Annapurna Interactive is a publisher that constantly puts out video games that are the equivalent of arthouse movies, and we mean that in the best way. If you're looking for the cinematic, the strange, and the downright kooky, Annapurna's catalogue is where you'll find it. They're the Devolver Digital of games about everything, and nothing, you know?
After having published LA-based developer Ben Esposito's Donut County, it seems like they've snapped up his next game, too: Neon White, a first-person action game where you play an assassin from Hell, tasked with killing demons in Heaven. Talk about a mood change!
The team features Aevee Bee and Ryann Shannon on writing, previously of We Know The Devil and Cartoon Network show OK KO! respectively.
With inspirations from "Y2K-era anime and cult-classic character action games," according to Esposito, it's sure to be an instant favourite for some. "It's a campy anime speedrunning game made for freaks, by freaks."
Annapurna says the game is "coming soon", but that's all we know. Wishlist it here.
Is this kinda game TOTALLY your jam? Tell us all about it below.

This caught my eye but I will need to see the reviews before buying as it looks like it could do with some polish.
I feel like this is one that I'll likely need to wait for reviews on but it looks really interesting at the very least.
Wait. This is the donut country dev? Ok this just got added to the list and I don’t even like FPS games.
Yeap like others I will wait to see if this is worth getting before I throw money at it.
Yep. 3, 2, 1, let's jam.
The trailer had me hooked right from the start, I really hope it's gonna be good!
I was expecting something different
NGL, this one looks pretty hype.
This is the last thing I'd expect from the Donut County devs, but it had my interest regardless.
Just gotta see how the card mechanics works.
This looked interesting before I found out about the Donut County dev making it. Now I'm definitely watching this with interest.
This was the only game of any vague interest in the whole direct
I will try anything by Annapurna Interactive, even though they are going on quite a publishing spree this year.
so some people are saying this is a card game adventure? so is it first person or a card game.? looks cool but just wondered if any one knew for sure.
This game gives me strength my MEGATEN vibes not sure why...
It looked like a on rails shooter to me at first glance.
"It's a campy..."
Sure, good, good...
"... anime..."
Fine, I can still get behind this...
"... speedrunning game"
Oh.
Hopefully this comes to gamepass, I enjoyed Donut County but glad that I didn't have to pay for it as it was so short with no replay value.
I'll be honest. I didn't get what was going on. It looked cool, and the story is super anime. But I'll need more gameplay or a review.
I found the preview video really cool looking. I’m excited to see how it reviews.
Trailer both intrigued and baffled me. Not sure what parkour and card collecting have to do with assassinating demons
This was perhaps the weirdest game on the Direct, past paced FPS action, with cards.. in a World giving me bayonetta vibes...
I noticed the name Ben Esposito in the Direct and couldn't think where I'd heard it before. Didn't expect this game to come from Donut County's developer lol
This game is pretty hype for me. It looks very unique and fun. Someone correct me if Im wrong but I think this may be the first card-based FPS game. We've had card-based RPGs, rogue-likes, strategy games but not a FPS. If this game has online multiplayer it will be a day one purchase for me
I love the general concept and aesthetic this game has but will say that I need to see more gameplay. Maybe I'm just dumb but I was a little lost with what they showed in the trailer with the FPS mechanic combined with like...a card system I think?
@michellelynn0976 It's a first person shooter, but each bullet is a "card" that you pick up around the level.
Took me a minute to figure it out, definitely weird!
@OstianOwl Look up Kingdom heart chain of memories gameplay, exactly same thing but as a first person shooter.
@pixelpatch I mean, I've played Chain of Memories but suppose couldn't properly process how the whole card mechanic was working in a FPS as opposed to a 3rd person action RPG.
@OstianOwl basically the same, though it's definitely a weird one.
The big difference is that when you use a card in this game it doesnt get shuffled, its gone.
So instead of having a loadout of 5 weapons, you find the cards as you travel the level and spend them to attack.
hope it runs good and has reviews but I AM keeping my eye on this one
@jump hmm. Yeah I do kinda agree with the graphics.
It looks pretty good but I feel it has the potential to look better than right now
