This week sees the return of the 3DS release Miitopia on the Nintendo Switch. If you've already tried out the demo, you should probably have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the journey ahead.
For those that don't, there are updates such as "expanded customisation" and a horse ally that'll lend you a hoof in battle. Alongside the game's arrival on the Switch this week, Nintendo has rolled out not one but two updates for Miitopia - bumping it up to Version 1.0.2. Across both patches, there are a number of fixes.
Here are the full patch notes, courtesy of Nintendo's official support page:
Ver. 1.0.2 (Released May 20, 2021)
General
- Fixed an issue when selecting a Mii character for your party in which Mii characters from save data would disappear under certain conditions.
- Fixed an issue in which Mii characters shared online would occasionally not be accessible to other players.
Ver. 1.0.1 (Released May 20, 2021)
General
- Fixed an issue in which the game would hard lock if Parental Controls were temporarily removed at a particular timing.
- Fixed an issue in which the player would lose their game progress if they opened the HOME Menu and closed the game under certain circumstances.
- If this issue already has already occurred for you, this update will allow you to resume your progress.
- Fixed several other issues to improve the gameplay experience.

...But why? Why two?
MII puns time, do em with Mii if you wana.
Two update's! Thats twice the number and amount of space! oh whoa is Mii!
(I'm not getting this day one sadly I just love the mii maker, but i'm going to wait till after or around E3, as thats when all the good games are Hopefully, MH rise can hold me over sooo. also sorry not sorry LOL)
I remember when games were released finished.
Man, how times have changed
@Nin10dood
True, but I also remember when games were released with bugs which could never be fixed (poor old Space Station Silicon Valley is always cited as the best example of this!).
@Nin10dood I also remember games with having eternal bugs before the internet and you just had to live with them.
@Nin10dood
As others have mentioned there were games that had bugs and glitches that could not be patched out also most games then where a lot simpler, quite a few snes era games that had bugs so a game could not be compltered or you would have too restart from begining and hope you didn't encounter bug again.
Two patches, why merge into one that's just lazy
@jolteon23 @Ooyah Mario Sunshine had loads of bugs. 😬
@Nin10dood it is finished. They just polished bugs, which is customary now that patches are a thing.
@Ooyah What's the issue with Space Station Silicone Valley, is it that it won't work properly with the expansion pak?
And yet Square still can’t be bothered to patch the FF7 port that has game-breaking glitches and bugs dating back 20+ years...
@Emob
There was a collectable object which could not be picked up. 🙁
The one that I always remember is WWF No Mercy. A came that is pretty much considered legendary now, but that shipped its entire first run of cartridges with a game-breaking bug that deleted ALL of your save data. Repeatedly.
My best friend at the time and I had an entire fantasy federation with our own characters, shows and storylines that followed us all the way from the old WCW/NWO games, and to have it repeatedly break on us was nightmarish until THQ got around to sending out replacement cartridges to those that complained about six months later.
The generic CAW1 music from that game still invokes nightmares...
I am very happy for day one updates.
well my copy just arrived and was only one patch that went straight too 1.0.2
Huh, gotta say this is the first time I've seen a game get TWO day one updates.
@suikoden Yes that's how patches work. You get all patches up to the latest one in one go.
@TeeJay
thought it would be, but the article makes it look like it would download two
So they rerelease a 4 year old game and it still is glitchy? This is getting embarassing Nintendo!
I am surprised there hasn’t been an NL review posted yet. Or is it deemed too similar to the 3ds release?
I was fine with Wii U ports but if this just an 'enhanced" version of the 3DS version then I think we've reached peak port.
I hope we get some actual new good games this year.
Im actually playing this day one today and I can't wait to play it right now
Keep in mind. The game is complete as it was 4 years ago, but porting a game to a new system is not guarantee that it will run the same as the original system and new bugs and glitches (that weren't present in the original) might come up.
I agree it would've been better to have it on the cartridge/original download. Though I'm sure future shippings (if any) will have the patch on them.
Side note: The demo was also updated to Version 1.0.1.
Soo what does the horse do? How does it affect gameplay?
Same old same old, more stability. Can't believe one of these updates didn't add folders to the Game Boy and themes to the Super Scope.
Why has not one single news site reviewed this game yet?
My kids were super hyped for this game, played the demo to death and split the cost of the game between them so they could preorder it. They are loving it! I'm not sure if I will get around to playing it ever but I'm glad they're happy.
@Nin10dood As many have said, there are countless broken games that were released previously, never to be fixed. Nintendo has a track record of releasing games that are finished and low on bugs, particularly compared to other companies today. There's nothing wrong with them patching out a bug or two that got by quality control before printing.
@suikoden It was probably two patches, but it doesn't download them one by one. You just download everything and install it simultaneously.
Second update must've been a last-minute fix or a potential patch that would've been sent out after launch if it took them more time to fix it.
Didn't even notice because i was up all night playing...
@Moonlessky It can aid you in battle with attacks (a single target "mounted attack," a "snort" that hits all enemies, and a special "horseplay" attack that changes depending on character class), as well as some additional moves that boost healing while in the safe spot. Your characters can also randomly ride it during level transitions/exploration to speed up those sections.
These extra moves are unlocked by relationship level, in a similar fashion to the rest of your party members.
