If building the Nintendo Labo piano seems like it'd be too much hassle, this new piece of software heading to Switch later this week might well come in as a handy alternative.
Simply called Piano, this new app lets you transform your Switch into a mini piano wherever you go. It comes with a free play mode, where you can tinkle the ivories to your heart's content, and also includes nine tutorials of "classic" songs if you happen to be a beginner.
We don't have any footage to share with you sadly, but judging by these screenshots provided by Nintendo, Piano may well be best suited for young, aspiring pianists rather than already-accomplished musicians.
It launches this Friday, 15th May, for £8.09. We're not entirely convinced that it'll be quite sophisticated enough to justify that price just yet, but we'll have to wait until it's in our hands.
Intrigued? If this doesn't seem like your thing, Switch does have plenty of fantastic music and rhythm games.

I'll try it out, sounds like would be fun to learn piano.
Cool idea..
..looks at the track list...
you must be joking?
@sanderev it seems limited to one octave, so that would limit the tunes.
Hopefully it is touch screen at least. Playing piano with buttons on a controller would be tricky.
£8.09!?!?!?!?! This had free written all over it for sure
More importantly, what's the framerate? We need to know these things...
Meh. This isn’t ‘learning the piano’. For starters, the Switch doesn’t support multi touch inputs on its screen...
A few obvious typos in the 3rd screenshot:
London "Brige" is falling down
Old Macdonald had a "Fram"
Nice something for me & my kids to play😁
"Are You Sleeping?"
I sure am, after having seen those screenshots and that price...
Isn't the piano keys there simply wrong?
There's one extra key in the middle...
Just google piano octave to see what I mean:

I think my daughter would enjoy this but I may wait for a sale price
...or you could download a free piano app for your phone/tablet.
If you want virtual pianos. Just get it on your tablet or phone for free
These apps were better than this on 3DS.
@andyc777 : Yes it does. While Nintendo's earlier systems (DS/3DS/Wii U) had resistive touch screens, the Switch has a capacitive touch screen.
Hell, Nintendo's very own Brain Training on Switch has a piano activity that may occasionally require multi-touch input.
Labo support?
This looks like absolute poo. Why is this site advertising this garbage? I could throw together a game like this with game creation software in about an hour.
They're absolutely taking the P charging 8 quid for this. LOL
@nakas Yes, it looks like garbage. Doesn't look like you can play the sharp keys anyway...
"London Brige"?
I could pay for this, or I could pay for Labo. OR... I could just use the piano in my house.
I had nothing against the game until I noticed the insane amount of typos. Makes you wonder what else has been overlooked by the devs...
Feedback to NintendoLife:
Maybe you should just do a "Roundup Friday" type of post which highlights smaller releases, all in one article.
@Silly_G way for me to show myself up! I stand corrected...
Yeah, please don't get this for yourself, your kids, or anyone! It doesn't even have the correct number of notes and there are sooo many typos!!
Do yourself a favour and install Garageband or something else that's free on your phone or tablet! Not worth it.
Finally, "hear my jam on the funky piano" 🤔
How has it taken this long for a touch screen
piano app to hit the Switch?
$9.99 USD seems a bit steep
@JoeM103 if you were this game's developer would you have made it free?
Giorno's theme on Nintendo switch
The Brain Age versions were surprisingly fun.
Will it use touch screen? Bit pointless if not
About time there was a piano app on the switch. Next we just need the paint drying simulator and then I think we will have seen the best nintendo has to offer for yet another year.
Cheers guys.
Looks like we got another game that will be 95% off soon.
So. Wrong keys? Spelling errors? No way to do multitouch?
Please NL remove this or edit the article to be less of a copy paste of a press release for a crappy product with a happy tone. We are starting to drown in shovel ware.
@Swiftstorm Right on the money.
This looks like a bit of a scam because you can download these for free on your mobile and they do the same thing.
@bl4ckbl00d that's true enough, no developer would give up their work for free. Understandably.
But also, If you were a sane person, would you pay for this when you can get it for free on another device?
This looks like trash.
@JoeM103 Yep. Must've heard the cash cow's bell ringing.
"may well be best suited for young, aspiring pianists rather than already-accomplished musicians."
You don't say!
Nintendolife breaking the news here.
Top quality journalism...
@ticketsplease
Wow, I didn't noticed the typos! So atypical for a Nintendo game this lack of preoccupation...
@Razer no of course not, but I guess if I don't have the choice of in-app ads then that'd be the only way to make some revenue. Although I'd have sold it for $1.
