Late last year publisher Serenity Forge confirmed that Death's Gambit: Afterlife would be getting a physical release on Switch; the good news is that it's out now, though the package has changed with a sticker sheet replacing an art book in the final offering. It should be available from retailers now, and the publisher also has its own storefront as another option.
If you're an owner of the download version or are just a fan of the game, though, the publisher shared some more good news. 'Ashes of Vados' is a DLC expansion that's due to arrive on Switch this Spring, priced at $7.99USD, seemingly offering some endgame and extra challenging content
Ashes of Vados introduces a brand-new boss encounter with a drastically different heroic boss variant that will conclude the final story thread of Death’s Gambit: Afterlife. In addition, Ashes of Vados will test your mettle with the ultimate platforming challenge level and a new Arena with both boss rush and horde mode. The DLC will also spice up new runs of the game with alternative game modifiers that completely flip the experience on its head, with modes like randomized items, heroic forced and hardcore mode. All of these new challenges come with their own set of rewards, so go out there and conquer Ashes of Vados.
Are you tempted to track down the physical edition, or perhaps expand the game with the DLC in the Spring? Let us know, as always, in the comments.

This, Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth and Assassin's Creed 2 are on my Valentine's Day gift list
Why release a Definitive edition and then announce another DLC, therefore making it not definitive?
Stupid much?
True, still wont stop me buying it, but come on...
@Bunkerneath It's probably only the physical offerings that's definitive, not the actual game. If the actual game is definitive it would had said so on the case but yeah really confusing and stupid at time when it comes to offering like this.
Physical edition will not fix the fact that the game is really bad. Wich is sad as I had high hopes for this game before release.
Fedex brings mine today! Great game! The dude above me has no idea what he/she is talking about.
@Zuljaras Well someone has high Valentine's day standards
@Shambo What do you mean by high standards? I ask for too much?
@Zuljaras I can't judge, if you get it it can't have been too much for someone, more power to you! If you don't, but get one, it's already more expensive gifts than I ever got for Valentine's day more power to you as well!
(in my defense, I've made it a point to specifically do nothing BECAUSE of Valentine's day. Including the act of intentionally avoiding doing things that just come naturally. I just ignore it... And also get ignored, at least in relation to that specific day, which is fine by me.)
I got my physical copy in yesterday. Already took down the Owl King but lost to the next boss I fought. I just don’t like how going into your inventory screen doesn’t pause the game. I’ve died once or twice because of this, and this isn’t even the first game that’s guilty of this. I’m just going to have to get used to pressing the minus button to pause.
@Bunkerneath @Specter_of-the_OLED no game says definitive game, they always say definitive edition. I agree why even have a definitive edition if your releasing a dlc. Definitive editions always come with the dlc’s. Companies have released dlc’s like a year later after a definitive edition but this here is pretty ridiculous.
I was really looking forward to this game. I guess I’ll return my copy I bought and wait for the whole game to be released on a cartridge or a 9.99 or lower sale to happen to justify renting the digital
@abdias noted, I am returning my physical copy just because of the dlc crap. I’m not buying a physical game and having half of it in cartridge. Your review has added to me waiting to buy this. Either a huge discount for less than 10 is for game pass adds it. Tired of buying all these games and then them turning out like crap remakes of others.
Griffin McElroy has been giving Afterlife high praise on The Besties podcast. I pretty much love everything Griffin recommends, so I picked a physical copy up. Excited to play!
@abdias What did you not like about the game? And did you play the Afterlife version (which is supposedly much improved) or the original? I really enjoy Souls like games, so I'm interested in this one. However, it seems like it received a lot of critical appraise but then I've seen a lot of gamers not like it and I'm not sure why.
@sketchturner I played OG version, I believe DLCs and expansions will not fix a dull game with counterintuitive controllers. The game gets old in 5 minutes and nothing there make the player get attached to that world, to keep playing.
If you want a 2D game with brutal combats, Blasphemous is your game, not this one. (I believe Blasphemous is cheaper so, you win twice there)
@abdias Apparently they fixed a ton of things with the Afterlife version. It's not just added content. Controls are more responsive, for example.
