Kazuya, the latest fighter to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC character, will be available in-game starting from Tuesday 29th June (or from Weds 30th for those in Europe), it's been confirmed.
The news was shared today by series director Masahiro Sakurai, who detailed the new fighter in a new presentation.
Debuting more than 25 years ago in the original TEKKEN game, Kazuya Mishima is one of the most recognizable faces in the storied fighting game series. Kazuya moves from the arenas of TEKKEN, where players must understand the space between characters and focus on where to hit their opponents in a 3D plane, to the battlefields of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where players must attack their foes through 2D heights and distances. Because of this change in gameplay dimensions, Kazuya shows off a special skill set in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when compared to his TEKKEN roots.
The character will arrive alongside the already-announced Version 12.0.0. update, and will be available to buy as part of Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2, or as a standalone fighter. Only one DLC fighter is still to be revealed, meaning we're finally nearing the end of new character additions.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kazuya’s main attacks are similar to his fighting moves in TEKKEN, but to give him the midair jumps, smash attacks and special moves that the Super Smash Bros. series is known for, his Devil’s Power is put to use. In later games in the TEKKEN series, Kazuya can transform into a powerful winged demon. Players will notice Kazuya activating this Devil’s Power for various jumps, smash attacks and special moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The new stage that players will receive in Challenger Pack 10, Mishima Dojo, is the dojo of the Mishima family – specifically Kazuya’s father Heihachi. The dojo is closed off in all directions, but its walls and ceiling can be broken with strong attacks, turning the stage into dangerous terrain. With no floating platforms, the Mishima Dojo stage is more grounded than many other stages in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, requiring new strategies when battling on it.
The Kazuya DLC also gives you 39 music tracks from the Tekken series, containing a mix of songs from earlier and more recent games in the franchise.
Looking forward to playing as Kazuya? Let us know in the comments.

MOONLIT WILDERNESS IS A SONG I CAN SELECT AND PLAY IN SMASH
THIS IS ALL THAT NEEDED TO BE REVEALED
said the 30th in the US stream
looks cool . another great fighter. shantae was a nice surpize as well. okay question did he say that this was it for this year. meaning the last fighter wont be debuted until 2022? did i mis read that? I hope so. hope the last fighter will be a big one like doom guy or crash bandicoot.
@tntswitchfan68 No he said the last fighter was also planned for this year. He just said it would be a while before they would be revealed
@TheFrenchiestFry. ok thanks. i thought that would be a bit silly waiting that long so glad to hear it.
@TheFrenchiestFry @tntswitchfan68
Perhaps the final fighter will be revealed at this year's The Game Awards show (that still hasn't got a date, BTW), just like Joker and Sephiroth were in past years - it would be a proper place for a final, spectacular showcase (I do think that it will be someone big).
Cool. Much better than Steve from Minecraft
Can't wait to blast those songs from Tekken 3-5. And that gold Kazuya suit 🤩
@Mando44646 Also watched US stream and it did not say that
I play SSBU daily, but I’m ready for there to be no more new fighters. I watched this intro just to try and learn how to fight back against more OP DLC.
@Stubborn_Monkey very good point. you maybe right. so i guess we will just have to wait and see. i hope we will go out with a bang!
With so many music and a new stage, I'm always in! A new fighter is a nice bonus! 😉😁
@Mando44646 I saw the 30th too, this must be the Mandela Effect lol Probably a case of 30th in Japan, evening of the 29th in the US.
Ugh, how did Sakurai not put in Tekken 4's "Gym" theme?
It's so good that I'm shocked it's not included.
If they ever made an action RPG with this many selectable characters, and made it side scrolling with interesting level design, I would be all in.
I’ll be back at playing Smash Bros again. Nice list of tracks here.
One more DLC pack to come... but I do think whoever will be announced, will be joined by Waluigi as a punchline to the end of Smash Bros Ultimate's content. So it'll be someone, plus Waluigi. So 83 fighters as a final number... which feels wrong... oh who am I kidding, volume three Nintendo! Get it to 90 as a round number damn it!!!
