Despite a number of high profile video games event such as E3 cancelling plans for this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it appears this year's EVO Championship series in North America is still "moving forward" with its plans.
The official Twitter account for EVO 2020 explained how it would continue to actively monitor updates and said the health of its attendees and staff would be the overriding factor. If the event is postponed or cancelled, all ticket purchases will be refunded.
EVO 2020 previously locked-in its games line-up at the start of February. Apart from Nintendo's all-star brawler Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the event will feature Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r], Dragon Ball FighterZ, Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Soul Calibur VI, Granblue Fantasy Versus and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
If there are any updates, we'll be sure to let you know.

The end of July is still bit far off. They still have plenty of time to cancel it if things don't get better before the event.
Our local Japan expo (end of June) is in the same boat. I know for a lot of people, having a last-minute cacellation is going to be really hard, but I think most of us are optimistic that the situation will be behind us in three months, and/or are cautiously and carefully moving forward.
I certainly hope we will be out of the woods by then, but we might not be. It could be best just to cancel or postpone it just to be safe. Last thing we want is to think the situation is over here in the U.S. just for a large event to spread it again.
I guess we will see how this plays out. I like watching some matches at EVO, but if it gets cancelled I won’t be disappointed.
We are looking at a possible 18 month quarantine in the US, this will definitely be cancelled or made all digital somehow
Back-to-business-as-usual is not going to happen by end of July - unfortunately. Things might be less severe, but this kind of big gathering with folks from all over ... nope, can't say I see any way how this could be considered anything but a terrible idea within at the very least the next 6 month, if not significantly longer depending on a number of variables.
I understand how they might not want to make a decision right now, if it's still this long off, but I wager that in the end, it will get cancelled never the less. Not sure what the Olympics are waiting for though, that just strikes be as beyond irresponsible. I get how that is a much bigger "loss", if you will, but still, the notion of the Olympics in Japan of all places, sounds not just insane but downright insidious - different topic though ^^
@Ralek85 wether they cancel it or not, the Olympics will be a major note when the time comes. I hope that despite the loses, Japan comes to their senses and cancel the event. It was bound to happen sometime, and the risk is far too much to keep em going on without a vaccine.
If things do not get better, they better do cancel that event or else is gonna make them look like real irresponsible. Money should not be above the health of their consumers.
I don't care about the event. I just hope summer and a new effective drug vs coronavirus will kill the first outbreak. And the i really hope we will have a vaccine ready before the second wave
