It's been a few years since we last saw Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy. First released back in 2012 on 3DS, this rhythm-based spinoff later received an expanded follow-up, the aptly named Curtain Call. However - excluding the Japan-only arcade game and Dragon Quest spinoff - we've not seen anything in the West for seven years.
The spirit was kept alive with Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, and now we have renewed hope thanks to the fact that two recent trademarks were just filed for Theatrhythm in Australia and Canada. Submitted on March 16th, Square Enix could potentially have further plans for this sub-series.
Of course, trademarks don't guarantee new announcements, as we've seen with Nintendo, and Square Enix could simply be protecting its IP. However, the timing is significant as Square Enix Presents - the 40-minute "digital-direct" presentation - is happening tomorrow, a likely setting for new reveals.
We won't have long to find out but, even if nothing gets confirmed tomorrow, we'd still recommend looking into Curtain Call, having awarded it 9/10 stars in 2014. Better yet, it's also included in Square Enix's current Spring Sale at a 50% discount.

This sounds promising.
I'd absolutely love a new Final Fantasy Theatrhythm game on the Switch, Curtain Call was one of my favorites on the 3DS.
Imagine if square did this with their other franchises like Theatrhythm Dragon Quest or Theatrhythm... Avengers?
@Jackpaza0508 - Theatrythm: Ogre Battle.
Just to salt my wounds.
Sorry but those characters in the picture look so evil with those block colour eyes
@Jackpaza0508 You mean like they have done with Kingdom Hearts?
We've had FF, DQ and KH so all of their big RPG franchises have now had the rhythm game treatment.
FFCC on Switch would be a dream. Only possible to be topped by Elite Beat Agents.
Hoping for a new entry and not a port.
I put like 400-500 hours into Curtain Call but if they were to port it to the Switch, I probably wouldn't buy it again partly due to the fact that I've already played so much of it and have moved onto other rhythm games now and partly due to the fact that I don't think it'd be as enjoyable as it was with the 3DS's touch screen. A brand new entry in the series that make some significant changes could be interesting though.
Theatrhythm for Switch would be hype.
Loved Curtain Call on 3DS.
Maybe a console port of All-Star Carnival?

Enjoyed both games and love listening to the OST CDs, however the DLC pricing always bothered me as its so expensive and I’ve never heard of a sale taking place. Maybe might just buy the Bravely Default Tracks.
@Jackpaza0508 They did! But only in Japanese. Mind you, if you know the Theatrhythm layout it's still pretty playable.
Yesterday on my way home I was thinking about this game, hoping for a port or new entry on the Switch . I have both 3ds titles-Curtain Call was the game I always kept going back to.
Unfortunately, I moved recently and my 3ds broke...well, technically just the top screen. And right now a used 3ds is expensive!
I smell another port coming? Hopefully it's a brand new title though
Couldn't really get into it though I appreciated why people loved it. I hope it does come to the Switch though. I suspect it'll be a port.
oh man I would buy this again on Switch. I loved it.
Also port the DQ version!
@Bunkerneath the chosen art style also puts me off a little. Besides the eyes, the nose makes them look like tarutarus or lilties, and the upperlip form give them some kind of cat mouth vibe.
Excellent news. Recently dusted off my 3DS to get back into this and it's so good. Sitting at around 125hrs now, and more than happy to sink a load of hours into a new entry!
Urgh, I just downloaded Curtain Call in the Spring Sale. Had to buy a new memory card too, it’s so big.
The character designs...scare me...
Let’s keep it that way!
I really hope that we get a new game. Ivebeen playing this a bit more on my 3DS and I'd love to get a new game.
I want a new Theatrhythm badly, but I also wanted a new Dissidia for ages, and that uh.... yeah
But Nintendo won't make another Rhythm Heaven for Switch yet.. sigh
Curtain Call is one of my favourite games of all time, I would kill for a new Theatrhythm! LET'S GOOOOOOO
I also wouldn't mind the Dragon Quest Theatrhythm while we're at it
I love Theatrhythm and honestly the Kingdom Hearts one was pretty disappointing. The Dragon Quest one is really good actually and you don’t need to know Japanese at all to enjoy it. I’d definitely love a general Squeenix one as the DLC tracks were amazing on Curtain Call or a Zelda one.
Pleeeeeease and new Theatrythm game would be awesome.
Why do the characters look worse than Popz figures?

@Zimon These games are, by your likely accounts, a cell phone game. There's plenty for you on the way. Step aside.
