Yacht Club Games has made it quite clear that it's not done with Shovel Knight. In fact, at the start of this month, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove artist Sandy Gordon explained how the developer would continue to make games about the popular indie hero forever and ever.
Even though Treasure Trove is now complete, there's still the spin-off Shovel Knight Dig and the more recently announced puzzler Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon to anticipate. What about a more direct Shovel Knight sequel, though? Speaking to DualShockers at this year's PAX East, Gordon said Yacht Club was "absolutely" considering a sequel.
sure that'll happen at some point: it's something we talk about a lot
During the most recent Yacht Club presentation, the director of Shovel Knight Sean Velasco revealed the team had begun internal development on two new projects – teasing a brand new IP that was sure to interest Shovel Knight fans.
Would you be up for a sequel to the original Shovel Knight outing? Share your thoughts below.

I’d love for a sequel using an SNES inspired progression. Bring it on! ❤️🦇
I can dig it.
It'll be a bit out though, since they're making other IPs as of now.
Super Shovel Knight and Shovel Knight 64, please.
Great game! A sequel is only logical.
@Maulbert That's a nice idea!
I was so excited when I heard they have 2 games in the works. Can't wait to see if it has to do with shovel knight in some capacity. Shovel knight 2 would be phenomenal. And i personally love them to make a top down 2d dungeon crawler, zelda style 😊
They'd be crazy not to. Any company with a profitable and successful IP must consider sequels to it.
HELL YEAH BROTHER
If they want to do so, I'm all for it. But man, only if they want. Theyve been working on that ip for so long, I hope they're getting a break and doing what they truly want to do.
Is this news? I would be surprised if they "never" considered a sequel.
I would be honored to see a Shovel Knight "JRPG" of sorts.
Shovel Knight 3D Platformer. Every game he's featured in has been on a 2D plane afaik (Smash, Blaster Master Zero, Blade Strangers, etc) apart from his appearance in Yooka Laylee.
Yacht Club to team up with Playtonic and create an original 3D platformer without the Banjo Kazooie attachment would be dope
They should make some other games first. Even their spin offs probably shouldn’t be Shovel Knight themed.
Just give me the background stories of the other knights, I really want to find out more about Tinker Knight
SK Metroidvania please
Huh it seemed they were considering Dig as it's sequel with the whole new cast and it still being a platformer but I'm excited that even more Shovel Knight games are being considered.
@Maulbert "Super Shovel Knight and Shovel Knight 64, please."
That would just be the most awesome idea ever ! Now I really want those games too !
I could see a more Sonic Adventure-like 3D Platformer working better for Shovel Knight, rather than a Super Mario 64 inspired one. If they were gonna keep the pogo mechanic, I could see it being pretty hard to utilize effectively in a 3D space and would be hard to land, so turning it more into a Homing Attack-like move would make sense to me.
No matter what direction they take a sequel, it's probably gonna be great.
Honestly, I don’t know why Nintendo hasn’t bought them and staffed up so they can work on multiple projects. Shovel Knight 2 would sell like hot cakes.
Calling it:
Shovel knight The Second hope
The story of the daughter of Shield knight and Shovel knight. Maybe named Gauntlet knight. Surely the GOTY of 2021.
@Bunkerneath
Right! Same here. I want to learn everything from every character of the game! Polar knight for me.
Shovel Knight: Dug 2 Deep
It would be about a magical underground kingdom you accidentally discover and you would explore it metroidvania style but you would still have an overworld for fast travel to keep that vibe.
I'm kinda torn over this. After receiving effectively four games already, I think a "Shovel Knight, but 16-bit" would fall kinda flat. I'm all for a sequel, but I think they also need to do something to evolve the gameplay beyond the foundation they've laid. A Metroidvania would be a logical next step.
