Update [Mon 21st Feb, 2022 09:45 GMT]: Capcom has stated that it will be sharing news relating to Street Fighter 6 this summer after revealing the first teaser trailer for the game.
We've got Capcom Fighting Collection to tide us over until then, at least.
In related news, Mega Man series producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya has been placed in charge of Street Fighter, too.
Original Story [Wed 24th Nov, 2021 15:00 GMT]: As Capcom winds down its development work on Street Fighter V, it has dropped serious hints that the next game in the series is going to be revealed in 2022. In its latest development update for the fifth game, Capcom concludes with the message "we'll be back with more news about the future of Street Fighter".
Street Fighter V launched in 2016 and has remained a PlayStation console exclusive since then, although it has also been released in arcades and on PC. Capcom has supported the game with regular seasonal updates and DLC characters, with the final character, Luke, arriving on 29th November.
However, during all of this, it is believed that Capcom has been hard at work on the sixth mainline entry in the long-running franchise, which would make a 2022 reveal all the more likely.
"For us, Street Fighter V has been a project of peaks and valleys," says director Takayuki Nakayama. "But thanks to our fans, we've been able to accomplish what we aimed for. We, the development team, will use this experience as a springboard to move on to the next project."
"We look forward to providing you more information next year," adds producer Shuhei Matsumoto.
Of course, the real question is whether or not the game will appear on Microsoft and Nintendo consoles, or if it will be a PlayStation exclusive, as Street Fighter V was. Capcom previously claimed that it made the fifth game a PS4 exclusive because Sony and Capcom have "the same vision for the growth potential in the fighting game space".
However, Street Fighter has a long and proud history on Nintendo systems. The SNES port of Street Fighter II was arguably the game that made the series a domestic smash-hit, and, more recently, Capcom has supported the Switch with titles such as Ultra Street Fighter II and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. Even Street Fighter IV appeared on a Nintendo system, thanks to a 3DS port.
It's highly likely that Capcom will want the next Street Fighter instalment to be a next-gen showcase, though, which might rule out a Switch version.

Short answer: No.
Long Answer: Nooo it won't.
99.9% sure it will not. 25% sure it will not come to xbox either.
How much I'd love to get SF VI on the Switch, I doubt Capcom will release it on Switch, which is sad, because I won't be getting a PS5 anytime soon
According to the leak from a while back they're already planning super and ultra versions down the line so there's no reason to even consider getting the base version
A console with no d-pad and an analog stick that will Shoryuken when you meant to Hadoken?
I wouldnt bet on it.
I wonder if some words was understood in a way different from the intention. But is good news.
I’d settle for a port of the PS3 Street Fighter 4 arcade edition
I would prefer Virtua Fighter or a Soul Calibur game for Switch.
According to the Capcom leak from last year, SFVI is planned for PS5/XBS/PC (Stadia too, I think).
I wasn't a fan of 5. Loved 2, 3 and 4 to bits, though.
Would love SSF4 Arcade Edition on Switch
Give us Soul Calibur collection instead please...
Not a chance. Switch does not even have proper joycons for traditional fighting games, which is a damn shame I cannot play fighting games on the go, and we all know the hardware will simply not handle a next gen street fighter.
Maybe we'll get a unique crossover fighter like Tatsunoko vs Capcom on Wii?
The switch market is too big to ignore and it worked for Monster Hunter.
I'd pick it up for Switch if it came out.
It'll help the game a lot if it'd be a Switch exclusive. We'll see if it comes out or not.
No....it is so far behind the other consoles that it's unreasonable to believe any AAA multiplatform game would come to it, in any other form than a cloud version. Hope we start seeing PS5 and Xbox Series only games that can tap better into the capabilities of those machines.
I'd guess it'll be Sony console exclusive like SFV because Sony owns EVO now.
I'm really doubtful, but it would be a pleasant surprise if it did come out on any current/future Nintendo platforms.
This just sounds like Switch will get a SF4 port again.
Apparently we like 4.
@Grumblevolcano
EVO being partially owned by Sony won't impact Capcom's decisions on which platforms to develop SFVI for.
Calling it early: PS4/PS5 and EGS exclusive.
