What do you think of when you think about Lord of the Rings' weaselly jewellery hoarder, Gollum? Is it parkour? It's totally parkour, isn't it?
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum recently got a new trailer at E3, but at less than a minute long, and mostly focused on story, it didn't give us much more of a look at the game. This new trailer, although it has a fairly prominent PRE-ALPHA FOOTAGE warning at the top, is looking pretty nice, with environments from Mirkwood, the Mines of Moria, and Mordor. Characters also include The Mouth of Sauron (who is a guy that speaks for Sauron, not actual Sauron's piehole) and Thranduil, King of the Elves of Mirkwood and Legolas' daddy.
And, yes, there's lots of parkour. Gollum will creep, jump, clamber, and climb his way around as he attempts to get back the Ring (you know the one). It's a story that hasn't really been covered in the films — and the game itself is specifically based on the book license — but it covers Gollum's adventures as he traces the Ring's journey from his cave, away with Bilbo, to The Shire, and from there, the events of The Lord of the Rings.
There's still no definitive release date, though. The last we heard was that the game was delayed from 2021 to 2022. It's definitely coming to Switch, though!

they should do a game based off of Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin taking back the shire at the end of the RoTK book!
I really like the realistic art direction on the scenarios with more cartoonish character models
For some reason I did not expect to see this on switch. Kind of excited.
Looks a bit janky, but is pre-alpha footage so ok giving it the benefit of the doubt. Love the idea of an alternate view point of events and am very into stealth games so will have fingers crossed it turns out well.
I actually had no idea this was coming to switch. Seems fitting somehow, a game with a cartoonish art style, focused on the exploits of a supporting character, I'm getting strong Luigi's Mansion vibes.
Hmm, didn't realize a trailer dropped during E3 for this. Seems like I have more catching up to do. I read through the novels for the first time a couple of years ago and have also seen the movies. Very good reading and watching, even if the former takes a bit to get going.
Some of the controls in that footage look a bit too floaty (particularly the jumping), but I’m very much looking forward to this game.
Now this is cool.
Next, Middle Earth GTA?
Does shimmying and climbing really constitute parkour? If you climb fast enough, and run on all fours, are you wall running? Food for thought. Hope we see Smeagle busting out some sweet flips, gapping over Urukhai, diving off Saruman's Tower, etc.
Oh boy, can't wait for a 540p 20fps experience on Switch. The game looks quite promising, though.
FINALLY! After 20 years, out beloved bipolar is getting the love he deserves!
Looks like Styx mixed with an early 00's movie tie-in game.. Hopefully that's due to it being alpha photage..
Loved Styx, but those Monsters Inc. and Harry Potter games.. Not so much..
@Offolsense since we’ve already had Middle Earth Assassins Creed twice now, why not?
Sauron's piehole is majestic as heck!
"Gollum is no traditional hero."
He's not a hero at all. He's a scoundrel.
