A week after discovering Japanese video game developer Grezzo was hiring for a new project, Nintendo's UK website has seemingly revealed the same company is behind the slightly enhanced Miitopia port for Switch.
This does not appear to be the same "Medieval" And "Stylish" project the company was referring to in its recent callout for programmers, effect designers and UI designers.
Grezzo is best known for its Legend of Zelda remakes. In 2019, it released a remake of the 1993 Game Boy title Link's Awakening for the Switch. It's also worked on other Zelda titles such as Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D.
Apart from Zelda, Grezzo has developed titles like Luigi's Mansion (3DS), Ever Oasis, Tri Force Heroes, and third-party games such as The Alliance Alive. Miitopia will be available on the Switch on 21st May for $49.99 / £39.99. Pre-orders are now live.
Will you be picking this game up again? Or will this be your first time trying it out? Let us know down in the comments.

What could be in this port, why are they trying so hard for just a 3ds game, I wonder?
@Snatcher Money. That’s primarily why businesses operate.
I think they are trying to bring back the Miis
Huh, I was wondering somewhat recently what Grezzo had been up to since Luigi's Mansion 3DS.
Good to know they're still doing good work.
My question is, why is it still in 30fps?
Is this game any good? I ignored it on 3DS... But just the fact that they're trying to resurrect it is making me pay attention.
I'm curious to play it but not at this price tag, unless reviews say there is some genius unskippable thing in it. Which I doubt.
@Reyn-the-Insane are you serious? If true that’s just sad
@nessisonett True.
I wonder why they named themselves after the abomination known as "Grezzo 2"? 😲
@Toshiro_Baloney it is very much worth it. It's a great cute little game to play to pass the time.
I don't have a crapload of Miis on my Switch (notably only one, and that is based off of me)... what will the game do if a player only has ONE Mii on their system? Will the player be forced to spend HOURS creating Miis just to play this game?
I mean it was REALLY good on the 3DS because it was so easy to get other Miis (QR Codes, Streetpass, etc...) but the Switch doesn't have any of those features.
On one hand, yay Grezzo is keeping the lights on. On the other, Nintendo let them port Ever Oasis, please!
I just want this studio to hit paydirt on an original work. Ever Oasis didn’t deserve to be sent out to die on 3ds.
If u haven’t played it and like a chill game with character and charm, this is a cool game. Not cool enough for me to get it again, but I liked it.
Is this any good as a Single player game?
@Snatcher
Simply because Miitopia is that good of a game! They need to take good care of the port.
@techdude
It’s about 50hrs of miis. If you like that, then I’d say it’s very much worth it.
@Natsura The game has a built in Mii Maker, that'll prompt you to make a mii when a role needs to be filled. Either that, or you can connect to the internet and fill the role either automatically, or choose from a catalog of Miis.
Honestly, this Miitopia port's more of a remaster. HD textures, and lighting. (unlike Skyward Sword HD, which is just a port with a higher resolution.)
@VoidofLight I hope you can choose from a catalog of a lot of Miis, because I don't feel like harrassing my friends or family for Miis, nor would I want to waste HOURS trying to make enough Miis just to fill up the slots needed for this game.
@Natsura
Make your own assignment for your Miis.
It doesn't have to from your family members or your friends or your relatives.
Create your own fictional Miis, assign them with your own roles for Miitopia so you can create a lot of Miis quickly and you can decide the suirable jobs for your Miis.
Editing your Mii is a fun job, like make a painting. Even on The Sims 4, i can spent 30 min - 1 hour for editing 1 Sim from head to toe with specific outfits for every occasions. Have some patience.
@Natsura If I remember correctly, on the 3DS version they presented you with a selection of Miis you could directly choose from (which I think included some I hadn't received through StreetPass or had on my system, but maybe I'm wrong). It'll hopefully have like a random generator or you can connect online and every time you have to pick a new Mii it shows you a selection of Miis created by other players.