Doubt this would come to Switch but wouldn't mind a port of the best version of IV. Overall though I think I'd rather have an ultimate port of the Wii U Tekken Tag 2 (throw in the ancient first one too). Even more than that though I would love for them to remaster or whatever Tatsunoko V Capcom for Switch. And put the animated endings back in that were pointlessly removed and replaced for the Western release.
Another game Switch will be losing out on. Really hope the next Nintendo console/Switch iteration is a significant boost in power so third parties will want to put their AAA games on it
@icomma Ultra Street Fighter II was, and so far, the Switch exclusives of Capcom have performed very well. Monster Hunter Rise exceeded the sales of RE VIII.
@Fiyaball Does the fact that the original game (SF1) at first shipped with two pressure-sensitive buttons that had to be replaced with six normal buttons, allow even that game to count for getting an upgraded version?
It's not coming to Switch. Come on. Pay attention to SONY buying EVO.
Don't do this to us NLife. It's borderline trolling.
It won’t come to Switch
So quick. Feels like street fighter 5 just came out the other day. I haven’t given 5 time as much as I have given 4. Too many games.
@Grumblevolcano so Mortal Kombat 12 will be Sony exclusive then? MK11 was in EVO as well when Sony bought them.
Instead of SF 6 we might probably get a SF like a new SF built in mind for Switch like MH Rise.
Maybe. I don’t know if this will happen or not at all
@1UP_MARIO SFV is over five and a half years old. SFIV was seven and a half years old when SFV came out, and this is just a rumor of an announcement of a reveal happening sometime next year.
Of course it won't come to Switch.
Unless it's specifically made for the system, it's not coming to the platform. That's how it's generally been with new Capcom games, exceptions like Mega Man 11 aside which only got a pass because it didn't require as much horsepower.
SF6 won’t be coming to Switch BUT Capcom MIGHT make a new SF built for Switch. The Switch audience is too big for them to ignore at this point. MH Rise exceeded Capcom’s expectations after all so because of that success, they might try for other games next.
I don't think it will come to Switch, but the joycons are not the reason. There are affordable arcade sticks and gamepads available for the people that care about that sort of thing.
Well.if Sony fianced it like they did 5 then yes it will be a PS exclusive.
Even if it did, its not a good fit.
The Joycons are terrible for 2D fighting games, Nintendo's online wouldnt be able to handle online matches, and the graphics are going to be current gen.
Short answer: No
Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Street Fighter 5 was PS4 exclusive, 6 will be either PS5 exclusive or come to XBOX Series and PS5.
After SFV turned out to be as bad as it is, can't say I care anymore. That series peaked with SF3 and the Alpha series.
There is no way that will happen. I would be more than happy if they gave us Ultra Street Fighter IV, though.
Let’s be honest, Street Fighter hasn’t been able to find any gameplay innovation since team battles, so the only reason to make a new game is to use shinier graphics. Not the Switches Forte.
@anoyonmus plenty of companies are ignoring switch despite its user base. You should temper your expectations that games will come to the switch because of how successful it is sales wise.
Ultra Street Fighter 4 on Switch would be awesome. I actually prefer it to 5.
Lmao no
1.Street Fighter is essentially in Sony’s pocket now since SFV
2. Switch didn’t even get Ultra Street Fighter IV
@Bret time goes by so fast. I spent alot of online hours on street fighter 4, super, arcade edition, 2012, ultra, omega.
@anoyonmus Their next 2 years worth of games got leaked lol. (including about 3 different SF6 versions - because y'know, Capcom.)
@GrailUK watch as SF6 gets multiple versions like SF2
@anoyonmus Oh it will. For sure.
@GrailUK So with you saying Sony bought EVO, SF6 will be PS exclusive. So with that logic (sort of) MK12 will be PS exclusive too right?
Because I highly doubt SF6 would be PS exclusive unless Sony funded for the game
@GrailUK watch as Capcom creates ANOTHER version of SF2 for Switch instead (other than Ultra Street Fighter 2)
@anoyonmus I read your comment. I understood it. I never suggested you said that a direct port would be made. But your whole post hinged on this quote “ The Switch audience is too big for them to ignore at this point.” either don’t make statements that may not be true or don’t be so defensive.
