As you might have heard, Capcom's blue bomber Mega Man will be receiving the same Hollywood treatment as Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu in the near future.
According to a story over on Rockman Corner, it's now been been "pretty much" confirmed that Netflix will become the exclusive home of Chernin Entertainment's "live-action" movie adaptation of Mega Man.
"Henry, Rel, and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss maintain an active development slate. Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom's MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and are directing; NEMESIS, based on the Mark Millar comic, produced by Jules Daly and Sue Kroll for Warner Bros.; an adaptation of Edward Abbey's novel THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG, produced by Ed Pressman, which they wrote and are directing; and RUNAWAY, a family adventure comedy based on a true story, screenplay adapted by Brendan O'Brien and produced by Matt Kaplan."
Here's some additional information from the same source:
"Supermarché is the production company behind the movie. It's operated by director-writer duo Henry Joost and Ariel "Rel" Schulman who serve as the film's directors. The Batman's Mattson Tomlin was brought on board in early 2020 to pen the script with Masi Oka attached as lead producer."
If this movie does ever see the light of day, it might still be a while away - as the whole project is still in the very early stages by the sounds of it and hasn't even been filmed yet. The Mega Man series will be turning 35 next year, so maybe we'll hear more about it then. Capcom originally announced the live-action Mega Man movie back in October 2018.
In recent times, Netflix has been all over video game and live-action adaptations. We've seen shows The Witcher and Cowboy Bebop, and even animated series such as Castlevania, Resident Evil and Dragon's Dogma.

There was a decent fan movie some eleven years ago. Very low budget, but cute.
I'm sorry but I cannot see this going well
I am interested in this. Count me in to see it.
Honestly I heard nothing about a Live-Action Mega Man movie before, but Netflix would definitely be the best place to put it. Mega Man is too niche of a franchise to the general public to have wide appeal in theaters, so putting it on Netflix would probably be the best move to ensure success
I'm sure this will be just as well received as Netflix's Cowboy Bebop.
This can't end well.
I hope it's not just Fully Charged but in live-action
@Tasuki thats what im saying. It'd be cursed beyond belief
If you've ever seen a fan in a Mega Man helmet, you understand live action is a terrible way to go in bringing this character to the big screen
Live-action? He’s a humanoid so there shouldn’t be a casting for Rock. It has to be a CG character…or a real robot that isn’t creepy as hell lol
So we're going to get everything Mega Man related except a new Mega Man game? I mean, there's that board game and now a Netflix show but no signs of a new game or even another collection
Live action means Chris Pratt’s out.
And the mediocre video game adaption movie trend continues. Woohoo!
I hope its not a Megaman from the games if true..
Megaman Ruby Spears, okay.
NT Warrior anime, cool
Star Force anime cool
Megaman Fully charge eh.
Netflix went from continuing the golden age of TV to becoming an all you can eat buffet which is now an all you can eat dumpster fire, they have absolutely no quality control all they care about is keeping the buffet stocked,, they even possibly knowingly put out junk to generate headlines and social media attention which they feed into their algorithm to produce junk that grabs even more attention.
"Netflix has become the home of Low budget Video game movie Adaptations."
@Kirbo100
You man two board games:
Mega Man Adventure by Blacklist
and
Mega Man All Stars by Jasco Games
I should be ashamed, but I secretly hope it’s a movie about the American MegaMan from the first game’s cover full of 80’s nostalgia that doesn’t take itself seriously.
First i want to see what they are coocking lol.
But i still hope zelda anime movie or series is still going on for netflix when nintendo canceled it after the leak.
@nukatha
Ah... nostalgia! I remember watching it when it was new and the yellow devil cgi was the funniest thing ever...
Live action? You mean 5% fleshy actors in front of a green screen and/or real-life scenery (almost if not all of which will be heavily manipulated in post anyway) and 95% CGI.
It’s totally disingenuous to refer to these sorts of films as “live action” as so, so little of it is.
