Back in March, SNK surprised fans with the digital release of the Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol.1 for Switch.
It contains the following 10 games - SNK Gals' Fighters, Samurai Shodown! 2, King of Fighters R-2, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny, Fatal Fury First Contact, SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium, Metal Slug 1st Mission, Metal Slug 2nd Mission, Dark Arms and Big Tournament Golf / Neo Turf Masters.
If you've been holding out for a physical release, Limited Run Games has now announced a physical version of this ten-in-one collection. Pre-orders will open on 22nd April and are open for a total of four weeks. In addition to a standard copy of the game, there'll also be a collector's edition - which comes with the game, a retrospective book, two-sided poster, steelbook and classic Neo Geo Pocket-style packaging.
It seems physical publisher Pix'n Love Publishing will also be offering a European physical release. Pre-orders open on the same date as the LRG one:
Alternatively, the Asian version of the game will come with English language support and is available for pre-order at Play-Asia now (don't forget to use the discount code NLIFE for 5% off your order).

ooooo.... i'm totally down for this. Glad i havene't bought it digitally yet
Before you jump the gun on placing an order, Pix'N Love Publishing are doing a European distribution of the game, taking pre-orders on the same day of 22nd April.

@RupeeClock Thanks, I've added this to the post.
Actually prefer the European version. I'll need to keep an eye on pricing.
If it's around the same price as the digital release, this might well be my first LRG physical for the Switch.
Oh yeah, I'll be buying that for sure!
I'm on the fence with this. A mere 10 handheld games (arcade style, no less) from decades gone by doesn't seem the best value proposition. I would rather have paid a little more for a more comprehensive collection. It seems wasteful to utilise what I assume will be a 1GB cartridge for only a few megabytes (if that!) worth of ROMs.
However, if Nintendo were to ever issue similar for their Game Boy catalogue, I wouldn't be able to surrender my wallet fast enough.
I have been looking at this collection for soo long in my wishlist. But, can't pull the trigger at it's current price point because it is missing ONE game that would not only round out the balance of the Collection, but would also fill a much needed void on the Switch. Adding this game would be a no-brainer insta-buy for most people. And it would add depth and 'brains' to a collection of mostly fighters. Digital is the way I play though.
Card Fighter's Clash 1 or 2.
Either one would be fine at this point.
Putting the Limited Run Games name in the headline at last, thanks. This way we don't get disappointed when we realize it in the article itself.
Now we just have to wait for a release in other store. Let's hope it happens.
@RupeeClock oh, that’s a new webshop for me. So far I have limitedrungames, superraregames, strictlylimitedgames and now this one.
Are there more producers of physical games as far as you know?
@Friendly There are a few more, unfortunately. It's easy to miss these releases, as many people have found out...
However, the three you mentioned, plus Special Reserve Games, basically get the more desirable games.
@Silly_G - Nintendo can easily hit me up with a Kirby GB Collection for 60 and I would likely shell it out.
@RupeeClock thanks for that link and from what I Gathered they are a French company which is good for me as I will be avoiding import charges.
Thank God. I'm glad I held out.
C'mon, companies may as well just release normal physical copies. It's way less special to do these physical releases for so many games & charge these huge mark-ups from digital to physical. It's ridiculous & unfair to us gamers that this is such a common practice for the Switch
This’ll probably ship in about 12 months time from Limited Run
Im keen to know if there will be a standard UK release from normal retailers. I believe both stores did similarly large releases for the Samurai Shodown collection but there was still a standard release in normal stores
I don’t like Limited Run Games much, their business model does nothing but inflate the prices of these games further down the line. It’s even worse now with today’s scalper culture, games get snapped up in seconds to be resold. With special editions (inclusive of lots of extras) I can understand very limited runs, but not standard cartridge releases. Why don’t they call themselves “indiePhys” or something and do longer print runs. I’d love a copy of the Turok games but I’m not paying £100 on eBay.
Oddly I can't find it on their storefront. Is there a link to it or is it just going to go up next week?
Nice but since this is from Limited Run Games expect long delays until they shipped. The physical games won't shipped unless they got all the cartridges ordered from Nintendo and I mean all of them. They don't shipped yours first, they shipped them altogether as a batch order so even if a physical copy of the game for your order was available they won't ship it and instead put it in their warehouse until they got everyone else orders covered. It's a hard long wait sometimes but patience will get you the game.
@rjc-32 What is wrong with Limited Runs of games?
If you loved a copy of Turok you would have bought it on the one month order window.
I am all in for regular releases but we are NOT getting those often.
And it is NOT scalping if you have a rare item and want to sell it for ridiculous price. It is scalping if you made it impossible for other people to buy it in the first place.
Also they have annual sales with leftovers in their warehouses
@Friendly
JP's Switchmania does weekly posts about upcoming physical releases / pre-orders, and maintains a list of all known limited/indie physical publishers in each post.

