GungHo Online Entertainment has finally shared more details on Ninjala's upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration, including its launch date and info on what exactly will be going down.
It'll all be kicking off on 23rd September, lasting for almost a month until 21st October. During that time, players will be able to join in the fun with a variety of Sonic-themed items including:
- Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles avatar outfits
- Sonic and Dr. Eggman IPPON decorations
- A Dr. Eggman Gum Utsusemi transformation
These items will be available to purchase with Jala (a currency that you can acquire through simply playing the game) at the in-game shop.
That's not all, though, as the latest Dev Diary video (above) has also shown off an upcoming game mode called 'Featured Battle'. This new mode shakes things up by adding limited-time events that feature "wild new ways to play". Here's more:
Coming in early October, the new game mode Featured Battle will be added to Ninjala – with Beast Attack! making its debut as the very first limited-time event. Players can expect new events to appear periodically in Featured Battle, each with unique and varied gameplay elements.
Beast Attack! is an extreme ninja version of tag where eight players enter an arena and some are randomly chosen to become a ‘Beast.’ The Beasts must hunt down and defeat the ‘ninja’ players as quickly as possible in order to return to their ninja form and regain the ability to earn points. The longer the ninja players avoid the Beasts, the more points they earn. If players are too slow and defeated, they then become a Beast and must defeat a ninja to start earning points again.
For hot-dogging Ninjala players, taunting the Beasts with in-game emotes will earn you extra points, but don’t admire yourself too long or you’ll get tagged easily! Each ninja player is limited to the same ability set for an even playing field, but it’s every ninja for themself once the chase begins!
Ninjala is currently in its second season, which introduced new weapons, new abilities, a new stage and more.
Will you be rocking those Sonic outfits when they're released later this month? Have you been enjoying your time with Ninjala? Tell us below.

These look so sick! Can't wait to get them!
Fun fact: That pose is an imitation of Sonic's artwork for Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Is the game any good? It would be nice to hear from players rather than 'reviews'.
this actually looks awesome to me, thanks for the heads-up!
Eh, the costumes look kinda lame, but the new game mode is fine
@Grandiajet would've been fun if you started on day one.
Like any online game, the appeal drops off fast and you're left with the sweatiest of tryhards
@JR150
Sonic himself stroke that pose during his own movie!
Is the game already out in Europe then as I thought we could not play it because of lootboxes
Still didn't play it. But those are some of the coolest crossover costumes I've seen in a while, so I may get into the game.
Pretty good costumes! I've not tried the game out yet, but I may over the weekend to see if I'd like it.
Also, I'm wondering where all the detractors of limited time purchase windows are at.
Now THAT's a gamemode I can get behind! xD
That looks stupid
@Grandiajet the game is good! It’s got a steep learning curve but once you understand the mechanics and how to play it’s quite fun!
Only problem for me was not enough outfits to change into, which made many players look the same.. but that’s a small issue.
The second season’s rewards are also a bit weak compared to the first so I didn’t buy in. But after paying $2 for the special which got me coins to play the first season, I have more than enough to play another season, so the value is good!
Try it out for sure
I may get back into this game but I found it kinda boring jk I loved it but I stop playing it after I lost my jala to that gumball thing, but I love sonic I cant stress how much I love sonic so I think I will bite.
@Grandiajet at first i found the game to have a rough learning curve first starting off. they dont go over everything too in depth so its hard to remember everything to put into practice, though i found myself much more engaged once i got the hang of it. but not everyones gonna have that patience
the load times are pretty bad too, it takes me roughly 5 mins to load a whole match, and theres even chances youll get the infamous "opponent not found" message and booted back to the menu to restart the whole matchmaking process
the gameplay and weapons can be fun and strategic, if not somewhat luck based (rock paper scissors parry system). its not too hardcore so i think it can be a fun game to just chip away at. i think its more engaging with teammates (which is a mode you unlock later) so you feel more involved with others and show off your emojis to them and stuff.
overall i think its learning curve and slow load times can be off putting for others, if you already have a backlog of games to play this probably wont catch your attention for too long, but there is some fun to be had with the game. they still have planned story mode chapters and even cartoon shorts to promo and game and its lore, so theyre definitely a lot of passion and plans for this game. they just need to work on the connection errors not being so frequent cause thats everyones no 1 complaint so far
This game has so much potential. I play it in small doses. I always think of it as Splatoon without guns.
@Coach_A I wouldn't say that, there are still lots of new players joining, the tryhards only start to surface once a game is starting to die, but Ninjala is far from dying.
