Rumour: Advert Suggests Smash Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter Could Be Revealed By Early October

Given how Nintendo's doing weekly news nowadays, I'd guess this week is Animal Crossing update and 1 of Smash or Pokemon with the other being next week. The other half of the ad is the Sword/Shield expansion pass.

Here before someone guesses that it's Waluigi for the millionth/billionth/trillionth/jillionth/brazzilionth time.

@elias84631 Not going to happen. Characters from JJBA are from Manga and Anime, and Sakurai stated that all DLC will be from video games so no Jojo, Goku or Naruto will be joining Smash.

Hoping for any of the following; Hoaohmaru (SamSho), Chun-Li, Axel (Streets of Rage), Jill Valentine, Ryu Hayabusa or Cody (Final Fight). We'll probably get someone from Fire Emblem...

I believe it to be legitimate. This has happened in the past and it would not surprise me if Nintendo announces a new Direct and we'll get the Fighter announced during said Direct.

@AG_Awesome that and board the platforms are two modes I would have liked. They could even use the stage builder to allow people to create and upload their own stages.

@Pod It's not just a character, it will come with Amiibo support, a new stage, and some new musics from the source game the fighter originate from as well. Unlike other DLC fighters from other games, Sakurai not only bring the character but the main ingredient that made that character special too like a dedicated moveset, a special Smash style stage, an assist trophy character related to the DLC fighter, a Kirby version of that fighter, some new Palutena Guidance for the new fighter, and remastered soundtrack from the source game of the DLC fighter.

@TimboSlice It won't happen cause Disney own Star Wars now. A Jedi battle between Darth Vader and Travis Touchdown would be awesome though.

These are just the ones I want in the game: master chief or doomguy (can't really coexist in the same fighter pack so if one comes the other probably wont) Phoenix wright, rex from xenoblade (although xc1 is superior I know), geno, crash or spyro (I feel if one makes it in the other probably won't), maybe a persona protagonist of they are bringing 4 golden to switch (but there's already been joker so...), and last but not least one of my favorites rayman. Although I know this is stupid but imagine this: the piece of bread from I am bread. Imagine it. You know you want it. Just like you know you want the goose from untitled goose game.

Is there anyone from Fire Emblem that uses a sword that isn't in Smash? Then that's my pick.

@mjharper bro i have played fire emblem more than almost any other game series and even i think they should hold off for a LONG time before adding another fe character. Fan backlash would be so high I'm imagining it right now lol. Phoenix wright is my number one pick just because the games are so good and there was a time (about 2005 to 10ish) when you could just shout objection! In a crowd and people would actually think you were referring to Phoenix wright I mean he was big and his games are still good as well as popular on switch so...

@rex_rex by the way what is no more heroes? Have no idea heard it was kinda like bayonetta and I never really was attracted to bayonetta because I'm not a fan of the hack and slash genre. Although I thought hyrule warriors was good on fan service alone so i will be picking up age of calamity eventually:)

It's the whole official treatment. It's an outsider being inducted and all that.

It's high time. I've been wanting at least a name for a long while now, and hopefully we can get back to ambitious third-party characters. It's a rumor to be sure, but 1) we'll get all fighters eventually and 2) it's the first information out of the gaming world to give me a smile ever since the Mario direct.

Why do a lot of people assume the character has to tie into something recently revealed or released? Only Hero and Byleth did that in the first pass. Granted, a lot of my predictions are kind of rooted in Nintendo trying to promote a game alongside the character, but why would Nintendo need to promote Age of Calamity with a Smash rep? It'll sell because of its Breath of the Wild connection alone, most of the best picks for Zelda reps are off the table as Assist Trophies, and I don't see a Champion composite character as DLC, or a solo champion making it in without the others.

I think any character is on the table except for Spirits added after planning for the pass began, around September (so no Ring Fit Trainers, no Leon Kennedy, no Kunio, no Gen 8 Pokemon, no Officer Howard). I'm thinking this pass is going to be mostly third-party reps again because those characters generate the most buzz and have gone down well in the past.

Edit: Oh, and keep in mind this character was likely intended for an E3 reveal! Hero and Banjo were both pretty big picks, so this character will probably also be a big deal

@AlienigenX bro I get not wanting doomguy because of his heavy metal kind of vibe but I mean it's about time something from minecraft was in smash. I don't even play minecraft anymore but fortnite and crap like that aren't in the game because they are just fads games that are popular but usually not even good titles. Now animal crossing may be a fad but it is also a great game that has been around a while. Minecraft is a fantastic game there is no way around it. Between the charm the fun building the multiplayer this game is easily one of the greatest and it really should be represented in smash brothers.

