Update [Thu 8th Jul, 2021 00:30 BST]: Toymaker Hasbro has now officially confirmed the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly set. Pre-orders are available now for $24.99 and it arrives this August in the US.
Here is what's included along with a description of the customised gameplay: 4 character tokens, 4 Skill cards, 35 Decoration cards, 14 Chance cards, 14 Nook Miles cards, 160 Resource chips, 40 Five-Bell coins, 54 Bell coins, 40 player markers, a numbered die, a Nook's Cranny die, a label sheet, and game rules.
"In this Animal Crossing Edition Monopoly Game, kids and adults can enjoy island life and immerse themselves in the colorful and creative world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. After your first trip around the board, you choose a Skill card with an ability you can use throughout the game. Moving around the board with custom tokens inspired by the video game, you complete island tasks and meet other characters. Instead of buying properties and paying rent, you collect bugs, fish, fossils, and fruit. You can also stop at Nook's Cranny and cash in Bells to buy decorations. These decorations are worth Nook Miles, and the player with the most Nook Miles wins the game"
Original article [Tue 6th Jul, 2021 04:15 BST]: It seems like there's a monopoly game for just about every franchise nowadays, but one theme we haven't seen yet is Animal Crossing. Or so we thought...
Over on the Animal Crossing subreddit, user calysunflower has been posting photos of Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly. If this is the real deal, we must admit, it looks a bit sad - you get four avatars, tokens, and a lot of cardboard. Some villagers would have been nice.
There's no official announcement from Hasbro just yet, but a few online retailers have started to list the product - which suggests we'll be hearing more soon. What do you think of this yourself? Leave a comment down below.