@anoyonmus let's not go nuts and apply it to everything. It's not a case of them buying evo SO SF6 is exclusive, more it's in their interest to do it. I'm not naive so as to call it logic and blanket everything with it lol. It's still in games interest to participate in EVO (like MK - third party) for the exposure. But I'm sure Nintendo will be looking at the connitations of the exposure balanced with association etc. Yeah, it's not logic. It's just acumen which is a different animal altogether!
@GrailUK You think Nintendo will participate in EVO? I don't think they will. Then again, I don't know at all
@anoyonmus I wouldn't. But again, I'm not privvy to what they know. So yeah, who knows.
@GrailUK true
MK11 thought me not to touch HD fighters on the switch.
Five isn't that smooth on PS4, it will never come to switch and nor will this one, well unless Nintendo get their finger out and give it some horsepower.
No, Nintendo Gamers will always have only Street Fighter 2🤣🤣🤣
This doesn't even bother me anymore. I quit playing traditional fighters, after Smash 4.
Even Ultra Street Fighter 2 was just filler, for me, until Smash Ultimate launched.
I got tired of this series so wouldn't matter to me whether it came to Switch or not. Street Fighter V was garbage and Street Fighter IV was just more of SFII but with way uglier arts and visuals. If they go the way of what Guilty Gear Strive did I may actually be interested but the series is just too ugly for me to get use to. Also they ruin a lot of my favorite characters so just couldn't return back to it.
It definitely wont come to switch lol
@Nintendo4Sonic We got SFIV as a launch title for 3DS.
of course Street Fighter 6 is not gonna release on Switch, Switch is not powerful enough to run this game and is not fit for fighting games.
@Bret I know and it was technically pretty good, even though, it's the worst version of this game.
Imagine playing a fighting game at 30fps 🤣
No new Tekken, no new Soul Calibur, no new Dead or Alive, No new King of Fighters, no Virtua Fighter, only lucky the new Samurai Shodown and Mortal Kombat, in a “form”, actually made it on the Switch. But unless they pull a “MH Rise” for the Switch, you’re dreaming if you think a new Street Fighter will come to Switch, but Capcom would be completely idiotic to make SFVI a console exclusive again.
Incredible that the 3DS got most of these games and the Switch that’s performing much better than it, has not.
@locky-mavo A majority of those fighting games are dead franchise anyways. Don't see many people playing them compare to BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros. and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Only Tekken and Street Fighter still gets play but at tournaments only.
No D-pad no Street Fighter.
Not a chance. We still haven't gotten SF4 even though it runs great on 3DS (and sold 1 million copies!). Plus, SF5 was PlayStation console exclusive because Sony funded its development. Capcom has said there would be no SF5 without Sony.
Now that Sony owns EVO, it's even less likely to want that event's signature game to be available on other platforms, besides PC.
Not played any newer fighting games in ages but I gotta ask, why the heck is Street Fighter a Playstation exclusive?! That's insane!
I mean it's good that is is on PC too but not being available on a similar powered system (Xbox) makes no sense to me.
Even a port of IV wouldnt go a miss at the moment. Cracking SF game.
@OldManHermit
Yeah, five lacked so much Content compared to IV.
@anoyonmus Street Fighter VI does seem likely to be coming to Switch unless if Sony bought an exclusive deal for it. Capcom had this trends where their even number entry Street Fighter games always gets multiplat whereas their odd number entries doesn't (until the hype died down).
Street Fighter Zero a.k.a. Alpha had games on SNES, PS1, PS2, GBC, GBA, Saturn, Dreamcast, and PSP.
Street Fighter One was only ported to Turbo CD. Modern console didn't had it til the collection, Wii got it only as an emulation.
Street Fighter II was everywhere including SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, GB, GBA, SMS, PS1, PS2, PS3, Switch, etc.
Street Fighter III was only ported to Dreamcast. PS2 and Xbox didn't get it til after the hype.
Street Fighter IV was on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and 3DS.
Street Fighter V was only on PS4. Probably won't get ported
to other platforms until the exclusivity is over or the 35th anniversary happen.