A corny low-budget 80s style film (think Super Mario Bros.) in the spirit of the cover art that @Varkster shared above could be hilarious if done right. The Aussie comedy series Danger 5 paid loving homage to the look and feel of cheap European cult films from the 60s and 80s and is brilliantly executed. How cool would a deliberately corny Mega Man film be in that style?
@Varkster good point 😁
With Netflix's track record of "It wasn't meant to be good" adaptations, i'd rather not...
@1ofUs I don’t either but I’m very excited to see it
@Varkster They had better use that as the concept art or I will never watch it.
Thanks for adding quotes to "live action". It'll be as much live action as the lion king remake.
Not a mention of the best video game adaptation ever, Arcane? For shame on you.
@Snatcher See above.
Cg robots with holographic faces that look like their classic designs is the only way I see this integrating well
@Varkster HA HA! was thinking exactly the same thing.
Bring Casshern's live action version to Netflix and call it square.
A 2-hour long cutscene with no gameplay, can't wait. That's pretty much where AAA games are headed anyway.
Everything I’ve read about this sounds like they’re trying to pull a Bomberman act zero with mega man which I want nothing to do with.
No live action please. There’s so many ways any kind of animation would be better.
Netflix animated adaption → could be really good!
Netflix live-action adaptation → it's gonna suck 100% guaranteed.
@SpaceEcho Why are you here if you never played a nintendo game?
I could see an animated Megaman movie being quite awesome, some nice Pixar quality animation, with a killer retro synthwave soundtrack. You could easily retain the colorful, cartoonish world of the games. But live action? I don't know about that. Its potential to be awful is quite high. I'm just picturing some child actors face awkwardly comped onto a cgi megaman body, oof.
@Dafirelive what? I practically only play nintendo games. I'm just saying a video game movie adaptation is basically a $100million+ unplayable cutscene that takes two years to make and, try as I might, I can't get excited. In fact, I think adapting a game into a movie cheapens both forms of media.
Judging that Capcom only decided just now that it would be headed to Netflix right away, despite there being a RE movie in theaters RIGHT NOW...yeah, this ain't gonna be good, and Capcom already knows it. ._.
Personally I want a live-action Mario /Mega Man /teenage mutant ninja turtle /Kirby cross-over. 🧐
@Fighting_Game_Loser
Arguably a character like Iron Man was niche before the movie. Obviously he had a long history in the comics but in terms of mainstream recognition, he was a niche character. And that started one of the biggest franchises ever. I'd say Mega Man is on that level - people might recognise him or know the name but not specifics.
So, it kind of doesn't matter if Mega Man is niche - the right approach to the movie could definitely get people out to see it. Though this one will probably be bad if they are dumping it on Netflix. Hopefully it's just because audience numbrers are still low because of the pandemic and not because the movie will be terrible.
I don't know what I find less appealing, a live-action production based around a CG Mega Man, or a fully live-action version with someone like Brad Pitt or The Rock as Mega Man, though the second idea sounds funny at least.
First they butcher Cowboy Bebop and now they announce this.
@nukatha Yeah, the live action MegaMan film came out in 2010: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcLqmH77g_s
given how the most recent megaman cartoon was as well as netflix's track record... i have very little hope of a decent live action adaptation... and that very little bit of hope is aimed at the one piece's live action, not this one.
Oh god no lol....anyways I had a cool dream last night about MegaMan. I dreamed there was a a 3d open world first person view MegaMan Game coming out. In my dream it was on 3ds lol but Switch would be the obvious real life choice. Imo if done well, that could be really cool.
Sounds good, but i hope they don't make it an awful rendition, all in all though this probably just a live action follow up for the American box art for the first Mega Man
@The-Nate Same bro
It would be hilarious if it actually turns out to be worse than the really good live action Mega Man fan movie from years ago.
Why do these guys keep trying to tarnish my childhood memories?
