If today's Paper Mario reveal wasn't exciting enough, we now have mumblings of a potential Pikmin 3 rerelease for Nintendo Switch to ponder over.
In a newly-posted article discussing Paper Mario: The Origami King's announcement, VentureBeat has reported that "other Nintendo studios will have games ready for release soon, as well. That includes the 3D Mario remasters, but it should also include Pikmin 3 Deluxe".
The line about 3D Mario remasters is, of course, referring to the rumoured 35th-anniversary releases that were first reported on back in March. 'Pikmin 3 Deluxe', however, is something that we haven't heard a whole lot about before.
So, should we be expecting a boatload of Mario games and Pikmin 3 Deluxe this year? We'll have to wait and see what Nintendo decides to officially unveil, but it's certainly an exciting prospect.
What do you think? Do you believe the claim that a Pikmin 3 rerelease is on the way? Let us know with a comment.

this doesn't look like pikmin 4
Please, Nintendo, stop announcing major releases just two months before their release.
@RupeeClock Why? It's good that they are released earlier rathern than later
Seriously, what happened to Pikmin 4?
Pikmin 3 had a short campaign so the D.L.C. bundled with some new bonus content would definitely make it feel "Deluxe".
Sure, i'll take it
@RupeeClock I love announcements with quick turnarounds. I’m especially a fan of surprise “available now!” releases.
I was so pumped when I noticed that the new Paper Mario drops in just two months.
I would buy all of these!!!
Would you rather they be announced way before they even have any details like Bayonetta 3, Shin Megami Tensei 5, or Elder Scrolls 6? I prefer to have a game announced when it's already got a solid foundation and just about ready to release. It means you'll most likely get what you see.
Its a pattern that all these hd or deluxe versions of games come with petite additions we should expect It at least comes with all the dlc
I’ll be happy if this is true, but I liked Wii Pointer controls on Pikmin 3, it will be interesting to see what they come up with on controls
@RupeeClock I'm really curious... why?? This seems like the best way to announce things! I'm so excited that Paper Mario is out in only two months
I want Pikmin FOUR!!! 😢
I shall believe what I choose to believe. And I shall believe it to be true... hopefully 1 and 2 being bolted on will make it "deluxe" enough.
WHAT ABOUT PIKMIN 4???
@ImagineerNik What happened to Metroid Prime 4?
I understand, the wait is unbearable. I guess Nintendo is trying to tide people over with rereleases until they feel confident to reveal these two M.I.A. games, assuming of course that Metroid Prime Trilogy H.D. and Pikmin 3 Deluxe are real.
I'd love to get Pikmin 3 again. I sold my Wii U collection off last year as it became more of a paperweight over the years. Hope it includes extra content (if it IS being made.)
@MJL
The problem is that we don't have anything to anticipate, and it makes the Switch's upcoming library look like nothing of interest is coming out.
I get why they do it, controlled interest in smaller selections means the best sales for each release, like why Xenoblade Definitive Edition wasn't revealed until after Animal Crossing New Horizons launched.
I'll join everyone in saying. You miss typed "Pikmin 4". But in all honesty it'll gauge interest if Pikmin 3 sells at all on Switch.
Maybe they‘ll announce both? (Pikmin 3 DX & 4)
Oh, now I'm super interested in what they will be adding. Maybe it was an idea for 4 that didn't quite make a full game. Better yet, an idea that would be a natural lead into 4. Either way, it's not like we can ask for the fourth game and simply expect different levels lol.
Cool, I'd probably buy that again because 3 was amazing.
Interested to see how it translates to the Switch though. The Wii remote + Nunchuck will always be the best way to play Pikmin.
My poor innocent wallet.
If they're doing a Pikmin port, I feel like we should be getting a Pikmin trilogy HD remaster kind of thing.
If it's only Pikmin 3, I hope they add more content to the DX version.
@Elvie But we know what happened to Metroid Prime 4, whereas Pikmin 4 went from a "nearly finished" game to disappearing from existence entirely.
