Yesterday, a Twitter account petitioning for the YoRHa combat android 2B (from NieR: Automata) to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC fighter, tricked a lot of people. You see, in the lead-up to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo of America's Twitter has been sending out automated responses to Twitter users, saying it will message them when the game releases on 20th March.
Every tweet it sends out includes the handle of an account and the word "confirmed" immediately after this. People saw this particular tweet, identified that it was a response from an official Nintendo account and quickly lost their minds thinking it was the real deal. It even got more than 10,000 likes:
The account that received this automated message made the most of the opportunity by pretending 2B had been confirmed for Smash Bros. Ultimate because Nintendo said so. This tweet was then favourited more than 19,000 times:
Not long after this, something similar happened when a Twitter account with the handle 'Pikmin42020' got the same automated message (see above). Sorry to disappoint, but just to be clear - 2B isn't coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (as far as we know) and Pikmin 4 hasn't been confirmed for 2020 (at least yet).

Wow. It really shows when people have nothing better to do with their time. I'm waiting for a Direct too but jeebus. XD
I would die if 2B was officially announced!
...... Still funny though. I hope a direct comes soon.... But employee safety first
I don't give a damn anymore about the direct. If it happens fine if not fine as well.
Coronavirus have overtaken most things and mentally destabilize alot of businesses/ peoples mindset. Companies closing down and working from homes! F**k this coronavirus (covid-19)😡😠.
@Rpg-lover if they have one ready this would be a good time to show it, a lot of us are bored out of our minds and video game playing is probably on the rise. 2b is a no brainer for Smash, Nier is the only Physical game I have kept on PS4, something about it felt very unique absolutely love it, hope the port it to Switch!
I have a hard time believing this really tricked that many people. The tweet makes absolutely no sense out of context. It's clearly meant to promote Animal Crossing and has nothing to do with Smash Bros.
Why are so many Smash fans convinced that everything Nintendo does is Smash related?
That being said, I think 2B actually is fairly likely to end up in Smash Bros. at some point. I could see her being the Joker of Fighters Pass 2, so to speak.
Reason number 6 why I don't like Twitter. 6 out of about 12,000.
Most social media is a cancer. Cesspits of arguments, inaccurate information, and malice.
OK, some people can't read. Sad, but not surprising.
@InvisiBulbasaur I think you're right, but we needed a Sunday NL article.
I just can't see any merit in 2B appearing in Smash.
Why does it remind me of a comic where a Disney hater founded a studio named "Succs" and did his best to get it eventually bought by the aforesaid company?
@InvisiBulbasaur I can definitely say the Pikmin 4 tweet definitely tricked a ton of people. It was trending on Twitter and I assumed something had been announced. I think it's just a matter of people not fully reading the tweets and just reacting to the bit that catches their eye. Been guilty of it myself.
Gosh people are stupid, i hate it when they don't read... -facepalms-
@Heavyarms55 I wouldn't say most. My feeling is that ultimately, social media isn't the inherent issue. It's the users. And just as easily as you can use it to moan and argue with others, you can use it for it's good aspects if you choose to do so
I only read about 12 words in this article, but boy am I glad 2B is officially confirmed in Smash by Nintendo via an animal crossing tweet for some reason, but who cares.
I just find Arlo's comment surprisingly accurate... this is what Nintendo has done to us! We're looking for any glimmer of hope.
Am I right in saying this is the longest we've ever
gone without a full Nintendo Direct?
Oh my the thought of a 2B amiibo! I wish this was true!
Silly twitter people.
Of course it is Twitter after all
Since when does anyone on Twitter actually check facts anymore?
Place is a dumpster fire just like Facebook
@LavaTwilight The record was beaten 10 days ago, old one was 182 days (March 3rd 2016 Direct to September 1st 2016 3DS Direct). It's reasonable to consider the September 2016 3DS Direct as a normal Direct given Wii U's future was very limited at that point and there was a very short Wii U segment in the Direct.
Since none of the Nier is on Switch, the character doesen't make sense in Smash Bros.
Ther only reason why Snake is still in it, is because of MGS TS on Game Cube.
@Ventilator Ahh yes, tell me about all the Theatrhythm and Kingdom Hearts references in Cloud's moveset, and all the PersonaQ2 references in Joker's...
@Ventilator I looked it up after the rumor popped up and from what I saw the series has never been on a Nintendo system in any way shape, or form, so yeah, the fact people think this character makes any sense really confuses me.
Even Cloud and Joker technically had appearances on Nintendo systems before they were confirmed. While a lot of rules are fan-made, I thought this rule was official?
2B or not 2B, that is the question.
@Harmonie Nier 1 were released on 360 and PS3 only. I own it on PS3. It were made by a different developer.
Since there is now several Devil May Cry games on Switch, there is a chance that Dante is in Fighters Pass 2.
Like some Capcom dude said in 2019. Didn't make sense with Dante with no DMC Games on any Nintendo consoles ever.
Now there is 3 DMC's ports i think.
I don't know if the character rule is official, but perhaps it is. Atleast it should be. It's just wrong to have a characters from long running series that have never been on any Nintendo console.
Atleast Final Fantasy started on NES, but got a bunch of FF since then.
Sincer Nier Automata came to Xbox One, i guess it will be ported to Switch too. Nier 1 have been PS3 exclusive for 10 years.
I think with the remaining slots they're going to go back through gaming history to find interesting, if not universally loved characters for inclusion. We've had modern in Joker and Byleth, classic in Banjo and Terry and legacy with Hero and his many alternate forms. I think striking a good balance is what's needed, so I'm good with 2B or Yooka-Laylee for the modern rep, but I#m far more interested to see what old-school characters pop up in the line-up. All I really want is Tails, but that's looking increasingly unlikely, despite a solid foundation for a killer moveset!
I tot the game will finally release for switch
2B in Ultimate might just be enough to get me to by the game. 😐
(Too bad...)
Would be nice to see Neir on the switch, It is a very good game and has a excellent soundtrack. I'm surprised Platinum has not made it so yet.
SE holding back Sora and 2B till they see the money.
Oh but remember? 2B is DLC in SoulCalibur 6 so if we're in the business of writing off Lara Croft due to her appearing in Brawlhalla then we should also write 2B off too.
@Ventilator @Harmonie
Not only that, but they'd also have to completely censor and alter her design since her entire rear is exposed. CERO has strict rules when it comes to exposed skin and got rid of Mythra and Camilla's cleavages as well as covered up some of the Pokemon girl's thighs and Mai Shiranui isn't even in the game because they didn't wanna butcher her design.
So even if Nier was on Nintendo (which it isn't), the likelihood of her getting in is next to none because they'd have to completely destroy her original design just for it to happen. So yeah, no point. It's not like Bayonetta where they can just reduce the amount of skin shadow she has. The Astral Chain protagonists should get in instead.
Twitter is not sentient. It does not think.
@UmbreonsPapa Social media is designed in such a way that it enabled the worst of people. Most sites don't even let you downvote visibly. So when people make nasty comments, all you see are the likes and lots of replies. It pushes the worst comments right to the top. And this is a standard practice.
And the shield that is internet anonymity makes people feel they can say any horrible thing they want. There's no consequence.
It's not that social media as a tool is malicious, it's just a tool which isn't good or bad. But it's a tool that the worst of people can make use of insanely easily.
@JR150 When it comes to censorship, Sony is more strict than Nintendo. Sony have censored things that were not censored on Nintendo consoles including game titles. If Nier 2 can be on a PS4 console, it sure can be on a Nintendo one.
@Ventilator
That's not the point I was making. Sure Nier could be on Switch, yes. But could 2B get into Super Smash Bros? No. CERO (Japanese ESRB) would not allow it because Smash is rated E (A over there) and games with child ratings can't have females with exposed skin. Hence all of the things I mentioned with Mythra, Camilla, and Pokemon girl spirits having parts of their bodies covered up such as cleavage and thighs. It's not allowed in a child friendly title for Japanese standards. CERO also denied Mai Shiranui appearing in Smash because her design is too risque for a kiddie game like Smash. So instead of covering her up, they opted not to put her in at all.
With that in mind, knowing full well what 2B looks like with her entire lower half showing off to the world, it's safe to say that she won't be getting in on that merit alone. Yes they could cover her up but that would ruin the design of her character and nobody would be happy with that. So ultimately I don't see 2B getting into Smash either way. Her design is just too exposed for this game according to the Japanese ratings regulations. Bayonetta only gets a pass because they have voids covering her up. On 2B it'd look off. Japan just doesn't allow naughty bits in games made for/aimed at children.
There isn't much you need to fix to get her in Smash Bros. Basically the skirt if you see here. Would still look like her.

