I decided to buy X and XII since I never played them. I never finished X and haven’t even open XII... prefer dragon quest XI.
Maybe I’m just not into the FF series.
I'd get FF XII for $10, but I guess this sale is never happening.
Those are some great deals for FF games.
I hope they bring 1-6 to Switch.
Now if they could port the XIII Trilogy over to the Switch...
@step_over Still under £40 on Shopto.
@zemahon Not till the port's a few years older at least.
I see everyone is helping for how they can for this Coronavirus emergency... or maybe they're just taking advantage from this for early earnings. Wonder which ones of the two is.
@BlackKnight93 The industry: https://giphy.com/gifs/3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU
Currently working through VII, nowhere near ready to think about buying another yet.
I may be crazy, but I kinda want them to port over the other VII Compilation titles. I think I’d rather expand on this game before diving into another.
Asking for advice: VIII or IX?
I have never played a FF game. I like most RPGs, any recommendation where to start?
Time to get Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon to finish my collection.
@CooperFrank personally I would recommend IX as it is a much more traditional Final Fantasy game and for me is one of the best of the series, my favourite of the PSone era games. VIII has a junction system that can be a bit of a mess at times when it comes to setting the right things to make your characters better. Although, the story is good and the music is fantastic and at times can be incredibly moving and is one of the best sound tracks of the series.
@MagnaRoader waiting for that myself the second one in the trilogy being my favourite of the three with all the monster catching and training.
@arrmixer I've tried a few dragon quest games, I enjoy them, and they are superbly made, but they can't hold my interest.
I think FF IX was on sell sometime last year but I missed it. Not going to make that mistake twice.
@CooperFrank if you like an rpg with a modern style, try 8. If you like fantasy and magic, try 9.
If you want something in between, try 10. It's my favourite story!
(and if you're more into political conflicts and don't like turn based: try 12)
You can't really go wrong with any of them!
Good timing! This and the Trials of Mana demo made my day! We have to stay at home, but at least we won't be bored lol
I wish all Final Fantasy games were on sale. I'd love to have some 8- and 16-bit classics on Switch.
If I hadn't used my gold coins on the MUA3 expansion pass I might have picked up FFXV Pocket Edition.
Nice. Today is my birthday, and I get to wake up to a Final Fantasy Discount. Awesome. Tho, I already bought 7, 8 Remastered, and 9, on the Switch, previously. Which were the main ones I wanted, out of the ones listed. Still, discounts are always nice.
Give us War of the Lions!!
For that price, I recommend people getting FFVII, FFX and FFXII - great games!
I'm playing FFVIII right now and so far it seems pretty good as well.
Edit: @ryancraddock It's not just Final Fantasy. A lot of other Square Enix games are also on sale:
Edit 2: Octopath Traveler is also on sale, 50% off!
Edit 3: And the Trials of Mana demo is out!! How could I have missed that?! Thought it was only released on the Japanese eshop.
@Quarth I was going to make the same point! From what I hear, RPG fans shouldn’t sleep on Saga Scarlet Grace - it’s apparently the best Saga game yet. If my backlog wasn’t so big already, I’d jump on it. Fortunately, I’m sure another Square Enix sale isn’t too far away.
@arrmixer I like FF VI and IX best. But Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior I) was my first rpg ever. And DQ games have a fun sense of humor. The Rocket Slime games are an amazing spinoff as well.
I feel like FF games try too hard to make the stories too interesting, and they end up jumbled and nonsensical the longer they go on.
@garfreek right it all depends on your interests.
I snagged FFVII myself. Itll be the first time I play it 😀
@konbinilife you’re probably right. The story wasn’t terrible in X I just couldn’t get into the gameplay as much.
@arrmixer I get bored with X. It's supposed to me this amazing thing, but I enjoyed 7, 9 and 12 way more
@ViewtifulJotun I would say FF6 as a starting point if you like classic SNES RPGs.
@arrmixer all final fantasy games have different battle systems from pure turn based to ATB and even hack and slash. I think you just need to find the right final fantasy for you
@Lawnachaun congrats my friend!!
@arrmixer same here.. i like to try FF games, but when I play it it doesn't make me coming back for me.. while in Dragon Quest.. I love to go back and replay it..
@DreamerDC thanks for the tips!
