UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 27th November, revealing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has once again found itself at the top of the table.
Jumping up from a seventh-place finish last week, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was featured in a special Black Friday Switch bundle deal, no doubt explaining the sudden boost in sales. It managed to outsell other holiday season favourites FIFA 22 and Minecraft to get there, the former of which actually sold better on Switch this week than it did on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
After dominating the charts last week, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have now fell down the pecking order. Brilliant Diamond has fallen from first place to sixth, while Shining Pearl has dropped from second spot to eleventh; GamesIndustry.biz notes that if the two titles were treated as a single entry in the charts, they would have landed in third place.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

Mario Kart is a beast!
We are never getting Mario Kart 9.
I wonder about PS5 machines sales in UK during Black Friday.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was still not in Top 10 even with Black Friday event.
It's a good game, no surprise it's remains on top.
@Anti-Matter Scalpers don't need games, they'll make enough on the consoles alone. XD
Mario Kart 8 DX sold a minimum of 87,000 copies last week, likely marking its single biggest week of sales ever (it sold ~60,000 copies during it's launch week back in April 2017).
This indicates massive Black Friday Switch hardware sales via the Mario Kart bundle.
Battlefield has dropped out the chart all together 😱good going for Mario Kart it’s a beast along with the switch.
Once again just like last year, the fact only Switch and Series S are readily available has massively helped the Switch this Black Friday week. It would've been interesting to see what would've changed if anything in the outcome where PS5 was readily available but we probably won't see that until 2023 at the earliest.
@Grandiajet I don't even hurry to get Mario Kart 8, to be honest. To make me itch for an MK9, it would have to do something big, like an open world driving game or at least a story campaign with hub-linked areas akin to Diddy Kong Racing. Anything short of that kinda feels like it might as well be MK8's DLC.
Heck, who knows - maybe the real reason we have no MK9 on our radars IS Nintendo quietly cooking up something expansive and not wanting another piece of Metroid Prime 4 publicity after a potentially self-jinxing announcement in these corona days. Something tells me that the similarly sandboxed Kirby and the Forgotten Land has been in the oven for a good while, too - possibly even way before Star Allies release.
My guess based on what plenty of my friends' kids are getting for Christmas is that a lot of those sales are being made with first Switch purchases, as it's perceived (arguably rightfully) to be the killer app for the Switch and hence getting bought with it for first time users.
@westman98 unreal, thanks for the additional info. I bought it last week too, for my daughter! I’ve now bought it on Wii U, plus the dlc, downloaded it on my Switch and now a physical copy for my daughter’s new Switch.
The BRILLIANT Mario Party Superstars really deserves to sell really well, it is truly a fantastic game.
It has FLAWLESS online match making for full online board games with strangers or friends..and is equally as fun with family crowded around the TV like the originals.
Truly the game fans have been shouting for for years...so let's reward them and buy it!!
@Outerdragon Battlefield fell to #12.
Metroid Dread also had a good climb to #23.
@Outerdragon Battlefield is at #12. Nintendolife should start showing the whole top 40 here when GfK usually publish it a bit after the top 10.
Mario Kart is Nintendo's current top selling franchise, no wonder it's number one.
@BTB20 I agree it’s still not great for battlefield though is it?
5 exclusive titles in the uk top 10 yet again is pretty good going for a country that has been mainly dominated by Microsoft and Sony (and previously sega) with the obvious exception of the wii
@nhSnork I don't mind if it's a new game or some DLC, I just want more Mario Kart. It's been so long since they release new tracks.
@Anti-Matter Guardians of the Galaxy seemed to do good business on the next gen consoles. I picked it up while it was on offer and at the time, Amazon were showing it as their best-seller in games.
Mario Kart 9 is already out but it is a mobile game (Mario Kart Tour). We'll see 10 on Nintendo Switch 2.
Give us DLC!!! Even if they are all the old tracks, just give us something different to play
I can’t wait for the inevitable “Switch Pro” or whatever Nintendo console comes next cuz it’s basically official that we won’t be getting any new Mario Kart content on Switch
@SMUGSLOTH69 What will really happen when/if switch pro comes, Nintendo will slap 4k on Mario kart 8 deluxe and call it a day .
Just like back in at the original launch, Diamond sells far far better than Pearl. :3
@Anti-Matter It's because it's on the "Owned" section hehehe.
Nintendo Switch total Black Friday week UK retail software sales:
> 2017: ???
> 2018: ~264,000
> 2019: ~365,000
> 2020: ~397,000
> 2021: "Almost 500,000"
What a beast, it even beat FIFA 22 on FIFA's territory. If Nintendo releases a new Mario Kart for the Switch, they'll inject the Switch with another 3 years of life, and it'll certainly surpass MK8 Deluxe's sales.

Last week saw the biggest week of Switch hardware sales ever in the UK thanks to the Mario Kart Black Friday bundle.
@arpaktiko They better not
