Not long after all the Nintendo Direct Mini presentation earlier this week, the talented team at WayForward locked in a Switch release date for Shantae And The Seven Sirens. It'll be washing up on the Switch on 28th May, and is expected to launch for $29.99 USD.
While this new expansive quest is the "biggest outing" to date, there are still some fans out there wondering if the independent developer has plans to release downloadable content for the game. This was the official response via Twitter:
If you're planning to pick up the Limited Run physical release, it means you likely won't have to worry about any extra goodies (or game content) not making it onto the cartridge. You can find out more about Shantae's upcoming adventure – which is already available on Apple Arcade – in our previous post.

I should look up weather or not this game is good or not.
Good that means I won't regret buying it at launch like I did with Half Genie after they released the Ultimate edition
Of all the Indie characters, I hope Shantae makes it to Smash.
Good. I prefer my games to be complete at launch.
I expected DLC with the last one because I'm pretty sure Half-Genie Hero was a Kickstarter game (?).
Hopefully this will be a complete package without fulfilling any stretch goals, it already looks great as it is
Half-Genie Hero was developed with DLC in mind from the beginning, or specifically, being able to make lots of separate campaigns using the same levels over and over again.
It lead to an overall weaker game that didn't have the proper exploration that previous titles did.
I'm hoping that Seven Sirens does have more going for it in the Metroidvania department, if they're aiming to make it a more complete experience from the beginning.
They could just be saying this so that more people buy the game at launch. They don't want to lose sales because someone decided to wait longer for a better release.
@Kimyonaakuma It was.
Lol does this count as news? The absence of something happening?
Please use ‘Shantae you stay’ as the tagline for the review 😂😂
Its cool, maybe that'll mean not too long of a wait for Shantae 6, now with extra Next Gen. XD
After the last game i got burned out on this series. There are too many metroivanias releasing nowadays
Good....I hate waiting for Ultimate/Definitive/Complete/GotY editions of games to get it all at once.
Oh wow we are getting a complete game with the retail purchase! Can't say that's a bad thing!
I’m not bothered by this news; I’m just happy to play more Shantae!
As long as they release it physically i don't care.
I have Apple Arcade and this was part of the reason I got it. It’s better than the previous outing and it feels like a full fledged MetroidVania. No more areas, it’s just a map that keeps getting bigger and bigger the more you unlock abilities. It even has that mechanic from CastleVania where opponents drop abilities/perks. Sadly the Apple Arcade version had a midpoint where it stopped. So I wasn’t able to finish the game. I WILL buy the full game if released physically on the Switch.
@nessisonett Let's hope that's the review's tag line, and not "Sashay away, Shantae"!
Obligatory #shantaeforsmash
@RPGamer Yes, but details haven't been announced just yet. I'm curious to see what the goodies are.
Can publishers please learn not to stack their games? This happens every fall but what the heck is going on with that last week of May? So we have this coming out on the 28th then on the 29th Nintendo is getting Bioshock, Borderlands, Xcom, Xenoblade and Sony is getting the Last of Us part 2? Do smaller publishers not like money? Do large publishers like to just throw ports out to die? Seriously, can someone please explain the logic behind this, does delaying a game a few weeks to avoid competition really hurt sales that badly? Even larger games do questionable things like this sometimes. Wolfenstein 2 died because Bethesda had the brilliant strategy to release the game against Mario Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Origins. Really looking forward to this game but I sure as hell ain't picking it up at launch given the competition and if I don't buy it at launch I'll probably just wait for a sale.
@Chowdaire It feels like they just scramble for "School's Out" money. Like the thought process is, if it doesn't release on the last week of May, the target market isn't going to remember to buy your game before they take their long vacation. ...which makes no sense in a digital world.
@edgedino it's by WayForward so it's always good
Finally some good news!
@KingBowser86 Or in a world where a global virus has basically called off school for the rest of the year.
@Dezzy: so...if tomorrow, a well-known Virus ceases to infect/kill anyone, that wouldn’t qualify as news? I mean, is that not “an absence of something happening?” Relevance; based on Shanty 4, this qualifies (in many opinions) as relevant.
The last game (that wasn't that great) did go a bit overboard with all the dlc right? Doing the same levels over and over again, with slight variations? I didn't download them so far. Maybe in the future, but I don't need them persee.
