This is... really weird? Why would Nintendo/Pokemon Company want to associate a family game like Pokemon (that loads of children play) with a foul mouthed rapper with such song titles as "Same B*tches" and "F*ck" who turns up to his concerts on drugs?

Nothing against people who like his music, but doesn't seem very appropriate. At all.

Not a fan of Post Malone or Katy Perry, so I hope some other names are involved.... I do like Malone's song in Into the Spider-verse though so I guess that's why they reached out to him.
This reminded me of the unexpected but genius collaboration between Tyler the Creator and that Grinch movie. The songs were actually great and fit perfectly for the Grinch, against all odds. I just hope whatever music they're making turns out to be decent.

When people say "out of touch", what exactly are you saying? That TPC are out of touch with pop music? or who their target audience is?

You can maybe make the case for Katy Perry being a bit out of touch for a choice. But if you're gonna make the case that Pokemon, as a franchise, is geared towards young people (as has been the defense for the direction of the game series), then how is it out of touch to hire spokespeople that are relevant to that demographic?

Maybe this is just because I'm a dumb out of touch 30 year old millennial, but... why?

@Clyde_Radcliffe I have. They do have clean versions of his songs on the radio. So I don't see what the issue is and apparently, TPC doesn't either. They did choose Katy Perry and while her lyrics aren't nearly as rated R as his, she has quite a few songs with some suggestive lyrics herself.

I mean, I guess an argument could be made to have chosen someone a little more family-friendly. But then, the only thing I can think of that's completely wholesome and current is Kidz Bop. Maybe some Disney or Nickelodeon star like Jojo Siwa

I don't know what a Post Malone is, and frankly i don't care what happened to Malone that this guy is post-about. Rap outside your intentionally kid-friendly variant and Pokemon seem an out-of-touch mix at a glance, though. And this guy's CGI looks like an unfinished Borderlands render. So count me out.

Pokémon just keeps getting worse, it is mere inches away from reaching modern Sonic The Hedgehog levels of awfulness. I literally beg you people in marketing at The Pokémon Company, please resign and stop this. Please trash every scheduled tweet and campaign you have in the works, cancel every single upcoming touch point you have with the public for this year, back out of all contracts you have with these celebrities and merchandising partners, pay whatever damages are owed to them, and resign. Tell management to resign as well. Please stop self-destructing this otherwise beloved IP. Nothing short of a complete brand, product, and philosophical reset will even begin to repair the damage you have done to this series in the past ten years.

Unsettling is more precise a description here than just disappointing. Not only does this artist appear to have exactly nothing in common with the Pokémon franchise in terms of ethos or appeal, but he appears to regularly behave in egregious ways in public. I'm genuinely taken aback that Pokémon has sought out this association.

This guy is into his metal still, too bad he doesn't incorporate any in his music at all. Some of his songs aren't bad, though.
