Update: The distribution is now live across the US, Europe and more. Full details for all regions can be found here.
After initially being revealed for South Korea, and then eventually Japan, the distribution of Shiny Zacian and Shiny Zamazenta for Pokémon Sword and Shield has now been confirmed for fans living in the US.
The distribution will be taking place in partnership with GameStop; players can head in-store to grab a free code while supplies last. Here's all the info you need:
- Shiny Zacian: For Pokémon Shield only, 22nd October - 11th November
- Shiny Zamazenta: For Pokémon Sword only, 12th - 26th November
As you can see, the distribution is offering the legendary Pokémon not ordinarily obtainable in each version (usually, Zacian can be found in Sword, while Zamazenta can be found in Shield). Not only will you be getting a Shiny, then, but also a new Pokémon for your Pokédex.
The Pokémon Company has yet to address this announcement itself, so it's still unclear whether the two Pokémon will also be available by other means for those unable to head out to a store. We'll keep an eye out for any further news, as well as any similar distributions for Europe.
Will you be heading to GameStop to track down a new Shiny Pokémon? Let us know in the comments.

Weird that you can’t get both at the same time, but can’t complain about a free shiny legendary
That's pretty nice. I just might go to a gamestop (or two!) to claim these.
Pretty nice that you can get the version-exclusive mascots in each game too.
I hope something like this comes to the UK, I wouldn't mind redeeming these.
Aww gamestop codes? That sucks. People flip those.
@Ryu_Niiyama They do? Last time I went to a gamestop for codes they threw a handful of like five at me.
@Bret that’s my point. GameStop just hands em out and people put them ebay. So they run out quickly.
But what about EUrope ??
No doubt they'll come to Game soon
So I would need to bring my Switch in and show them I have Shield/Sword? Or do the codes only work on their respective game?
I haven’t played Shield since I finished the base dex, but there’s a GameStop on the way home from work so maybe I’ll stop in.
I wonder if this will use the Pokemon Pass app (which has been neglected since the pandemic started) or if they're going back to printed cards.
YES now I don’t have to trade for a zamazenta!😆
Here's hoping this promotion will get to Italy too. I'd love having my own Zacian, it would be a good sendoff to Galar before heading back to Sinnoh.
I Hope we get a chance to have both of this in Brazil somehow.
I do appreciate Legendary giveaways, especially since they’re shiny here, but they do so many giveaways that they just aren’t special anymore.
…I’m still going to get both codes, though, heh.
@Ryu_Niiyama And my point is that they wouldn't be doing that if the cards were scarce.
Very cool, I live 1< mile away from one a Game Stop.
Very weird, Japan is always the 1st country to get Pokemon events. Well almost always.
@Bret ok. Then we are talking at different angles. You got five of em? Great, however that doesn’t change that the codes get flipped and that the stores run out. Not sure what you are looking for me to say here.
@Ryu_Niiyama All I know is they pull out a gigantic stack. I just find it hard to believe that people are willing to pay any significant amount for something they could easily get for free. "Flipping" makes it sound scarce, which they're not.
I really hate Gamestop with a passion, especially because I'm so sick of them paying for various exclusivities, whether it be Pokemon tie-ins or Amiibo's.
Hopefully Game in the UK does this.
Hope EB Games does this in Australia. Would be surprised if they didn't.
I hate these in store events. In the UK, the staff never seem to know about it.
@Peach64 I prefer the mystery gift events myself but I’ll be driving my grown ass into GameStop on Friday on my lunch break getting that shiny Zacian code 😂 that’s all I play for is shiny collecting it’s pretty pathetic 🤷♂️
@Bret I’m going to agree with you on this. The employees usually tell me they have stacks of them left over and end up throwing them out. Same thing with the current Best Buy code give away, the employee reached into a good size box and had no problem handing me four.
These end up being anything but rare so I hope people aren’t paying any significant money for them to scalpers on resale sites.
@Ulysses preach!!! Don’t get me started on the GameStop exclusive Monster Hunter amiibo 😳 😠