@Heavyarms55 They sold Tropical Freeze again for $60. That Pikmin 3 port is going to be Pikmin 3 alone, and $60 as well. They know they can get away with it.
@RupeeClock No way! I love when they do it this way. Long enough for them to properly get the word out, but not so long that the wait feels agonizing for us. Plus, it’s probably way easier for them to maintain hype levels when the window is this brief.
I think they want to see how this one does first, as the games have never been massive sellers, but with the Switch's insane games ratio who knows, could sell well and pave the way for Pokemon 4.
Pikmin 3 was lovely. I think Pikmin 2 was my favorite, but they’re all great. I’d buy any, and all.
Okay?
I'll be the old man here and say that 3 isn't the most interesting game in the series for a newcomer, and that they might want to remake 1 and 2 in the 3 engine first, with the Wii-controls AND the Wii U touch controls included. As well as classic controls.
Get everybody up to speed, ya know.
@BAN
I'm surprised so many people feel the other way, but I understand it.
The frustration comes from when you're waiting for a particular new entry in your favourite series, and there's been no news or anything for a very, very long time. Nintendo never teases games, it's always rumours and speculation.
pikmin 3 plus the dlc plus new campain with olimar were you play with the white and purple pikmin
I was about to replay Pikmin 3 on my WiiU. Maybe now I'll wait and double dip on Switch. It is one of my favorite games ever, after all.
Here's hoping for Bingo Battle online!
I think the mysterious Pikmin 4 that was in the works actually came out already in the form of Hey! Pikmin!
Y U No Pikmin 4!? 😒
I would actually prefer the original, but this would be good as well.
Got a WiiU late last year for $60 and Pikmin 3 like new for $10. If this ends up being Pikmin Trilogy I’m in for $60. If it’s just Pikmin 3 Deluxe I can wait a year or two for a good sale (although I’m still waiting for a good one on Tropical Freeze).
@RupeeClock
On the one hand it sucks to not be able to just look forward too games when this happens. And some people plan out games with budgeting and such.
On the other, it's awesome! Cause we don't have to wait years for the game. It's just two months away, and can be the the hype train for a shorter time till release.
ArloStuff is going to explode!
Makes sense, this one had amazing multiplayer. Perfect for Switch.
I’m much more interested in Super Mario 3D remaster. When do you think this game and Pikmin will be announced?
Pikmin 4, please. It was supposed to be nearly finished like 5 years ago.
@RupeeClock What do you mean Xenoblade wasn't revealed til after AC launched? We've known about Xenoblade since September.
I'd love to have the whole Pikmin series on Switch, but I'll take this. Aaaaand the list of reasons to own a Wii U shrinks yet again if this is true. I'm just eagerly awaiting Mario 3D World and hopefully Twilight Princess HD.
I wanna see more games like Nintendogs, a follow up to Ring Fit. Greatly looking forward to Clubhouse Games. Hoping Nintendo focuses development in that vein — traditional fun pick em up and go type games that don't require heavy investment.
I liked that about the Wii days. There was more of a focus on the demographics that just like quick 5 minute burst type games. The pick em up and go type games.
Hell yea I didn’t have a Wii U. Pikmin 3 allllllll day baby
I really like Pikmin 3. Can't wait to play it on Switch
My only worry is that Pikmin 3 had some difficult parts where you would need the Wiimote to play with-- running away from a boss one way while simultaneously throwing pikmin the other way which you could not do with one control stick. Maybe they'll have different control options so I can control where I throw Pikmin with the right stick? But then I don't know what I would do with the camera. Old school N64 with rotating the camera left and right with buttons? I dunno
I just hope Pikmin 4 is actually "still in development"
This makes total sense. Port the Engine, get the public ready for Pikmin 4. Make it so Nintendo. I’ll double dip without even thinking about it.
Yes, more Wii U ports. Bring XCX next time.
Missed out on Wii U, really looking forward to completing the Pikmin trilogy!