Snake in Smash Bros is from games with 18 year old rating. Everyone seem to ignore that.
Also. Sub-Zero without MK fatalities and blood is children friendly.

They also don't have their body exposed. CERO doesn't allow characters with lots of exposed skin in this game because it's rated for children so she's not getting in. It's why Mythra and Camilla were censored and why Mai Shiranui isn't shown at all despite Terry getting in. Naughty bits aren't allowed in kid games. It's their logic, not mine.
@quinnyboy58 One of the games I would insta buy for full price after the reviews prove that it's a solid port. Would love to play this game so much.
Nier Automata and Red Dead are lonely at the top of my port wishlist haha.
@JR150 Characters in Smash Bros dont't have this angle, and the ass would not be visible much due to the 2D perspective and character size. Not much pixels is needed to cover up the ass either way, and would not ruin character look in Smash Bros as it's 2D. sidescroller levels.
Doesen't matter to be if she is not coming to Smash as i wouldn't buy this character.
The only characters i bought is Piranha Plant and Banjo & Kazooie.
I may buy King of Fighters Character sometime. Even comes with 50 music tracks.
Fighter pass 1 were basically uninterresting for me, and i guess the same for upcoming Pass 2.
Too much Fire Emblem characters for my taste.
@Heavyarms55 as someone once said. Twitter is like the toilet walls of the internet where people scrawl their random garbage.
I almost thought Nier was confirmed for Switch when I launched the NL site and saw the image. You caused some frustration.

@Ttimer5 2B has such a distracting sprinting animation...
@Ashunera84 Neither do the people who use it.
