.
Tempted to pick it up? I'm going to pick it up! Never played this one, but as an SNK fangirl I'm looking forward to it.
This also makes me hopeful for a Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol 2 🤞🏽
That's a nice surprise. I haven't played it before but I've been waiting for it ever since they dropped SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium. I hope we get the second one eventually as well.
I've been playing lot of SNK games recently. The main course being KoF 2002 UM with my friend every weekend. Really excited for KoF XV which comes out next month.
Minute one download… as soon as I get home anyway.
@Poodlestargenerica why would they put the time, funding and effort into translating the second game when the first game is already good to go?
I’ve tried the DS game but it just didn’t feel right compared to the NGPC game.
Be nice if we got the three arcade Capcom vs SNK fighting games. Never played the first one, but I've got 2 on gamecube, and I played SvC Chaos once at a used game shop, they had a cabinet in the back.
@Magician
It's Neo Geo, so surely Pix'n Love Publshing will do their part for an EU region release too?
What was the game breaking bug on the DS version?
Wish I could understand card games, these two look like it would be good games if I understand the rules of play correctly. I believe at some point SNK was gonna released a GBA sequel to SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium called SNK vs. Capcom Advance. Not sure why they cancelled that one, would had been a much better entry than Card Fighters DS.
@Screen At certain point in the second playthrough, you're required to talk to an NPC name Jon and battle him in able to complete the game. Doing so cause the game to crash and corrupt your game file. SNK had to recall all versions of the game and replaced them with fix versions. Since not every player sent their broken versions to SNK, there may still be buggy versions out there. This only applies to the North American versions, every other regional versions doesn't had this bug.
YOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!!!
That’s what I can’t say at work right now. Can barely contain my excitement!
@RupeeClock I wouldn't be opposed to Pix'n Love serving up a physical copy of this. I like them enough to have ordered Windjammers 2 through them instead of LRG.
I'm betting this will show up on a future NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 2 release later down the line, so I'll wait for that. This is probably the best game on the entire NGPC though. SO good!
My fave game on the pocket. Man, so glad this released!
It’s a card game OF COURSE IM GONNA PICK IT!!!
(Sooner or later)
@Lilmonix3 Do you like Capcom? The game includes two versions, with one of them Capcom-themed. It's a great game that I sunk sooooo many hours into in my younger years!

Would be nice if we had the Pokemon Trading Card game on there too.
@Lilmonix3 It's kind of cool to know who the characters you're playing with are, but there's an intensely addictive and very satisfying card game running the whole thing, so you don't have to know the properties to enjoy the game. (There are so many deep cuts, even the fans probably won't recognize a bunch of the cards.)
@Lilmonix3 It’s a good card game even if you don’t know the characters. For context, I never did get into the GBC pokemon card trading game.
Hamekroofipso, you can’t just drop this on us SNK.
Played for an hour or so. It's great. I'm also happy that the SNK starter deck had the Ikari team from the get go. Leona is my favorite KoF character and she ended up being the first character I put on field. I wish I could play online matches with my friend. We used to play Fire Emblem Cipher a lot and we've been playing KoF recently so this would be the next logical step.
Man I always wanted to play this. I had the DS game at one time and I thought it was just ok. I’m really glad to finally play all of these Neo Geo Pocket games.
I remember playing a version of this off the DS. Is this collection actually good or as bad as that one was?
Using my Gold Coins to get this for free right now!!!
No, I'm not. I guess this is going to be the first title of a new Neogeo Pocket Color selection, especially with the first one being called vol. 1.
But this time they should announce their intentions, I'm sure a lot of people who had picked the standalone digital games was pissed when the first collection was announced.
@River3636 Same here. I've got them both among a whole lot of ROMs on the memory card in my RG351P, and I still felt the urge to spend Aus$12 to get them for Switch. I didn't feel anywhere near the same urge for the Zombies and Ghoul Patrol package.
I thought for sure they would be released separately like Nintendo would for Pokemon. I’m very pleased to see they are bundled together.
@ATaco This is the best game in the series. The DS is the worst version.
