GungHo Online Entertainment's Ninjala is set to receive a physical edition release in Japan this summer, it has been announced.
The news arrives via the game's official website, where it has been revealed that Japanese fans of the game will be able to pick up a boxed copy of Ninjala on 22nd July. It contains a physical cartridge, a sticker, and several in-game items that will presumably make up the product's cost; the standard game's free to download from the eShop, so this seems to be a similar deal to Fortnite's physical bundles.
The physical package has been featured towards the end of this new trailer for the game.
It's currently unclear whether or not a physical release will also make it to the west. Remember that the standard, free-to-play version of the game has been delayed until the end of June.
Are you looking forward to the release of Ninjala? Would you pick up a physical copy if it made its way over to the west? Tell us below.
Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!

Well I lost my interest in it, when I heard its f2p.
I don't see the appeal. Unless it has a solid offline mode physical is kinda pointless imo.
Hopefully it'll make its way to the west.
@Marxally
If it doesn't, you'll have to give in and get it in digital format.
@Kalmaro
Same. Online-only games have no reason to even be physical.
@DenDen
And it took this long for you to hear it's free-to-play? It's been common knowledge for a while now.
@AlexSora89 He doesn't say when he heard it, right?
But same, when I heard it was free to play with the same format as fortnite, I didn't want to play it anymore. I like games you're able to finish, not games-as-a-service that reel you in and milk you for as long as possible.
This is it. I don't care if it is even a digital download, it just needs a solid offline mode. The game looks fun and stylish and deserves a good offline mode.
@Friendly Agreed. I always feel the final boss can also make or break it for me. If the final boss is a disappointment then it kind of makes the whole game crumble.
Yay...!
Physical release ! 😀
I see no problem with this, they will obviously add some extras or some currency for the in game store.
Also collectors like physical games so this is primarily for them, where the majority of people will just downlaod it
Pretty sure, that's the reason it got delayed.
To me, this makes as much sense as any physical game.
We’re not even moving towards a digital future anymore... we’re living in it. Therefore, I only see value in physical copies if it is for collection/collectible reasons, or if it is a game known to hold re-sale value (which, due to being in a fortunate position, I’m not too bothered about). Games that don’t hold resale value generally only give between £5-£10 when traded (although I can financially afford games, I am limited on time to play them so it normally takes me a while). You can save £5-£10 if you wait for a good sale (easily making them as cheap as or cheaper than physical copies in a lot of cases).
Therefore, this is good for collectors.
I love buying certain games physical; but at this point @Rpg-lover , even if this game had an offline/story mode, unless they create an updated version of the physical edition for the west, the story mode data would be in storage anyway as opposed to on the cartridge. I see this physical game as just for collection purposes.
I'll probably try this game a few days and delete it anyway.
Just... just why? Free-to-play games have NO REASON WHATSOEVER to be released physically, unless the come with some game-related merch. If it is ONLY the game, then dont release the free-to-play game physically.
@AlexSora89
I have been out for ahwile, Thats why
I could definitely see this being a part of the reason for the month delay with how bunged up factory production and shipping's been with covid. The game felt and looked finished for the 2 matches I got into and there's no way it'd take a full month just to get more servers.
Splatoon 3 will inevitably have to increase the depth of customization to compete with Ninjala. Hopefully some healthy competition increases the level of everyone involved.
I also wonder if Splatoon 3 will make its melee mechanics more robust in response to this.
@DenDen You can lose even more interest if you ever play it. Tried the beta a few times. Yuck.
@AlexSora89 not everyone frequents gaming sites daily... so not everyone may know it’s F2P
@TimboSlice yeah I haven't heard good things.
This sort of did interest me at first because I enjoy Splatoon 2 but I've heard this isn't nearly as good.
I'll wait for Splatoon 3, especially as 2 has seen a resurgence with the upcoming Splatfest.
ok, I don't get the deal over f2p if the product in question is actually good regardless of the f2p tactic. There's games like Warframe and fortnite which don't make pay 2 win tactics, then there's games like "Kitten squad" and "Angry bunnies".
Ninjala is on par with the former 2.
@RPGamer why would the game suddenly being in physical for appeal to you? If it didn't in the first place because of it being F2P I can't understand why it would now as it doesn't add any features or modes not in the standard version you are essentially just paying for the micro transaction items at a bit of a discount price.
