Spiritfarer, the charming cosy game about ferrying spirits to the afterlife, is getting its final update this month — and it's going to be the biggest one. According to the creative director, Nicolas Guérin, the team have "saved the best for last", describing the update as "a lovely curtain call for Spiritfarer as well as a great show of gratitude to the fans."
The Jackie and Daria Update will be the last free content update for the game, introducing a new island to explore, two new Spirits, a new event, and more for you to discover while playing.
By the looks of things, Jackie is a bat, and Daria is a hyena, and both will require your help and friendship to pass on peacefully. Jackie is also Daria's caretaker, and both live (or... afterlive?) in a dilapidated hospital, which you can also restore to its former glory.
"We hope [you] enjoy taking one final voyage with us!" says Guérin. The update will be free to download for the game on December 13th.
How have you been liking Spiritfarer so far? Who's your favourite character? Let us know in the comments!

So excited! I love the music and everything about this game, so it's great to be able to come back to it and have more experiences with it.
I'm still at the very beginning... and still inclined to label it one of Switch's best games already. A bittersweet simulation/actventure that recurrently feels like I'm back in the world of Angel Beats but with seafaring and beastfolk instead of a human high school. And the visuals are pure gold that, if forced to choose, I would take over any 4K raytraced photorealism any day.
Jackie is a bat 🎵 Daria's not a rat 🎵 they both went down to Berlin, joined the ice capades 🎶
I loved the game despite the problems it had.
(biggest of which I felt was underdeveloped characters/stories........which I later found out is filled in by a kickstart backer artbook or something)
But Im in two minds on these indie titles that keep updating.
I wished physical titles dont get released till its complely finished eg no more updates
It not even to do with game preservation as a collector but more, I dont have time to return to games I previously "finished"
Great game that I never finished. Perhaps it is time to go back to it after this update.
This game had huge technical difficulties on PC launch which almost erased my data randomly until days later someone found how to manipulate xbox game pass saves on pc to recover a backup. One character in particular could softlock the game by failing to end an animation properly, and I never did finish one of the characters quest lines because of a bug that halted progession.
And yet... still probably my game of 2020. It was a really emotional and compelling experience. I've been wanting to revisit it with all DLC, and I'm overjoyed that's finally happening 18 months later
Nice! Amazing! Perfect! All these games I have purchased are updating to the best versions they can be before I’ve even booted them up once! Dead cells now spiritfarer what next? Xenoblade 2 random dlc for xeno 3? Or maybe a new dlc for FE3H who knows! How exciting!
@nhSnork - I wouldn't the "best" game out there this year, but it has been the biggest surprise for me.
Liking the fact the gameplay doesn't take an obvious backseat to tell you some somber story. Like, parts of your actions feel more connected to the characters and their involvement of the mechanics themselves. They even make you, the player, feel something for them leaving even if you're not too into the story.
I will forever miss Summer growing my plants for me.
Guess it's about time I got around to playing this. :v
I began playing this game about a month or so ago and I have loved every moment of it. It's a quiet masterpiece and I couldn't be more thrilled for this new update. What an incredible development team and work of art that they have created.
@Pod You will not regret it. It's sublime.
Had this game for some time, have yet to even make it to the title screen. Sounds like another gem collecting dust in my backlog, really great to see the devs supporting the game with free content. Heard alot of good things about this game, hopefully I’ll get around to it sooner than later.
This game is absolutely fantastic! I cannot praise it enough. I bought the digital soon after launch and finished it. Then I purchased the soundtrack and loved it too. When the physical arrived, I bought it, even though I rarely play games twice.
With my dad dying this year, this game, this experience really helped me during this time. But more than that: as a gamer who loves platformers, resource management games and good stories in games, this game has it all.
@Burntbreadman I know exactly what you mean about not returning to games. Though I loved this game (see above post) and would like to check out the DLC., I haven't yet. Months ago I tried to replay BotW, 3 years after finishing it. But after playing it for a while, I set it down. I almost never replay games. I agree with you, unless it is an ongoing game, like Rocket League, updates are usually too late.