Seeing as I haven't gotten around to World of Final Fantasy Maxima which I bought around the time that Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY! came out (focused on this one, got Maxima since it was 50% off) and I have X-2 which I haven't played either, I don't think I'll be buying anything. Plus, I think they'll go even lower later.
@Optimist80 FF6? Thanks but I only have a switch, is that one available?
I never got into the whole final fantasy thing. but with the new FFVII remake (not tried the demo yet) coming out,is it worth getting the original FFVII in this sale? i know its a very loved and revered game but is it worth jumping in now? what I mean is, has it aged well?
Sadly no and it hasn't had a remake worth playing. On switch I'd say 7 or 9 to start.
And of course they discount these games AFTER I bought them last week. Good timing lol.
I wish they would put the NES and SNES final fantasy games on the NSO service. And if not, at least give us the option to buy and download them.
@PlayedNSlayed in terms of visuals no it hasn't aged well even when compared to the other two PSone games. Models are very basic and simply shaded as opposed to texture mapped like the sequels. The same can be said for the FMV scenes, but the same could be said for the for the majority of early games from that era before developers got better used to the hardware. In terms of how it plays as long as you aren't expecting anything other than a traditional JRPG it has aged just fine.
I’ve never played any of the games... I know FF 7 has a lot of hype around it and for the price it seems like a good deal. Now here’s the other part of my question, do I go FF OR wait for Trials of Mana (another series I’ve never played but looks really good) Thanks everyone be well and be safe!
Is there any reason why there is no display of the prices in euro ?
VII and IX are VERY tempting, but I'd like to pick up the double pack that the former is part of in the future. Plus I have yet to play a Final Fantasy game even though I have IV (DS), VI (SNES Classic), and X/X-2 (physical import with both games on the cartridge) all backlogged.
I MIGHT cave for IX but will need to think about it. Thankfully we have until the end of the month. XD
@Tyranexx we all know you'll cave and get at least 1 anyway 😉. I grabbed 7 and dragon quest 1 btw. Both will series firsts for me.
@NintendoByNature Yeah, I probably will. XD I also need to pick up DQ I/III at some point but can wait on those for now.
@Tyranexx for sure. I'm a little intimidated jumping into either game being brand new to both. Looking forward to It though.
If one finds oneself stuck indoors for an indeterminate period of time, there are sure worse ways to spend your money.
Even on sale all of these games are twice as expensive as they should be. I would love these games on the switch just not at these prices.
@NintendoByNature I'm new to Final Fantasy; the closest series I've played to them is the Bravely franchise. DQ I can wholeheartedly recommend, though I've heard I and II are pretty rudimentary (but not bad).
@Tyranexx good to know. Dq1 will be saved for a rainy day. Ff7 I'm jumping into once i beat darksiders 2.
Nabbed FFVIII, the one I was still missing. If I didn't buy FFVII digitally already I would have bought the physical dual pack but alas.
@zemahon This is simply not a $10 game. If it drops that low great but dont hold your breath. It has more quality content than 80% of most games on the market. Well worth the asking price
@NintendoByNature From what I've read, DQ I is just simple. It pretty much involves grinding the hero up to be powerful enough to take down the final big bad. It's not a very long game.
@Tyranexx hmm well I don't much like having to grind and level up just because it becomes tedious for me, but I'll still give it a shot soon.
@NintendoByNature You'll have to let me know how it goes. I really like the series but have only played IV, V, and VIII so far. I own VII on 3DS (not sure when I'll get to it lol), want I, III, IX, and XI, and am happy to skip II and VI until a later date. X is a Japanese-only MMO, so that's not happening until I become fluent in the language. XD
@Tyranexx I would imagine it's good considering 10 games came after it 😉. But then again, some nes games are rough to play these days, but I think this is the mobile port with updated visuals.
@NintendoByNature Very true. I've technically played all ports/light remasters so far. All on the DS and 3DS!
@Tyranexx DQ 1 is simple by today's standards. For me it's pure nostalgic fun as it was my first ever rpg. There are a couple of required items/things to do before you can get to the end.
But as small kid, I was in awe just exploring the world and encountering new enemies. Lol.
I played 9 ages ago. I remember getting to the bit where you get the Blue Mage then tried to get all the spells I could instantly and getting bored and giving up. I had won all the card games perfectly and everytjing so just wanted to keep it going. Bad idea in retrospect. Have it on Switch already and haven't yet started. I did a similar thing with psclassic of 8 on my PsP... Never finished that, either. XD
@ViewtifulJotun personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them, but if you are only planning on playing one then I would recommend FF7.
