If you missed out on the Colors Live Kickstarter campaign but wish you could have secured a copy for yourself, you'll be pleased to know that general pre-orders have now gone live.
The team behind the game has opened pre-orders on its very own store via Gamefound. There are two different options to choose from: a $39.99 Basic Pre-Order Bundle which includes a digital copy of the game, the SonarPen, and an in-game badge, or the $62.99 Patron Pre-Order Bundle which throws in plenty of in-game extras, a pouch for your pen, access to a beta, and a choice of pen colour.
Your SonarPen will be shipped out to you when the game launches this summer, and you'll receive a digital game code via email which can be redeemed on the Switch eShop once the software goes live.
The SonarPen is a particularly clever piece of kit that actually plugs into the Switch's headphone jack and uses audio to allow for pressure-sensitive art on the console's touchscreen.
Did you ever try Colors! 3D on the 3DS? Are you looking forward to this new edition on Switch? Tell us below.

Immediately backed on Kickstarter when announced.
Got my aqua green sonar pen all ordered up. Very much looking forward to drawing on Switch! Been using the 3DS app right up to last month!
It was meant to be shipping out of Hong Kong but not sure if it changed, so hopefully exporting isn't too complex in light of everything.
Wow I am very interested in this!
This is so cool. I'm already using an ipad pro with procreate to make digital art and I'm LOVING it but I'm curious about this. I wonder about exporting works.
Yes this looks really good
I'd like to see some tech info like resolutions output to and or dpi. Last thing I want to buy is novelty tech that gathers dust.
Even despite my bad past with Kickstarter, I still donated to this. It was such an original idea.
Would I be able to watch bob ross episodes on YouTube and then use this game to imitate what I’m seeing? Or does it not have an oil painting setting?
My first ever Kickstarter backing!
Hoping it inspires Nintendo to give us some more Art Academy.
Yeah this was the first (and so far only) Kickstarter I ever backed too. Can't wait to get my pen.
I'm so glad this was kickstarted! I have wanted an Art Academy game for a while, and this seems to scratch that switch for me.
Quite the price, but considering my furthered interest in art over the past year, I might just buy this.
Do I need a US account to redeem the download code for the game?
So what was the benefit of being a Kickstarter backer?
Backed the standard version as I love the idea but am terrible at drawing. Looking forward to something else different on the switch.
Its a neat app for kids starting digital art and some artist make real good use of it but it doesn’t offer much tools
I put in over 1,000 hours into the 3ds version, and backed this day one of it going live! Can't wait to start drawing on my switch! Just hope my joy con drift won't interfere with doodling...
@Perryg92 As soon as I found out about this i backed 1 or 2 days later...
Nabbled me a Neon green pen. Wanted to go orange but not an option, and the shade of pink isn't to my tasts. yellow/red would of been some of my other choises.
@AG_Awesome I have the beta, don't think it does, but it has decent starting options for now. Do keep in mind not all the functions are in the beta yet... I'm can't wait to try colors quest... you can pick how strong a brush works and theres 3 brushes so far, more will be coming in the future so I'd recommend joining the discord if you can.
@AG_Awesome maybe not directly, the colors in the app dont blend as naturally as real paint. but the beta is still looking on adding more brushes so who knows
im really looking forward to this. i grew up drawing on the 3ds version and its great to see the series be as big as its ever been. its such a neat accessory too, looking forward to receiving my blue pen
@Musharna That sounds really awesome. I have no artistic ability so I’m curious, does the game help teach much or is it mainly for people who are already skilled at creating? That’s why I’d love to just watch Bob Ross paint and then go along with him on the Switch. I really hope the game can work that way as I’d rather buy it than an expensive paint kit.
@boxyguy Thank you for the input. I hope as it goes on there will be updates that make it more doable. I’d love to be able to try to paint along with Mr Ross using my switch.
Omg love it!
This is going to be fun
Seems cool I guess but then again I doubt I would be drawing on my Switch much.
Will this available in the UK/Europe??
@AG_Awesome it does not but its designed to be simple as possable to use so anybody can use it. Colors quest may do a little bit of teaching, but that isn't yet in the beta.
@dethmart it will yes, comming to all regions in 2020, japan is later than other regions, but will come to the EU.
@RPGamer I did not intend on that pun. I'd never stoop that low in no way switchever.
@Musharna @boxyguy Hi guys. Just wondering if either of you got the full game release and if it’s possible to do any bob ross style painting.
@AG_Awesome yeah i have the game. the color still dont blend as naturally as irl, but there is a painting brush that could still mimic the style. id say bob ross style videos are possible to follow. i saw someone try it on ms paint and it still looked good haha
its still a very simple yet powerful drawing app if youre interested in it on switch!
@AG_Awesome yeah it is.