There's as many as 40 different sites! There's some overlap though.
@Silly_G of course, you would pay the same price even for a single GB Pokémon game...
Interested in the basic physical but it seriously offends me that LRG's standard model for special editions of these retro games is "One Game, Four Boxes".
A steelbook, yeah, I can definitely use that. It will look great on the shelf.
A faux NG Pocket box? Hmm, way less useful since I don't have a preexisting NG Pocket collection. Where do I even put this? Well, still cool, I guess, and those ten guys who have huge NGP collections (and are still alive, AND gaming) will love this.
Wait, there's also a standard Switch box? WTF for? Who out there is saying yeah, I love steelbooks, but Imma be real mad if I don't also get the bog-standard plastic box with my steelbook?
But wait, there's more! Because obviously all this precious plastic and cardboard and metal has to be encased in something, right? Plastic and metal aren't nearly strong enough to endure the hazards of cross-country shipping, so we need to protect it all with - yes, you guessed it - ANOTHER BOX!!
The worst part is, I suspect this all ships in yet another box made out of standard brown cardboard, to protect the pretty outer box that only really exists to protect the interior boxes.
@JasmineDragon "Wait, there's also a standard Switch box? WTF for? Who out there is saying yeah, I love steelbooks, but Imma be real mad if I don't also get the bog-standard plastic box with my steelbook?"
when it comes to the expensive editions I expect to have the standard box and the steelbook if they are offering a steelbook as a bonus. I don't mind only getting the steelbook if it is the steelbook edition.
I was lucky enough to order the Sega Astro City Mini from LRG. I’m sure that’s gonna take forever to come in. Kinda hate dealing with them.
Hmm nice but I don’t buy fighters physical and this is mostly fighting games. Still cool though.
@JasmineDragon : I get your point, hence why I generally avoid the collector's editions unless they include something worthwhile (as opposed to space-hogging tat that one will only ever gaze upon once or twice).
With that said though, I was quite annoyed that the Smash Ultimate limited edition didn't include a standard case in the box (considering that every other Nintendo-published collector's edition I have ever bought included the standard case as well).
LRG's collector's editions tend to be far too excessive though. I think the Streets of Rage IV box was four bloody boxes in one.
@Whitestrider : As much as it pains me to say, I so would too. 😂 Hell, I bought LRG's Shantae release, and that's a glorified GBC port on a cartridge. I also bought Collection of Mana for the Game Boy game (I'm not terribly interested in the SNES sequels or current gen remakes).
@Paraka : It's bad enough that we missed out on the Kirby collection for the Wii in Australia and Europe. I'm also surprised that it's been a fairly long while now since the last main Kirby instalment.
@Zuljaras Well I have my opinion on them and that’s it
@RupeeClock oh wow. I’ll be checking that list out regularly from now on! Tnx
I already spot a few games I bought digitally that I should have bought physically. Great to now have a smaller chance to miss new releases from now on.
I wish nintendo would do a collection like this for their game boy advance games...
I've been waiting for details from Pix'n Love before making my decision since they said physical was coming back when the game hit eShop. I'm currently leaning towards digital. The physical version will be pricier and it'll take some time before it arrives, meanwhile I could just go and download the game right now. It comes down to what the box contains.
@Silly_G @SilentHunter382 I appreciate you guys responding, and I hope it doesn't seem like I'm judging. I can understand wanting to have both cases from a collector's point of view. It's just with all the other boxes and cases here, all built around an object that is the size of a postage stamp, it seems super intentionally wasteful. This is the "We Heard You Like Boxes" Edition.
@JasmineDragon : Not at all, but even so, objecting to excessive packaging is a perfectly reasonable position to hold.
I would also prefer publishers issue more compilation releases in order to save on cartridges (and cases). LRG sold the first two No More Heroes games separately when both could have fit on a single 8GB cartridge. It's just silly and wasteful. I am a collector, but I do not want individual games on separate cartridges for the sake of it where it makes more sense to issue a consolidated release.
Totally checking this out, never had a NEO-GEO Pocket.
I kinda want to get it, but I own almost all of the games and only really care about Dark Arms and the Metal Slug games. Hopefully this sells well enough that we get Vol. 2 digitally and physically with a better variety of games.
I will buy this
@NinjaWaddleDee
Yes with a Gameboy and Gameboy Color collection also.
I am not even sure where I will be living by the time Limited Run ships this one out.
@Friendly vgynsoft, first press games
@birdcat tnx!
This is a good move and the obvious move. Surely this will sell fairly well.
@Silly_G - Honestly, if Star Allies didn't require 3 bots %80 of the game I would have found it to be much more enticing of a game.
Alas, it felt very gimmicky in that aspect and I just couldn't get behind that. HD Kirby Super Star is basically all I want.
@Paraka : Frankly, I would have preferred a HD port of Planet Robobot over Star Allies any day of the week. I completed the main campaign and all, but I couldn't tell you anything in particular that I remember about it.
@Silly_G - Easy money of just porting Triple Deluxe and Robobot by this point.
@Zuljaras When people buy these releases for sole purpose of reselling on ebay with an inflated price, yeah they're scalping.
@birdcat still not scalping as there is enough stock for everyone to buy at the order window.
I rather call this an investment for the future.
When you make sure that when you buy there will not be enough stock left for the others to have, then it is scalping.
