A brand new video has been released for Sword of the Necromancer, showing off the game's anime-inspired opening cinematic trailer.
Made by Sunshine Animation Studio, the trailer gives us a quick tease of the game's story and the enemies you'll face ahead of the game's launch this December. A free 'prologue' version of the game has also appeared on Steam, letting players have a quick go for themselves to check out its mechanics and first boss.
Sword of the Necromancer is a dungeon-crawler action-RPG with roguelike elements where you can revive your defeated enemies to make them fight alongside you. Turn your foes into allies using the forbidden powers of the Sword of the Necromancer and help the rogue Tama reach the dungeon's depths in order to gain enough power to bring her beloved priestess Koko back from the dead. Gather a small army of monsters, equip yourself with weapons and relics, and level up to take on the guardians that stand between you and your goal.
As noted above, the full game will arrive on Switch this December. The development team says the title "is inspired by rogue-like games like Enter the Gungeon, 2D Zelda games like A Link to the Past and features monster-catching mechanics inspired by Azure Dreams."
Strange, the stages kinda look like Wizards of legends stages to me, look it up if you haven't played it, loved it. but it's just the stages to me. So, I may pick this one up
Waiting for my physical from the Kickstarter for this game, looks very interesting to me
"Monster summoning roguelike". Azure Dreams says hello.
@FantasiaWHT That's why they mention it as an inspiration 😝
I thought that said Sword of the NecroDancer and got really excited for a second.
Apparently, I can't read necromancer anymore.
If correct I have this CE on PreOrder already.
@DarthXenos OH haha I missed that in my skimming.
I'd probably watch an anime like this. But the game is a little outside my usual tastes.
I played the demo... There's more flow in making combos in Wizard of Legend than this game, but not to compare this to another game. In general it felt real difficult trying to do combos, and there's this god awful sound effect that's not like a sword when using the necromancer sword.
I also found it disappointing that I had to get rid of an item in an inventory slot for potion I was going to immediately use anyway.
I feel I'm being a bit nitpicky, but all in all, I think I'll pass on this. Great concept though!