I have the same worry about the main characters and antagonists, though. One of the things that made the 3DS version so funny was that you could put people you know as your main adventure partners and villain, but if you have to manually create all of them before starting your adventure to get that same effect... it's going to be a very boring start of an adventure. I would be a bit deterred from actually starting it if I knew that to get the same experience I'd have to start by creating 5 or 6 Miis before going on the adventure. It would be nice if they allowed us to transfer Miis from Wii/Wii U/3DS, since it seems they are trying to bring them back a little more.
I have only 2 miis, one for myself and the other is Turg (wonder how many people know who Turg is lol)
i heard someone call this just a streetpass game and it hurts, its a very simple RPG but theres still a lot to customize and control. a lot of the fun comes from which roles you give your miis (or having them randomly generated from online submissions) and its fun seeing the lil stories unfold between them. theres post-game content to keep you playing too, but it can start to feel samey after a while
The most interesting part of the Miitopia reveal for me was seeing a 3DS port on Switch.
Surely this opens up the library for more releases.
This was fun for a few hours on 3DS but quickly grew repetitive to me. I can’t imagine paying $50 for this, it wasn’t even worth full price at launch.
I mean, no offense to fans. I got it because it seemed quirky. It was, but after the novelty wore off it felt very bland.
@boxyguy I'd imagine the people calling it a Streetpass game are mixing it up with Mii Quest/Find Mii, which was another Mii-based RPG that was a Streetpass minigame. I have a friend who never heard of the 3DS Miitopia and thought this was a very fleshed out sequel to Mii Quest (which he was excited about, I'm just pointing out that this one went under a lot of radars as a late 3DS title).
great to know this game is in good hands. it will turn out to be another great Nintendo product. we need another casual, great quality game like clubhouse games and animal crossing. cannot wait for this one.
@michellelynn0976 You said exactly what I was thinking! Looking forward to Miitopia and anything else Grezzo is involved with making.
@Natsura the catalog is online, so it's not just limited to your friends.
@RupeeClock Grezzo also developed the Link’s Awakening remake for Switch.
@FluffiestP1llow you just need a certain mr pickens in there too.😉
@Toshiro_Baloney Imagine Tomodachi Life... but it’s an RPG that’s basically what this game is it definitely deserves a second chance because its overlooked whenever we’re talking about the best 3ds games
It would be nice if we could get more 3DS remasters after this. The likes of Ever Oasis come to mind, considering Grezzo is doing this version of Miitopia and it's another late gen 3DS release that got slept on.
Im glad games like this exist on Nintendo systems... I personally would never play it but lot of people would and especially girls not being sexist but honest...they know their target audience but it makes me happy because it shows Nintendo cares that everyone has something to play thus the success of the the ds and 3ds ..that upcoming dc highschool game is in the same ballpark but it makes me a little jelly for wanting the arkham series to play on the go
Really
"not being [blank] but..." never fails to introduce [blank] comments.
Is there a big queue of people lining up for this? Of all the 3DS games worth porting to the Switch, this was never in most people's top 10. It was basically sent out to die in 2017 when Nintendo were saying "the 3ds is still here, honest" while they put out Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and MK8D on their other console. Still one of the most underwhelming bits of news in that Direct for me personally, but if you're a fan, enjoy.
I don't understand why people don't understand why they are releasing this game. Please understand.
@JohnnyC This game could be huge in Japan especially with Animal Crossing and Momotaro doing so well and basically bringing in a different type of gamer.
I really wish they would update the Mii's appearance a bit. Something in between what it is now and the Breath of the Wild Characters.
@JohnnyC i think that may be why it’s being ported. It probably didn’t sell enough for Nintendo’s liking so they want to make their money back on it.. But i think it got just okay reviews so I’d rather Nintendo give Ever Oasis or Samus Returns another chance.