Street Fighter VI is likely a multiplat again like Zero (Alpha), II, and IV. Still that doesn't mean it'll come to Switch but since there's only 3 real consoles on Earth now I'm not sure if Capcom wanted to miss out on the easy Switch money that is unless they count the Amico, PlayDate, and Atari VCS as likely platforms.
Pfft! Yeah right! SFV was only possible because Daddy Sony paid for it.
@anoyonmus
There is the rumored RE game that's being made for Switch first (which will likely be ported to more powerful systems eventually like Revelations was). If that game does end up happening and is successful like MH Rise, I'd love to see Nintendo and Capcom team up for a Switch-focused SF. Maybe SF Alpha?
Nope. Nada. In our dreams, maybe.
I did enjoy SFIV3D though especially the over the shoulder perspective.
Lol @ "Will it come to Switch?"
I mean Street Fighter VI would be nice if they can get it right from jump this time (my faith in fighting games this era has plummeted drastically with the prevalence of barebones releases, then subsequent paid DLC update-fest doled out over the course of years... with no consolidated 'complete version' with all the additions ever offered no matter how long after initial release) and improve the ugly art direction and designs of SF IV & V (maybe go back to detailed HD sprite work animations? pipe dreams I know), but imo that franchise peaked with SF 3rd Strike and prior entries back in Capcom's heyday.
Anyhow, more realistically I'd prefer if our beloved Capcom revived some of their other more neglected IP's on Switch like a new:
... Wun can only hope.
Doubt it and it would depend if it hits last gen consoles, if its PS5/Series/PC only then no chance.
@Pillowpants pretty sure it will release on PS4 also, just like most of the triple A titles thanks to PS5 scalpers.
It won’t come to the current Switch but Nintendo’s next console will likely launch in late 2022 or sometime in 2023; Street Fighter VI will probably launch around the same time. It wouldn’t surprise me to see it as a launch title on a next gen Nintendo console.
@Gamer83 actually according to some information from the leak, Outrage isn’t coming to Switch at all. Only last gen and current gen consoles
@icomma Let's see first when it's announced.
AFAIK, the only way it will be a PlayStation exclusive is if Sony entices Capcom with a lucrative exclusivity deal.
And I seriously doubt Joy Cons are the issue with Street Fighter, considering there are numerous superior alternatives.
@Paraka you mean SF2 not 4? I don't think we got SF4 on Switch
@88NickC if Joy Cons are an issue with SF, then why is Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Ultra Street Fighter 2 on Switch then?
I am saying you are right ofc.
@anoyonmus - No, we got a port on the 3DS before. That's what the "again" is about.
@Paraka I see
@Specter_of-the_OLED it could be next gen that Capcom is aiming for. I don't think we will get a street fighter for switch for a long time
@Bunkerneath dude
WRONG developer
@Specter_of-the_OLED its not coming to Switch. Capcom leak says PC, Xbox, and PS
But WAIT
We are supposedly getting a Pokken Tournament 2 game but nota TEKKEN game?????
@anoyonmus Switch is next-gen, just not spec wise but I don't think Street Fighter VI not coming to Switch is because of the lack of powers as 3DS and GBA already prove you don't need high end powers to run a proper Street Fighter game, the real reason it won't be coming to Switch is cause Street Fighter is not that popular anymore (otherwise it'll be on everything again) and Capcom want the series to cater towards eSports rather than the gimmicky nature of Nintendo's platform. It's also the fact that Ultra Street Fighter II and the collection of the 30th anniversary didn't sell well on Switch, not every Switch owners took control of Ryu and Ken in Smash Ultimate, nobody care about their inclusion in Brawlhalla and Power Rangers, and yeah the series is dwindling. Most people I know nowadays who play fighting games on Switch either plays Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mortal Kombat 11, Samurai Shodown, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear XX, and/or Dragon Ball FighterZ, nobody plays Street Fighter anymore.
@Specter_of-the_OLED true ig
It's still not coming to Switch. Stop it.
Rest assured, it won't be Switch.
Ryu with a beard, need I say more? (Oh and this is so not coming to the switch LMAO)
I like the old look Ryu, but is it coming to switch??? With that look??? No chance.
Lol dont expect this game to come on the switch, id rather have a different streetfighter for switch more in the way like third strike bit with higher quality and fresh gameplay, or in the style of guilty gear.
