Update (Mon 9th Mar, 2020 09:30 GMT): The Mario Kart Tour multiplayer content has now officially arrived. Nintendo is celebrating the launch with a retweet campaign on Twitter which could end up seeing each and every player receive 30 rubies and an in-game badge.
Original Article (Tue 3rd Mar, 2020 03:05 GMT): When the beta of Mario Kart Tour arrived on mobile devices last May, it didn't take long for players around the world to work out that it didn't actually include proper match-making. As we now know, the game grabs profiles of other players, which are then represented as CPU during a race.
Now, on 8th March, Mario Kart's mobile outing on Android and iOS devices will finally add real multiplayer. This follows on from a Gold Pass subscriber beta test last December. This new mode will allow you to compete against seven other players (with friends or others nearby, or with racers from around the world).
Here are the full details from the official Mario Kart Tour Twitter account:
Will you be trying out this new mode in the game when it arrives on 8th March? Are you still playing Mario Kart Tour on a regular basis? Tell us below.

I am not surprised at the benefits that will be given to players for having the gold pass, the good thing is that it does not restrict anyone from playing online, everyone can play!!, and there is a local multiplayer that is also a good thing.
Last I heard, Mario is still not available from the start so this is still a hard pass.
They seriously put out a subscription pass for this before there was even multiplayer? You'd think that the latter would've been the priority to have ready at launch, but I guess Nintendo's new profit-over-quality focus on mobile overrules common sense.
Too bad I have long dropped it. It's almost unbearable without the subscription.
Nintendo needs to get rid of the subs in their mobile offerings. I'm willing to pay a one time fee for these games if there wasn't any microtransactions. I loved the pay model for super mario run, but that obviously doesn't make as much money as fortune cookie lootboxes
If I could just buy the game and play it whenever I wanted to, I would. If I had to pay extra to play online I'd do that to. But at some point mobile players decided that paying upfront was some sort of evil, and this type of monetization is the result. Serves them right, and I don't blame any company that takes advantage of a system that the players themselves are responsible for.
At least it is a free feature for all players! Looking forward to trying it out! I like that I have yet to give this app any money, but have gotten 10+ hours of fun out of it
Let's see how well it goes. :x
WOW, nobody cares
This game still bothers the heck out of me.
Easily the worst Mario Kart game and by a long way too
I think I played this for about 20 minutes. Couldn't get along with the controls at all. Felt like the kart was driving itself.
Well that's all well and good but wouldn't you rather play some other Mario Kart game? Or just about anything else really.
i will boycott this mode because i don't understand why it's not possible to play 150cc in multiplayer mode as in the solo mode