When Nintendo writes their history book, they'll mention how they went straight from the Wii to the Switch.
There will never be any reference tot he Wii U. It never existed.
If Mario 64 gets remastered I’m going to lose my mind. Knowing Nintendo they will pull out all the stops and really make it something special. And I know when that happens, people will be barking up the Ocarina of Time remaster tree.
Me? I’d love to see both someday.
I wouldn’t be content with just 3. All 3 games should be remastered one card. They’re small games.
@NorseGamerTommy This. Woolly World was released in America months after it released in the UK, and my hype for the game completely died by that point.
Couldn't we have gotten Paper Mario TTYD Deluxe and Pikmin 4 instead?
Next year is also Pikmin's 20th anniversary so maybe they are waiting for next year for pikmin 4
@Elvie The campaign was fantastic but man, all the replay value was locked behind DLC packs.
Where’s pikmin 5 actually where’s starfox zero fx gx DX ultimate.
Cool I'd be down for this too. Haven't played a game in the series..
"Rumors of Pikmin 4 and a Paper Mario title that's actually good!"
Nah, here's Pikmin 3 Deluxe and another experimental Paper Mario.
That sounds like Nintendo.
@RareFan They already confirmed that Hey! Pikmin wasn't the Pikmin 4 Miyamoto was referring to.
Pikmin for me is a unique game where I love it but when a pikmin dies on my watch I feel terrible knowing that it won’t ever come back to life. I honestly now can’t get over that x I did buy 3 but only played an hour or until the first one passed away x x
Pikmin 3 would be day 1 for me!
...and 4
@ImagineerNik hey pikmin
@KingBowser86 this one looks good. Doenst look too experimental. And who knows it can actually be fun! Dont hate on it yet
I love Pikmin 3 and will def get it again... but where is my pikmin 4? Hopefully it does well on switch and a new generation get to experience its magic
I’m all for pikmin 3 for switch, I have 1&2 and never owned a wii u
@PickledKong64 That's not what Miyamoto was referring to
Never played a Pikmin game tbh, what can I expect?
No thanks, I already played it. But I wouldn't say no to a new Pikmin game.
@Octane Ah, you beat me to it, concerning correcting people who STILL think Hey Pikmin! is what became of Pikmin 4...
Speaking of which, to me, this is a possible indication that they want to renew people's interest in the series, so they can follow up with Pikmin 4 next year, much like they'll probably do (according to ever stronger rumors) with Metroid Prime trilogy in advance of Metroid Prime 4.
@playstation_king Here's a video of the first part of Pikmin 3:
It's Nintendo's version of the RTS game, like @Yorumi said. But they made it highly enjoyable and relaxing, even though there is a time element involved, but it's never annoying or stressful.
@KillerBOB
I don’t mind ports, from anybody. I will buy The Last of Us 2 again on the PS5, when it’s inevitably announced.
Too little and way too late for this title. I’d much rather have Pikmin 4. If it’s a particularly good remaster I’ll consider double dipping but certainly not at full price. A Trilogy pack would make me change my tune.
@MoonKnight7
Yikes at buying Last of Us 2 once, let alone twice!
@KillerBOB
Yikes for not buying it at all.
@ThanosReXXX
Thanks for the video, I do like me some RTS though haven't been much on consoles this gen, reminds me abit of a game called new liitle Kings story on the vita, will definitely give it a go if this rumour is true
@playstation_king You're welcome.
So, according to all the rumors, this year we´ll get Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Mario 3D Deluxe, Super Mario All Stars 2 and Metroid 2D, right?
That would be AWESOME lol. Although I´d rather have Pikmin 4 instead of 3...
Talking about Metroid 2D btw, I really hope is being developed by the same guys that made Samus Returns for 3DS. What a great game that was!
@ImagineerNik Good point. I will quibble lightly by saying we don't know why Metroid Prime 4 restarted its development but that is more of an update than nothing.
@PickledKong64 You'll forgive me and plenty of others for being wary since the combat wasn't really shown in the trailer. We all know what it typically means when trailers from big houses omit gameplay...
