You might have played Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch, but have you tried out Tetris Effect: Connected yet? We went as far as saying it might just be the best ever iteration of the classic puzzle game, and to add this - the experience is even better if you're playing on a shiny new Switch OLED model.
If you have already got your hands on it, you'll be pleased to know the latest patch (and first major one for the Switch since the game's arrival on the system) is now available. Version 1.2.5 fixes a number of issues specific to the Switch release.
The official support page also shares some other "known in-game issues" and advises players not to fast forward the Nintendo Switch game clock and then post high scores:
Tetris Effect: Connected - Version 1.2.5 (20th October 2021)
Patch notes V1.2.5:
[SWITCH] Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur when transitioning to the match after both players hit Ready in Ranked Match.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue where OK (A) or Back (B) became unresponsive on the RANKED MATCH / FRIEND MATCH selection screen when Airplane Mode was enabled.
[SWITCH] Fixed a Rankings issue where MASTER (LINES) rankings were not registering/updating records higher than 200 LINES correctly. To fix this we’ve had to reset the MASTER (LINES) rankings with this patch — we deeply apologize to any affected players.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue where controllers other than Player 1’s controller did not rumble in a LOCAL MATCH. (We are still currently investigating rumble-related issues in CONNECTED and CONNECTED VS modes.)
[SWITCH] Improved cracked sound/slower music playback issues in the Journey Mode stage Starfall. (This may still happen when playing extremely quickly. We are continuing to work on improving this.)
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue in CONNECTED and CONNECTED VS modes, where TRIMINOs could be placed in the air in certain cases.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue where the game de-synched if opening a system menu during an online multiplayer match.
[SWITCH] Fixed issues related to a certain secret level unlock code…
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue in single player rankings where some players were mis-ranked or did not display in the rankings when there was another player with the same name.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue where PINs of some locations were misplaced on the Earth in the EFFECT MODES lobby.
[ALL] Fixed an issue where the game softlocked when pressing OK with an incomplete ROOM ID.
[ALL] Fixed an issue where HOLD constantly activates when INITIAL ROTATION / HOLD was set to TYPE B, INITIAL ROTATION set to OFF and INITIAL HOLD set to ON.
[ALL] Other minor adjustments and bug fixes.
Known in-game issues:
[SWITCH] Online matchmaking may fail when resuming from sleep/rest mode. If you encounter this, please reboot the app.
[SWITCH] When putting Nintendo Switch into sleep mode while playing JOURNEY MODE and EFFECT MODES and resuming from sleep, in certain cases your scores will not be registered to the rankings. Although partially improved in this patch, you may still encounter sleep-related issues. We continue to work on further improvements as a high priority.
[PS4/PS5, XB1/XSX] Leaving the game in the multiplayer menu when suspending/putting your system into sleep/rest mode can (if or when your network connection is interrupted at any point) return a network error when trying to access Rankings or matchmaking in Ranked Matches. Please restart the game to fix this.
[SWITCH] In JOURNEY MODE, framerate can drop severely in certain stages (e.g. YIN & YANG) at the very start of the stage. (This will be fixed in the next patch.)
Other:
[SWITCH] Changing Nintendo Switch system clock to a future time and posting scores in online multiplayer and then resetting it back could prevent you from updating the scores in online multiplayer. Please do not change the system clock when playing online multiplayer.

Tetris is now slightly more tetris
I can't imagine all of these bugs were found in just 2 weeks since the game was released. Not to mention the time it takes for the patch cert process from Nintendo. I'm guessing they really wanted to launch the game alongside the OLED even with outstanding problems. Though the only issue I encountered was the frame drops.
Still waiting on Labo VR support.
Does this update fix the frame rate drop when entering fast levels in Journey mode? Entering stages with 11 speed and higher gives a massive lag for a second where several blocks drop with no time to react.
@ReWane Better read the article again.
TL;DR No.
At least I could access the 1984 theme, that was a fix too, right?
@Avoozl yep!
Yes but what about stability?
I love this game
I've decided against this purchase on the switch. I've instead opted for Lumines: Remastered on the switch. I'm saving Tetris: Connected for when I purchase a VR set in the future, whenever the VR technology hits an epoch - I'm guessing it will be the Valve Index 2, which doesn't currently exist yet. Worth waiting for though - I still haven't played Thumper and Rez for the same reason.
Dangerously attractive now!
Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 and 2, Tetris 99 and Tetris Effect.
I think the Switch could use some more Tetris games, please. 😂
The "cracked sound/ slower music playback" sounds like a feature I'd like to be able to turn on. That could be really trippy in a game that is already super trippy.
I've definitely noticed some frame drops and degraded visuals (the Bali ritual stage where all the people are seated and leaning forward and backward made me laugh the first time I saw it. I still like that stage on Switch, it just made me chuckle compared to the Playstation version I've played).
Also, I just want to say I LOVE THIS GAME. It is so good, and I love playing it on my Switch even though I've got the PS4 disc and play it on PS5 sometimes. There's so many good songs and sounds. I love using the OLED kickstand and just drifting and spacing out while a song I've chosen is playing to the Earth in space with the lights of cities across North America glistening in space. I love the graphics and music of the retro multiplayer versus mode. I love joining 2 strangers to beat the computer, especially when both my allies die and I'm able to carry us to victory. I love how the game emotionally evokes the beauty and wonder of Great Nature. It's one of the best games ever made.
I have version 1.0.2 installed and tried to update the game, but it says that the software is up to date. Is version 1.2.5 available in all regions?
@falkyn I recently picked up a Quest 2. Given my IRL Motion sickness issues, I've been putting off VR for a long long (long!) time, but with my current weight gaining issues, and lack of exercise, I figured it might help me a bit.. ...
Seems alright. And it plays games like this, Beat Saber and other stuff well enough for me.
Recommended, and "cheapish" (no more than the price of a Switch, really) but maybe wait a week until Facebook's Connect 2021, first (28th Oct). I'm fairly sure they're about to announce some kind of awesome device that makes my new purchase look like a complete pile of garbage!!
@The_Pixel_King 1.2.5 is the generic version number. 1.0.2 is the Switch version number. When you start the game it should say 1.2.5 on the splash screen. Not sure why they haven’t made them match up.
@mario-from-mario-64 nope. It’s too good a game. And it’s not made by Nintendo. You can get it for free on gamepass though. Not sure how long that’ll last for but you’ll be looking to pay more than £10/month rather than the £7/year I’ll pay for having the full NSO + expansion membership.
@falkyn you’re missing out on the portability though. And not needing to puke after 30 mins (just me?). In fairness I’ve never played Tetris effect in VR.
@Jayenkai I'm convinced vr tech at the moment at best is like where nintendo was with the wii u - it hasn't hit threshold yet to launch its bullseye product like the switch oled is. also, i'd rather support valve than facebook.
@TryToBeHopeful lumines: remastered is a portable puzzle game that plays marvelously on the switch oled just as well it seems. i don't want to purchase tetris: connected twice.
@falkyn I've had Lumines since the first day I got my Switch. I just think portable Tetris Effect is more preferable than VR Tetris Effect
Would be nice if they added a normal Vs. mode where it's just standard Tetris VS rules, you send one fewer lines than you clear to the opponent...
I already had this on PS4, and I love the switch version even more.