@Ryu_Niiyama I don't think it was sent out to die. I think everyone, from Nintendo on down, underestimated how quickly the 3DS base would stop buying content. But I agree with you--that game absolutely deserves an audience.
How do you transfer miis from your 3DS to the Switch anyway? This would only be worth it on the Switch if I could transfer because I've barely created any Miis on the Switch.
I've seen options mentioning amiibo scanning, but is there any other way? (my 3DS can't scan amiibo)
@Toshiro_Baloney Yes it is very good
@Dizzard
"How do you transfer Miis from your 3DS to the Switch anyway?"
I used Amiibo figurines to copy my Mii from 3DS to Switch.
I have 20 Miis in my Switch system.
@Bobb Mii verse Switch edition confirmed! Lol.
@Toshiro_Baloney I enjoyed really it, but only if you’re after a rpg-lite type of experience. I’ll definitely double dip, the simplicity of it appeals to me, and makes it a fun alternative to more complex games that I’ll definitely play in parallel.
@JohnnyC Definitely a highlight for me, picking this up day one, hopefully physical.
I kept ignoring this on 3DS. That means I've passed on it at some pretty low prices, so I'm hoping for a bit extra from it for a full price buy.
Too expensive for a silly little Mii RPG ported from 3DS.
If we're getting 3DS ports, I'll take anything from 2015 on.
@Reyn-the-Insane Grezzo couldn't get Link's awakening to run without the framerate tanking, what did you expect?
@roboshort I know, that's more along the lines of where I'd like their efforts to go too. Or one of the 3ds Zelda titles.
nintendo could port a zelda and a metroid game each month this year and everyone would buy all of them. what are they doing?
Played the demo on 3ds and I thought it was hillarious and in certain ways even better than "serious" RPGs.
I wish Nintendo would stop wasting Grezzo’s talent on Zelda and this and have them develop a sequel to Ever Oasis.
The fact that Grezzo is working on it makes me even more interested in Miitopia!
I hope Grezzo will either port Ever Oasis, or make a sequel for the Switch. It was such a great game that a lot of people missed out on!
Also hope they remaster LOZ Oracle of Ages/Seasons. They did such a great job with Link's Awakening!
Grezzo please make more zelda
I really hope Miitopia being up-rezed to HD for the Switch from the 3DS is a sign that other 3DS games will be given a new HD shine and brought to Switch. Grezzo handled the Ocarina and Majora games on 3DS and seeing as how they helped with this version of Miitopia I have a feeling both previously mentioned Zelda 3DS games may be making their way to Switch in the future.
I feel like this means nothing and they won't do any more 3DS games after this. Kinda sucks because I wouldn't mind seeing some games on Switch...if they figured some areas of the games out, the Mario & Luigi games would be awesome. Also, I miss Advance Wars, what happened to that series? T.T
...Also Monster Hunter 4U, but that's Capcom, and I highly doubt they'll do that, would be nice, though....
This game absolutely made the Direct for me. My favorite 3DS game ever. I've no idea why it's so appealing but I've already pre-ordered for Switch.
@Reyn-the-Insane it used to be a 3DS game I don’t think it’s going to make a difference
This remaster/port is a $50 travesty.
We should be getting a full sequel on Switch.
Whole Direct seemed to highlight Nintendo's overpriced rehashing.
Maybe they're on the bubble waiting for new hardware to be ready?
I have Tomodachi life and Miitopia. All the Mii’s that I had basically transferred to the 3DS version. This game is fun and exciting! I look forward to playing this on the switch but not excited about the price. Though I am excited about the new hairstyles.
I loved this game on 3DS. I really wish this was a new game rather than a port. And for people debating whether it's worth the time to make a bunch of Mii's to play this game, I have this to say. If you play Miitopia with a bunch of Mii's you've based one your friends and/or coworkers, when the silly antics begin, it is hilarious! Using generic Mii's wouldn't be nearly as fun.
GREZZO my beloved