Sakurai’s humour, insight on gaming history and presentation style never fails to entertain. A character that I wasn’t excited for on the whole from a series I respect but haven’t played much of and he presents Kazuya in a way that makes me legitimately look forward to trying out. Mental that the next character will be the last: what a wild ride and we should all be grateful to the development team for their effort and attention to detail on all of the content in SSBU.
This is high quality DLC.
Man, look at all them bops. Great character, music, and stage.
@YoungLink64 Haha, I didn’t know there was an adventure mode, I’ve never played Smash.
@YoungLink64 there is one more character confirmed after today, who I believe won't come on their own if it's the grand finale. A bit like Piranha Plant was a surprise addition. I think we may see the final DLC member, and then be surprised by Waluigi or something silly like that which doesn't waste a slot of actual DLC. Cause let's face it... Waluigi can't actually bring us anything, he doesn't have music or a stage etc. He's an echo fighter if anything.
@geiseldiesel it absolutely said the 30th on the official Nintendo of America stream
Was it not mentioned some time ago that this DLC fighters pack was not the last? That we would see more after? I swear that was the case.
@Toshiro_Baloney Sakurai has always said this was it for DLC, after Fighter Pass 2 ends
With the amount of work Sakurai puts in adapting each gameplay, i have to admit i would love to see a fromsoftware character in here.
@YoungLink64 I’m more of a Street Fighter 3/Soul Calibur 2 guy!
They should put a tekken game on switch
@YoungLink64 Thanks mate, appreciate the compliment. I’d love to be able to speak to Sakurai personally because he seems like such a fun and interesting guy, who definitely deserves a long break after one of the most ambitious and large games Nintendo has ever put their name to.
@NeonPizza Mortal Kombat is banned in Japan and has been since MK9, so it's never happening.
Besides, Tekken is the better series anyway. MK is known for its gore, Tekken is known for its gameplay.
@YoungLink64 Lol, excellent! Down, down/forward/forward for meeeee
@KirbysAdventure NANI?!
Mortal Kombat is banned in Japan? How interesting.
@YoungLink64 @BloodNinja Yep, Censored Gaming made a video explaining why:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03ewCJrS8XE
People think Japan is an R-rated paradise, but it really isn't. For example every Resident Evil game was heavily censored, and that's a Japanese franchise!
@KirbysAdventure Oh, I’m aware of Japans strange censorship choices! Thanks for the link!
I came from the future, and the final member of the roster won't be fake Luigi, scorpion, sub zero, Rayman, Lara Croft, Doom Slayer nor the Witcher from Rivia. It will be a new character from the prestige Shin Megami tensei franchise (the og pokemon); It shall be Nahobino from SMT V. This is a strategic move from Nintendo to build up sales of mentioned franchise vs Persona IP which is almost exclusive to the PS . Screen shot this, then contact me if I'm not correct.
I think that the final DLC character is guaranteed to be first party...
Everyone knows that there is only one spot left, and the anticipation will be extremely high. I just don't see Nintendo ending this DLC with a character not owned by Nintendo. It would be a terrible business decision/wasted marketing opportunity, imo.
Nice to hear how unique Kazuya will be play in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, can't wait to try him tomorrow in Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi
Stranger things have happened. Looks at DC vs Mortal Kombat. The final smash can be a friendship fatality or babality from the censored SNES games. It definitely will add to the humor of the game.
My guess for the last Smash character is some obscure Nintendo character like Takamaru which will lead to a revival game by Sakurai like he did with Kid Icarus.
Am I the only one who gets Joker (from Batman) with Kazuya's purple suit?
@KirbysAdventure Are the Japanese opposed to blood and gore or something?
I do know that censorship standards have gotten tighter, which is why Dragon Ball Super barely has any blood or graphic scenes while DBZ was full of them.
@Caryslan Late response, but yeah Japan does not tolerate gore as much as the West, yes. Gory depictions of demons and non-humans is tolerated more though, hence why stuff like DMC and Doom aren't nearly as censored.
As for DBS, the reason why is because it's literally made for children - the audience is more broad than DBZ.