If not for anything else it will help you see what the hype was all about.
It is the first that I played and I fell in love with it instantly. If you don’t like traditional JRPGs so much, then 12 is a good option. It is more like an MMO mixed with a JRPG, but still a single player story.
Have IV, VII, VIII, IX & X/X2 on Vita. But XII? Very tempted.
Edit: Don’t know why I bothered mentioning IV...
@Bizzyb Yeah, I know it’s worth it and I know I’m asking it to drop too much, but I already have the PS2 version and I wanted to play it again on Switch. I don’t like to pay that much for a game I kind of already have, so I was just willing to shave $10 for it.
Also, I think it’s kinda pricey anyway. $50 for a PS2 Remaster? I think $30 makes more sense.
Square Enix, I dream about my Switch having:
Final Fantasy 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 &
Dragon Quest 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11
Make it happen and you can take my money and that of all the fans!
I liked OctoPath Traveler and Bravely Default/Second
@konbinilife Ah, good to know! My intention wasn't to imply that it was a bad game by any means; only that it hasn't aged well, based off of some impressions I've read.
But WHY does Square keep refusing to release Final Fantasy Tactics on ANYTHING?
@ViewtifulJotun seven
@Kienda thanks. Seems like 7 is winning. I'll line it up for after I finish Ni No Kuni.
@Guru_Larry thanks. I think we have a clear winner.
@ViewtifulJotun No worries dude, it's an easy one to get into, nothing too complex or frustrating, but has an amazing story!
I ended up getting FF VIII Remastered. Seemed like the best one to get since I have had FF VII on my PS3 and PS Classic and the Switch version didn't look like anything special. The later ones don't interest me nearly as much. Can't say I'm a fan of the series but I figured might as well get one.
I have FF VII Remake PO'ed, so I do have most of FF needs covered for now. Thought up finally picking up FF X remastered, but having done a little reading just now, it seems to run in 4K on X1X, where it's also on sale. Going to go with that version then.
I also really enjoyed the Oninaki demo, but given what most reviews said, the game does not evolve much, and I can see the demo gameplay get stale a dozen hours in. I'll wait for hopefully deeper sale.
I really want to get FFX and FFXII on Switch (the classics I already have them somewhere else), but I need them to get cheaper than this... Same with Ys VIII and Ni No Kuni.
Just 25 days until Trials of Mana... Can´t wait!
I like what they did with the caracters in final fantasy 9.
Hopefully one day a full remake:)
I went and bought Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9,10, and 12. And I picked up dragon quest 1, 2, and 3.
I hope Square Enix brings the rest over to Switch eventually.
It's probably been asked many times but which one should I get? Never played a finally fantasy game ever and want to see what the series is about a little bit more. I can get one on game pass but would ideally want it on switch!
I ended up buying X. I've never played any F2F games one this seems like a good one too start with.
Just got the Mana Collection for $20. Solid.
@Nitwit13 We need an FF Tactics series collection on Switch. That would rule.
I grabbed FFVIII yesterday but i will be damned if i can get my noggin around that junction system. Thats 7,8,9,10,10-2, 12 and 15 i own and never completed a single one. Saying that i actually dont think iver completed an RPG full stop. Its rediculous really as about 70% of my games are RPG's/JRPG's
Saving a fortune on diesel at the moment so may go for FFXII.
Ended up grabbing DQ1 FF7 which I'm loving, and yesterday I grabbed FF9 on an impulse buy lol. Ill be set for a while.
I have 7, 8, and 9. Will worry about getting the other games later. I'm good with these for now. Also have a lot of other games to play through still, and getting more games soon (like Bubble Bobble 4 Friends and Zombie Army Trilogy tomorrow, among others soon). So, I'll enjoy what I have here for now, and get more Final Fantasy games later.
If you missed it there'll be another sale in a few months.
Anybody knows if all these FF games have Japanese dubs with English subs?
Picked up Final Fantasy VIII Remastered since its the only main line game i didn’t own on Switch.
I have Trials of Mana preordered. Honestly I really enjoyed the demo (more so than Dragon Quest 11). Should I even bother with any of these if I already have Trails preordered?
They should port Final Fantasy 7: Crisis core to switch.

That game is going to absolute waste!