@DJ_Cheemstar I know that but the fact is mario is the most important franchise in video game and is the flagship of the one that made the game. Fire emblem although it is one of my favorite series has only had a few of its games be successful and most of the characters that came to smash were from the not popular games. As good as the games are, mario is not only the one who saved the industry but also has some of the best games ever so all I am saying is it's natural he has the reps. Should he get more? Hell no we already have a lot. But what we do need is geno he represents the RPG series not the actual mario games so that I would be cool with.

I'm not the right person to answer that (never played NMH before) but it seems it's a very important franchise to Nintendo and Travis seems fit perfect to smash, crazy, has a sword and it's exclusive.. hahah! And to be honest I never played Bayonetta either! even though it's nice to have her on smash (and i'll play her games, 1, 2 and 3! ). @DJ_Cheemstar Mario is not only Nintendo’s flagship franchise, but it’s also the highest grossing video game IP in history. The cast of Mario is instantly recognizable to anyone who has even heard of video games, and each playable Mario character in Smash has made many, many appearances in games of various genres. The same can not be said for Fire Emblem as a franchise nor the characters from Fire Emblem in Smash. Aside from Ike and Marth, none of the characters were featured outside of amiibo cameos (or in Warriors) in more than a single game, and to your average person, the eight characters are virtually indistinguishable. Don’t get me wrong, I love FE, but to try to argue that it deserves as much representation in Smash as Mario is a bit silly. For crying out loud, Zelda hasn’t received a new character since Brawl, and technically we have three Links, two Zeldas and Ganondorf (a clone of a character form an unrelated IP) representing what could be considered Nintendo’s number two IP.

I hear a lot of rumors that Ryu from Ninja Gaiden would be the next Smash character. Rather that comes tru or not I’m definitely ready for the next character to show up.

WAH I can't wait to see 7-11's Smash adverts on Oct 5th. Luigi needs his foil.

I feel like it's most likely a 3rd party company's character this time, though.

Since Ultimate has been bringing back the paid Mii Fighter outfits from Smash 4, that means there's likely one more Squenix character on the docket, to bring back the Geno outfit and Chocobo hat, which may or may not bring back Namco's Lloyd Irving and Tower of Druaga outfits with them since they're RPG/adventure-related. If they added Terra from FF6 to finally give Final Fantasy the music representation it deserves, that would be lovely.

My top three wishes are Alex Roivas/Pious, Klonoa, and Adol Christin.

If I had to guess it is something Mario related since it is the 35th, so other than Waluigi who is missing?

I'd rather the hunter than a Palico. The palico could just be a trophy or assist. Can handle it the same was as Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Different moves with different weapons. Doesnt need to use all of them. Just a few.

And the wirebug would make for a perfect Up B recovery move!

@DJ_Cheemstar I’ll agree that Mario has significant enough representation at this point. There are other first party series that need attention in Smash (see my previous comment about Zelda). And I know it’s a fairly unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Waluigi deserves a spot in Smash, either. He’s never appeared in a mainline Mario game, and he’s essentially just a filler spot on the roster of spinoff titles. Sure, he’s amusing here and there, but any potential move set for him would have to be entirely made up or drawn from stretched obscurity. What would a stage representing him even look like? What unique new music could they include? I’d much rather see another Zelda character, or even someone from Kirby.

@BoyfriendOfDeath I highly doubt that, for several reasons. There are no third-party series In Smash with more than one unique character (Ken and Richter are echoes). Square Enix is super cagey with their properties, and it was a stretch for Sakurai even to secure the rights to put Cloud in the game, as evidenced by the two music tracks and complete lack of FF spirits. And thirdly, Hero is a Square-Enix character, and I doubt they’d include another DLC property from a studio already part of the DLC.

I've put over 2000 hrs into MH, and while the felynes are cool, we already have a felyne amiibo. Multiple felyne amiibo actually counting the MH Stories amiibo. We have yet to see a Hunter amiibo, even with all 9 MH amiibo to date.

Plus hunter is much cooler to play as, 14 weapon types to choose from, wirebug recovery like in MH Rise, it's too perfect of a fit. Adding a felyne would be like adding a toad but skipping Mario. I'm ok with a felyne but not before we get a hunter first. I loved playing the Hunter in Marvel vs Capcom.

I really like Octopath Traveler and I think Tressa could add a lot of unique game mechanics to Smash. It's never going to happen of course.

@PikaPhantom Namco owns Heihachi, so they can drop them whenever they want; and since Min Min is a fighting game person, he's thematically appropriate. See also: Akira and Jacky's costumes coming back with Terry.

Point being, Squenix considers themselves too important to "just" let their old DLC come back on its own, since they "deigned" to give us Cloud and Hero. Geno and Chocobo outfits will definitely tie in with the related fighter.

@Sabrewing I get that argument, and it's even supported by the Sonic costumes that happened alongside Joker, but as I mentioned, Mega Man costumes have just kind of happened alongside Banjo and Byleth, and Cuphead didn't happen alongside Banjo - Sans did.
