Nintendo's shiny new toy, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, is now available to buy on Switch. It might be rubbing people's cats up the wrong way, but this clever, creative way to play one of the best multiplayer series of all time is certainly providing lots of enjoyment for new buyers.
If you've read/watched our full review of the game and the included RC car, you'll have seen Mario and Luigi doing laps of the nicely carpeted Nintendo Life office. But, as it happens, you can take things one step further and have the karts going over ramps, under tunnels, and even for a quick drive in the garden.

In the video above, you'll see the folks at FamilyGamerTV testing out Mario Kart Live on a homemade course consisting of ramps, bridges, and tunnels. It proves that, if you're creative enough and have the room, you can build multi-level tracks that see your karts going over bumps and underneath hidden secret passageways.
Naturally, you're not going to be able to create Everest-like slopes, but it's good to see that the karts can manage to climb moderately steep inclines should you wish to build a monster of a track at home – perhaps you could create long, slanted shelves that have the karts rising to head height and back? As a nice bonus, if your kart falls off, you then get to play the role of Lakitu and plonk your fallen racer back onto the track!

Have you been having fun with Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit? Have you been building any fancy tracks like this one? Let us know in the comments below.

I get it, NL, you want me to buy it. I want to buy it. But it's just not that simple. So just easy on the whole "Oooh, look at this - it's everything you've ever wanted..." act.
It's killing me.
Ok, now it's turned into actual Power Drift!!!
It even works underwater!

I can see how creating imaginative tracks around areas of your house can he part of the draw. I still think it'll he a novelty. Also the cost of having to buy a second car to race?
@HotGoomba From what I hear the astronauts at the international space station are racing on rainbows.
I'm waiting for the inevitable dog reaction videos to it as they run off with Mario's head in their mouths!
My apartment is 15 sqm... So it's a no from me...
This is everything hotwheels id wants to be
I won't be getting this game myself, but I am super stoked to watch other people build crazy contraptions and put them to the test!
When nintendo is getting out of ideas, they bring a game where the player has to be creative haha. Just kidding 🤪
I can't wait to get this!
I'm excited to see all the homemade custom tracks people make. I imagine some people are going to make some insane tracks
@LEGEND_MARIOID second car and second switch
@AZD1222 Indeed, yes!
I need to buy this for when i get a house.
They should’ve called this, ‘Mario Kart: DIY’
"The ceiling's the limit."
Not if you have a skylight! High-stakes rooftop racing ahoy! 😆
I want this so bad. Too bad it's no where to buy!!
Breakin' all the rules!
This is fake news! A few days ago NL strictly advised people not to use it outdoors, now they promote an outdoor video!
Just kidding! The whole "don't use it outside" talk is just that Nintendo doesn't get warranty claims. "Outside" doesn't necessarily mean off road and dirty. Using yoga mats and so one I'm sure people can create hilarious tracks in their gardens!
Not sure what i can use to make a ramp. Will have to see what I have about the house to fashion something.
This is amazing, but they won't let us save track data :/ It'd be cool if they could save pics from when you draw the track for where each marker belongs, and then u could name it and they'd show you where to put the markers.
I don't you but all the kids are having fun even the announcer is having fun. Now that's what I call Innovations .....
I can't wait until they are back in stock/new carts are released. This is a great opportunity to get use out of all my Legos!
Why was Gamexplain not able to get the karts to run on any incline?
@nukatha one possibility is the tracks they are using in this video. I assume it's the anki overdrive tracks which are made for slot cars (anki doesn't have "slots", though).
The might have a better friction compared to other materials.
@blockfight that's half the fun, right? 😁
@sportvater right. I've already printed off extra arrow signs for around the side of track. Some ramps would be nice. Maybe some curbs too.
@blockfight great work! I'm looking for tunnels right now and some workaround to get LED-headlights on the Kart without being too heavy. Someone got an idea?
I would have loved this as a kid.
nice track!!
I’ve got to step up my game and come up with more creative tracks!
@JayJ then try to love it now! Try to stay you as long as possible 🙃
@mazzel The karts here look like they're going faster than I've seen in other videos. Maybe they're on faster than 50cc? Faster karts might go up small inclines better?
@sportvater Hey that's why I am still into video games lol.
That's what I was talking about recently. I'd love to see people build even more impressive stuff around this game, like... more than just cardboard bridges and the like but actual MK miniature tracks in real life, with the actual materials (use bonsai for trees or something)
RIP Anki Overdrive. it was that game that put my wife against getting Mario Kart Live. However I got it anyway =)
@daebiya that’s because people bought them all up and now the places like Facebook market place have Tons of them for 120 to 160. People just need to wait and these dudes will sell for what they got for (I bought 2 for Christmas for my boys and they rang up 90 at Walmart? I also notice the guys that were trying to sell the ACNH switches have dropped them down to 300 because here in the U.S they are re-stocked everywhere.
I am hoping people will go on to create very creative tracks this looks like its perfect to create hilarious tracks and tricky ones.
@skycargav2000 Cools thanks. Yeah trying to snatch 2 for my kids christmas present. Seems impossible at the moment.
As a kid I’d have been making the biggest ramps, and jumps, etc.
.. while not appreciating how expensive these things are