@RupeeClock Xenoblade was revealed in the September direct, though...
@Elvie Yeah, I appreciate an update. And even if Pikmin 4 suffered the same fate and development had to be scrapped, dedicating time to a port feels wrong.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe is only Wii U version including all DLC.
Pikmin 4 were anounced years ago, but is now changed to another old Wii U game?
I loved Pikmin 3, it took me a lot of time to have to have fruits and have no Pikmin dead. But I just want Pikmin 4. I feel like at this point Nintendo let me down. A lot of things seems like a remake of the Wii U. Do something new, unfair is the word for me
I might get this since I miss out on the Wii U version.
If BINGO BATTLE from Pikmin 3 Wii U becomes an online game for P3 Deluxe, this will be worth the price alone.
I'd be surprised if we don't see the Zelda HD Duo (Wind Waker and Twilight) next year. It will be Zelda's 35th anniversary, so ports of those, and maybe a HD remaster of the 3DS versions of the N64 duo and maybe Link Between World wouldnt be super hard to do.
I mean it makes sense, of the major 1st and 2nd party Wii U games to not get a deluxe port or sequel on Switch, Pikmin 3 remains one of the biggest remaining omissions along with of course Super Mario 3D World which supposedly is also on the way, as well as Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. (There are some others that I don't think will ever make the jump due to how they played like Nintendoland and Game & Wario).
I'll pass on the Wii U ports that aren't heavily upgraded. Except for Super Mario 3D World. Always wanted a portable version of that.
Hopefully they announce Pikmin 4 alongside the Switch port of Pikmin 3. Or release a Pikmin Collection with all three games in it. I'd happy buy that for full retail.
Oh great yet another port from Wii U. Their big releases often being ports from Wii U is why my Switch library is still small. I am not rebuying this stuff, especially at $60.
I freaking love Pikmin 3. It's an amazing game.
However, there's no way in heck I will buy this, except maybe years later at a very big discount, if the game has some worthwhile additions.
All of this is pretty sad, because I'm pretty sure many people wouldn't buy something like this, and they would think that there's no point in making a new entry, but in fact, I would definitely buy Pikmin 4.
A Pikmin Trilogy would be pretty cool though. I probably wouldn't buy that either, because I have the games separately already, but still.
Pikmin 3 was really good, wouldn't mind double dipping here. A remastered trilogy would be much preferred though.
@Susurrus Yeah but the portability aspect add values to these Wii U ports, these are games on Wii U we wish we would had been able to take on the go with the tablet controller.
I'd really like a remake of the first three games!
@1UP_MARIO F-Zero would be awesome! I remember F-Zero X on the N64 had a track editor for owners of the 64DD. If they made another F-Zero (or remastered GX) then the option for people to make their own tracks and share them online would be a great idea, especially with the touch screen.
No more remakes please!
Won't be double dipping myself but glad to hear Pikmin 3 is getting a second chance. Only hope Pikmin 4 is to come out sometime after though and is bigger.
@NorseGamerTommy What he meant about the 2 months before release thing is the fact that Nintendo waits till near the last minute to announce the game, instead of announcing it half a year in advance.
@Ladasta There is no problems with remakes. Wii U games deserve a second chance on the Switch.
@wazlon YES! YES MY MAN!
@tkdboy1889 you forgot the top banana, Metroid prime 4😂
I would take remakes of wiiU games any day. Still plenty of top quality games to be touched up and ported over that the majority of switch owners wont have played. Twilight Princess, wind waker, yoshi's woolly world, mario 3d,NES remix 1 and 2, Barbie dreamhouse..... Uhhhh scrap the last one 😁🤷♂️🤦♂️
Oh boy, if it's real I just can't wait for another $60 Wii U port with nothing added or improved...
whats next? are they also planning on porting Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 over to the Nintendo Switch as well or will they just be released as a trilogy?
either way, we finally get to play a Pikmin game with the Joy-Con controllers. hopefully they will keep compatibility with the Pro controller in place....