This streetfighter would be perfect for the steam deck!
Day one! Streetfighter 5 Champion edition was my all time favorite streetfighter game, so yeah, my hype level is over 9000.
I hope that it comes to Xbox!
I just hope it won't be Playstation exclusive this time. So, XBOX and (hopefully, but I'm not holding my breath) Switch.
Fantastic news. Yes.
No D-Pad with Switch so what would be the point. 😮💨
I didn't mean to be negative but I think SF6 will be perfect on PS5. Don't force too much to downgrade the game to match with Nintendo Switch machine infrastructure.
I don't want to see Cloud gaming treatment or Half download treatment ported games again.
@Johnnel current Switch? Not impossible, but unlikely. Next gen Nintendo console? Very much possible.
SF5 was only PS4 exclusive because Capcom didn't have any money at the time, I don't think Capcom has an interest in keeping SF exclusive, this hurts a competitive game like this a lot.
@Anti-Matter I would be completely fine with playing SF6 with MH Rise graphics level or even a bit worse on my Switch, a 100% prefer that over buying it on PS5, even if I had one.
I bought MK11 on PS4 and I barely touched it, because it's not portable ( I don't have a TV in my room right now so that s*cks, my 2017 iMac has no HDMI in unfortunately, fu Apple, although it's a great machine lol).
@FatWormBlowsASparky not everyone is a boomey, I always play fighting games with the analog stick, it's much better than D-Pad, since it's more similar to an arcade stick, the way these games were meant to be played.
SFV is one of the handful of games I play on our PS4. Shame it'll never come to the Switch much like VI won't IMO
@Specter_of-the_OLED lol that could only come from an MK fan.
SF is still popular, it's no MK11 but it sold over 5 million copies. It's still a Top 5 Fighting game in popularity.
And your logic doesn't make much sense, if Capcom was unhappy with the series, which I could see, they probably expected more from SF5 but with all the mistakes they did on launch they should be happy it sold anything more than 1-2 million, anyway if they were unhappy that would be more reason to port it to everything.
@LEGEND_MARIOID still waiting for SFIV on Switch though, it makes zero sense for it not to be on Switch, c'mon it was on the freaking 3DS!
I guess Capcom didn't want people playing IV again and driving attention away from V since especially casual people like it IV.
@RadioHedgeFund hahaha you know you admit that you're just bad at fighting games when you say you can only play it on a D-Pad don't you?
Fighting games were always designed with analog sticks in mind since the beginnings on the arcades.
SF5 took away many of my mains from SF4 and when Dan finally made it, he's not the same fighter.
Couldn't get into 5, but I put so much time into SF4.
@Specter_of-the_OLED fighting games are incredibly performance reliant. If it’s going to play smoothly and accurately, the tech absolutely needs to be up to par. That’s why fighting games routinely skip Nintendo’s hardware. Smash is optimised for the Switch and even then, the online performance is abysmal. As for Street Fighter not being popular, I strongly disagree. Still one of Capcom’s best sellers and a series where two of the five instalments (II and IV) can be credited with single handedly creating a genre-wide renaissance.
@HenHiro Speaking of SFIV as well, that was amongst my most played games on the 3DS as I "picked up and played" it a lot in bursts throughout the console's life. You would think the series is perfect for the Switch. We have had collections and retro touch ups, but still.
@eltomo same. I mainly bought a ps4 for street fighter 5. Put so much hours in street fighter 4 and loved the system mechanics and completing the trials for most of the players, countless hours online. I thought 5 would be the same greatness but just didn’t click
As a fan of the series and as someone who finally managed to get hold of a next gen console, I want this to be designed primarily to take advantage of next gen hardware. If there's a port which manages to squeeze the same gameplay onto the switch minus some of the bells and whistles, great, but I'll be getting this on ps5 (assuming Microsoft haven't bought the rights, which I imagine they would have announced by now if they had).
Give us IV for the Switch.
Street Fighter V is a piece of Crap.
Remember when SF had great music and not bad repellent music?
@RadioHedgeFund That’s why you get a pro controller or whatever. I use a SN-16 Bitdo controller.
