From developers Ravn Studio and Invictus Games, Pinchcliffe Grand Prix will soon be racing onto Nintendo Switch, it's been announced.
The game's based on The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix, a Norwegian stop-motion animation that's thought to be the most widely seen Norwegian film of all time. It retells the story of the 1975 feature-length through the medium of racing and minigames and will be available on Nintendo's platform from 4th November.
You might recall that another game based on the film was actually released for the Nintendo DS back in 2010; this new title is being billed as a spiritual successor to that game.
Also known as Flåklypa Grand Prix, Pinchcliffe Grand Prix is a spiritual successor to the PC and Nintendo DS hit with the same name, which has sold over 380 000 copies in Norway alone. Beautifully recreated in Unreal Engine, it is now making a grand comeback in full 3D to send Theodor, Sonny, Lambert and the other villagers on their iconic adventure.
You'll get a quick look at some of the various activities you can get up to, as well as the game's story mode, in the trailer above. We're sure you'll agree that there really aren't many games on the eShop that look quite like it.
Do you like the look of the game? Think you'll give it a go when it launches next month? Leave us a comment down below.

The music sounds like The Sims 1.
Buying this on day 1.
The Golden Car "Il Tempo Gigante" in this game were built for real, full size in 1975 and uses a 7 Litre, Chevrolet V8 engine with 590 Horsepower and not a Jet Engine like in the movie.
The movie exist remastered on Blu-Ray with DTS-HD 5.1 sound.
The real car in the game/movie vs Koeniggsegg here in a "drag race".

Proper look at the car here. Only one car exist on the planet.
I think some Italian car designer built this car.

@Anti-Matter This game music were made in 1975.
I've never seen this film but I want to now!
That monkey's misdirection is on point!
Certainly different enough from most racers. Will keep an eye on it
@GrailUK Star Wars Pod Racing were actually inspired by the
race in this old movie.
I still haven't watched the movie itself but remain familiar with it through an article I once read in an old Soviet movie magazine (it covered foreign stuff as well) from my mother's school/college stash. That a franchise like this can still get a Switch game in 2021 is a special and unironic kind of awesome.
Hope it gets a physical release in Norway, but will buy it even if its digital only. Its a great movie, and PC/DS game was decent
@Ventilator Oh! Hmm...better try yo catch this film when I can
never heard of the original game OR the movie, but now I want to see both. Thanks nintendolife.
Has a weird Wacky Racers vibe going on.
@GrailUK Yeah. Hopefully it exist in your own language as it should work better than subtitles on Norwegian version.
The main race in the movie is cool even in 2021. Still one of the best racing movies ever made.
@Tobiaku It will get physical release in Norway at Elkjop and probably also Power among other stores, so all the moms can buy it too.
This game will sell tons in Norway, so digital only is not an option.
I'm curious if they also release physical for PC, or if it's Steam only.
Wow Pinchcliffe Grand Prix looks really neat! I'm surprised I never heard of this film here in the US or during my years in Japan. I'd like to check out the film sometime and maybe support the game, too.
I found the original movie by mistake many, many years ago, I of course fell instantly in love with the film. I later found the DS game and played that and had a good time. Now about a year ago I was over joyed to find yet another movie called "Luis and Luca - Mission to the Moon". Though not quite as good as the first movie it was still very fun to watch. I am absolute disbelief that the DS game is getting a successor for the Switch. After watching the video above I cannot wait for it to hit on Nov. 4th. Thanks for sharing this, made my day.
@Teksetter That's because it was not made in the US or in Japan. I do not believe it was ever 100% officially released in the US, though you can buy very expensive regional dvds of it for the US. It is a 1975 film from Norway. There are bits and pieces of it scattered all over You Tube, you might even be lucky enough to find the whole thing on there. It is an extremely fun movie.
@Bearzilla823 There is another one from 2015. "Louis & Luca - The Big Cheese Race"
@Bearzilla823 The Deluxe Blu-Ray version in Gold Cover with a remastered version of the movie in 16:9 and DTS-HD 5.1 sound is region free and can be played worldwide.
English subs on it.
Picture of the release here from year 2013. It's in bargain bin nowaday, so it's cheap to get.

Looks really interesting.
I have no idea what any of this is, or what is going on, but I love it! Pinchcliffe? Bicycles with propellers? Cute bird people? This looks totally awesome!
Never heard of it. But I like it.
@Bearzilla823
Hey thanks for the insight - I can tell you’re really fond of the movie and excited for this game announcement!
I only say surprised I never encountered Pinchcliffe because I’ve worked at Blockbuster in the US and a video retailer in Japan that carried all kinds of obscure foreign films, and cool-looking foreign animation like this stands out for me. It just eluded me I guess.
I’ll have to check it out!
@Ogbert It is the greatest film of all time. I'm not saying it because I'm Norwegian... NO IT'S NOT THE REASON!!
@Teksetter I can promise you that you will enjoy it, especially if you ever watched those old "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" TV specials. lol
@Ventilator Thanks for the news on the Bluray. I was basing what I had posted on what I saw all those years ago when I found the movie (15-20 years ago). I will have to look this up.
@Bearzilla823 No problem. In Norway it's frequently on TV every year, but i don't how it is elsewhere.