Would they really call it 'Pikmin 3 Deluxe' though? Seems like Nintendo would think of a name more suited to the franchise than that. Such as 'Pikmin 3 Replanted', 'Pikmin 3 Full Bloom' etc.
I loved 3 and I'll probably double dip, but not at full price.
If they release a trilogy, though, I'd jump on it day one, having never played 2 and only a little of 1 when I was a kid (and didn't understand a thing lol).
@ImagineerNik The port teams are usually separate from the core development teams, right?
@RPGamer ikr. It's sad. I love paper mario but I think it wouldn't hurt to try something new if it is fun.
Sweet! Despite loving Pikmin and owning a Wii U I never got around to playing Pikmin 3. If I haven't played it, it's new to me!
I might double dip if the price is fair but if this is getting a $60 release then no thanks. Bought this for $20 on the WiiU.
I get the feeling Nintendo is building their library of older games on the Switch so they can add them to the online subscription package.
Day one purchase on that beauty 😁
Nothing to suggest Pikmin 4 isn't on the way too. A deluxe version of Pikmin 3 is a great schedule filler and a way an easy way to reintroduce the series to people who maybe never owned the Wii U so likely haven't seen a Pikmin release since, what, 2004? 2009 if they owned a Wii. Same way they'll probably release Metroid Prime Trilogy before Metroid Prime 4. Reintroduce it to people.
I'm good thanks.
Only things I want from Nintendo are Metroid Prime 4 and BOTW 2.
Also I wouldn't mind an F-Zero game too.
All these "they're for everyone" but really aimed and marketed for kids games, don't particularly interest me.
I really enjoyed Pikmin 3, but I’d much rather get Pikmin 4 that should exist already. At least bring 1 & 2 along as well if you are going to port 3
@RupeeClock Xenoblade DE was revealed last year... I think a 6-8 month turn around is ideal,.. maybe 12 for bigger titles
@Octane Tropical Freeze had several new features. If that's the case, with Pikmin 3, I'm okay with it. I have no issue with the price, I'd just want all 3 games. They could come out separately at full price and I wouldn't really mind, assuming 1 and 2 got full HD remasters.
@Bermanator in my book there is. Never has there been a nintendo console with so few ”new games” from big publishers. Most of what we get is old games from other systems. I’m tired of it. I want games that are from this generation. That’s what the Switch deserves. I don’t care about the wii u anymore. I’ve already played those games. They had their time. I’ve already played borderlands, xcom and whatnot. At least the ones I wanted to play. I don’t want another vhance. I can get those on other systems for 5 $ cause they are so old. Take Capcom for example. Two new game from this generation and that was Mega man 11 and a remake of street fighter 2. Also gotten like 15 old games like Okami, resi 4-6 + revelation 1-2, onimusha, devil may cry 1-3, megaman legacy 1-500. I think it’s a waste since capcom has been one of my favourite publishers on nintendo consoles before.
More announcements like todays Paper Mario is what the Switch deserves. Not only from Nintendo but other publishers too.
@Heavyarms55 TF only got an easy mode AFAIK.
@Kimyonaakuma
Pikmin 3 had an update that added a fantastic touchscreen centric control scheme. Perfect for handheld. 2 joycon can amply mimic a Wii remote and nunchuk. Pro controller is always a good option too.
Switch has it covered.
Keeping my money. I’ve already put hundreds of hours into this game. Where is Pikmin 4? How many deluxes are we going to get?
This would be cool. Never played the last of trilogy.
@Octane And that easy mode was something I was 100% okay with. I have no shame in saying that it made the game more fun for me.
This was rumoured ever since last year but only gained force earlier this year. To be honest, it should've been out on April. I don't know what happened, maybe it was delayed because it's having new stuff and is not a simple remaster...
I’d love to know what would make it deluxe? What would be added to it to not be an exact replica of the Wii U game
@Yorumi Not at all. My interest shifted by then, is all.
The Rumer is true!?
