The release of Metroid Dread is fast approaching and it seems it's not just Japan that's getting behind MercurySteam's upcoming Nintendo Switch release.
Over in Mexico - a large billboard has been spotted, and it's got some fans of the famous intergalactic bounty hunter in a state of disbelief. Again, this is the conclusion to the original Metroid saga we're talking about here - not big hitters like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, or Animal Crossing. It's a series some seem to think hasn't been given enough spotlight over the years, so it's fantastic to see these kinds of advertisements popping up.

Perhaps Nintendo is feeling confident after the game's pre-release success - with the title topping the best-selling and pre-order charts just days after it was announced. In addition to banners going up in many different locations around the world, Nintendo has also been promoting Metroid Dread with reports and social media posts. Just this week it dropped a new commerical:
Will you be trying out Metroid Dread when it arrives on October 8th? Let us know in the comments.

Company markets product. What a story!
Have had the special edition preordered since day one. Don't agree with the price for the base edition ultimately but open to being pleasantly surprised. Massive Metroid fan and can't wait to see what the Big N has cooked up for us until Prime 4!!!
Great to see Metroid is getting some recognition, still doesn't feel real
Us Metroid fans have only been waiting for what feels like an eternity, now how about that F Zero franchise you've been sitting on......
Never thought I'd see the day a Metroid game gets such a big ad...period. Nintendo seems really confident in what they have. Gets me all the more excited for this game.
Really looking forward to that first full week of October in general. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania early that week and then Metroid Dread leading off an extended weekend. Not too much longer to wait. This should be the highest selling Metroid game, and I'm expecting it to be an above average Metroid game experience as well.
That's awesome.Nintendo's marketing has vastly improved over the last few years and it has paid off in spades. I have no doubt that Dread will become the franchise's best seller.
So glad that Nintendo are pulling out all the stops for this Metroid! Hopefully this will be the revival that this series sorely needs.
The Dread and the Switch Oled. Have we met? Launchtitle, but not out yet...
@Steel76 I'm guessing the industry and/or gaming population wasn't that significant yet in those days to warrant billboards and such. The average person passing by those ads might not be interested in gaming in general. And let's not forget NoA's terrible marketing strategies pre-Switch era. Stark contrast to Japan where you'll see gaming ads and videos everywhere!
Imagine that, companies promoting things!
@GammaPhonic Yeah, it's a bit odd to list every country where Nintendo decides to advert a game.
@Steel76 I might do now, But I believe the reason it never got the same coverage was because Samus was not as marketable as Mario or Link in comparison to Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. Everyone can see a comparison to those cultural, any age fitting, characters.
For context. Nintendo ads are pretty rare in Mexico. There’s more focus for Xbox. So, seeing an ad or billboard for an “obscure IP” for a Nintendo console here in Mexico says that the company is pretty confident about the game.
That’s why it’s newsworthy
I went on the tube the other day just to see if I could see any Metroid Dread ads. Didn't see any, nor did I get any Streetpass hits. ITS NINTENDOOMED!!!!!!
So much marketing certainly this won’t point towards Adam telling you what everything is and where you should be going every minute of the game so Nintendo can appeal to the widest audience possible which is what they wanna do with what they’re spending on marketing. Looking at this on the surface you’d think with the success of BOTW that a Metroid game with a high level of freedom and no handholding would be a foregone conclusion but this is Nintendo who used the success of BOTW to get people to buy a Skyward Sword port.
@SalvorHardin ???
@SalvorHardin ???
Has there ever been such anticipation for Dread?
@SalvorHardin ???
@SalvorHardin ???
The longer the note the more Dread.
This has to be why we haven't had a Direct yet. I'm convinced we won't see one now until after dread launches.
@SalvorHardin what do you mean?
@GammaPhonic As a fan of the series, heavily promoting a new Metroid game is news. It's very good news.
Nintendo is the only company in the world who can sell a 2D side scroller at AAA full retail price.
@NoTinderLife a good point. The only company doing it better I think is Sony, which sells 1D games at AAA full retail price.
Wasn't the fact that they gave Metroid serious advertising in Japan a big surprise?
Isn't Metroid one of the franchises were the western fanbase is significantly larger? (I know they said that about Kid Icarus, and Punch-Out is DEFINITELY that case. Can still recall the Japanese Smash fans were like "Who is Little Mac?" when he was announced.)
Love seeing an advertisement like this. 10/8 is not far away. Cannot wait to play Dread. Pre-ordered, ready to go on release day
Too bad my city is not that big to have billboards or posters in shopping malls.
The other day my sister sent me a photo of a Mario Golf: Super Rush billboard on a parking lot in a shopping mall. I somewhat expect to see a Metroid Dread billboard there.
Back on December 2020, there were posters advertising the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary in that mall. I haven't been there recently due to covid in that area, though.
That isn’t Nintendo marketing. The store owner is just a huge Metroid fan. 😉
@fafonio Finally, someone else who realizes just how important this is.
Well, Metroid Dread already appeals to me. It's the reason why I decided to play the Metroid II remake, which is my first ever Metroid game.
@NoTinderLife And thus why they won't be getting my money.
Good to see Nintendo taking Metroid so seriously! Hopefully the game is as epic as the publicity campaign.
Oh cool. Its a good looking billboard.
@fafonio I live in Guadalajara, you see Nintendo billboards here regularly
@UglyCasanova @NoTinderLife
I’ve changed my tune on this. BOTW is underpriced at $60.
The Link’s Awakening remake should not be $60. It is a port of a Game Boy game. At least Dread is a new title.
They need to deliver something better than the Samus Returns 3DS reimagining. And they probably will. They have a new story and more screen real estate to work with.
Time will tell (and reviews).
@EriXz From which games? Certainly not from IPs such as Metroid… maybe Mario or Zelda.
Btw, Mexico City.
Saludos 🤟
@Tandy255 Links Awakening is certainly NOT a port. At the very least it’s a remaster, but it’s neither that. It’s a remake. A remaster would be SS, TP or WW.
That looks awesome.
I hope the game is good, and I really hope it sells what us fans hope it does.
@fafonio Mario golf super rush, animal crossing, Mario 3d land an another add for the lite version of the console
@fafonio Call Link’s Awakening whatever you want, it shouldn’t be $60.
