Sonic Frontiers is looking very impressive indeed, and promises to do for the Sonic franchise what Breath of the Wild did for Zelda – namely, reinvigorate it via the wonders of open-world exploration (or "open-zone" as Sega prefers to call it).
However, some people online have called out Sega (light-heartedly, we should add) for seemingly copying an Unreal Engine tech demo from a few years back.
Created by CryZENx, the demo shows Sonic dashing around in long grass – an image that admittedly isn't a million miles away from the footage shown in the Sonic Frontiers trailer.

Despite the uncanny similarity between the two videos (hey, they both feature Sonic and grass!), CryZENx doesn't appear to be working at Sonic Team on the new game, which is expected to launch late next year. Boo.

Looking forward to this, but I bet there is going to be a token physical cartridge with huge download required, or be so cut down on switch it will be unplayable.
But hoping to be proved wrong as I love Sega
Lol, didn't expect to see a Soyboy meme on here 😂
Seriously who really thinks this unreal demo looks better has no plan of art direction or art in general…
I like CryZENx. Great talent
@Blackrosewaifu9000 Well, it does look alarmingly close to Breath of the Wild in terms of world density and level of detail. And Breath of the Wild is struggling a bit when traveling at high speed (for example, the DLC motorbike or glitches used by speedrunners).
Open world games are always a big question marks on Switch in terms of performance. One more reason why I'd rather have a traditional, linear Sonic than Frontier.
What a rip off, how do I know you may ask?

The grass, Yeah, the grass, Complete rip off.
Pretty sure this CryZENx character don't want a job, he's just demonstrating what a next-gen Sonic project would had look like if it was done in Unreal Engine 4. This doesn't mean there will be a Sonic game in Unreal Engine 4 in this quality, it's really up to Sega if they could match or outdo this quality of blandness of the blue hedgehog.
To be expected.
This looks like
Breath of the wild Sonic
And I'm fine with that.
I don’t blame them. It’s the most generic looking bland photo realism look ever and it doesn’t fit sonic in the slightest.
Either Sonic needs to be more detailed (like the film) or they need to slap some sort of arty filter on the landscape because they don't marry together for me.
I recommend not getting this on switch. Unless you want 20fps
@blindsquarel you could not have had a more fitting PFP for that lol
@Funneefox
Yeah I actually realized that as I clicked the post button. Side note, do you know what it is referencing?