@HenHiro
1. The controls in Arcades were just d-pads with a huge stick on them. They have no analog functionality and do not drift, unlike every Joycon ever made.
2. Fighting games are a lot better with a d-pad than an analog stick. Its a lot easier to combo, double taps are fractionally quicker and you can react faster.
I had a lot of fun with SF4 on the PS3 and 3DS back in the day, I tried SF5 but hated for its V-Trigger mechanic as well as having really barebones content until DLC fixed it years later, and now I'm worried SF6 will be more of the same since 5 was a huge success and pretty much dominated the fighting game scene.
A discount knockoff of a Mortal Kombat reveal trailer and a logo that looks like the one of award winning film Space Cop.
"We still dont know what platforms it is coming to"
Well definitely not Switch thats for sure. Its like saying "Boy I wonder if the new World of Warcraft Expansion is coming to Switch herpdyderp"
Oh boy another Street Fighter sequel that probably will never see the light of day for Nintendo. At least we got ten old games coming though.
”We still don't know what platforms it will be coming to”
As if SF6 is coming to the Switch. Just more non-Nintendo related news on NLife.
@locky-mavo ha it won’t come to Switch at all.
Just saying
@Banjo- I will go BALLISTIC if this is PLAYSTATION EXCLUSIVE ONCE AGAIN.
It’s not gonna come to Switch for sure but at least Capcom should release it on Xbox.
Also I am gonna wait to see what platforms this is coming out on.
If it is PlayStation only, then I will get a PS5 DE
If it is PlayStation and Xbox release, then I will get a Xbox Series S.
If for some whatever reason Capcom decides to put it on Switch (it’s not gonna happen), I would still get it on Xbox lol (if it will be on Xbox)!!!
@Bunkerneath it’s not even the same company ! 😂
Capcom games tend to hog space on system anyway so it would be a good thing to not be on Switch
it obvious Street Fighter 6 is gonna release only on PS5 e Xbox Series X/S e PC, don't expect the game on Switch.
It’s not coming to Switch. Modern Street Fighter titles is in bed with Sony. Switch never even got IV.
@anoyonmus Let's hope it's released on Xbox. SFV had a slow start on PS4 and I don't think the exclusivity deal makes sense today considering that Capcom has had a very successful generation and Series X/S is much more popular than the launch Xbox One.
@Banjo- yeah.
Also I think the exclusivity might have hurt SF V but I am not exactly sure.
@Arawn93 3DS got IV iirc
@anoyonmus You are not wrong. It was said that the PS4 exclusivity and the lack of content at launch hurt the game and that the PC version was more popular.
There is noooooooooo way this is coming to Switch. Honestly, my extremely casual self would much rather play a remake of the Alpha games similar to what they did with 2 a few years back.
@Banjo- ha thanks for the clarification.
Now, Capcom release it on Xbox and Playstation and also PC. No exclusivity BS with this plz.
@RadioHedgeFund
1. This comment shows you don't know arcades. Arcades had 8 directions, so it's fundamentally different from D-Pads and from an ergonomics perspective, analog sticks are off course way more similar.
2. This is objectively just not true. The majority of successful SF pros play either stick or arcade controller. Your perspective is only true for conservatives that stick to the D-Pad instead of trying something new, you can have way quicker reactions and fluid movements on a stick. The D-Pad is more precise, sure, if you're ultra casual, this might compensate for how slow you're gonna be.
End Result: you stop yourself from enjoying any fighting game on Switch just because you're a d-pad-slave.
@HenHiro The only pro I’ve seen use an analog stick is JigglyNorris.
Also I don’t use anything but: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hori-Fighting-Commander-Controller-PlayStation/dp/B01GVOFIAA
@anoyonmus the stripped down version? Nobody would want to touch that compared to USFIV
@HenHiro wtf are you talking about? You do realize there are competitive players that do fine and even win tournaments with a D-Pad right? You don’t magically level up if you buy a stick and if you think so then you bought in on the Hori marketing. It’s all preference in the end there is no “slave” mentality. Compared to years ago, fighting games these days like SFV/Strive/etc heavily toned down the execution barrier which makes the “necessity” of getting a stick even less required
@Specter_of-the_OLED You forgot that PSP got Alpha 3.
