This weekend saw the 2020 Pokémon Oceania International Championship Finals take place Melbourne, Australia, with supremely skilled trainers taking to the stage to compete for Poké-glory. One of the standout stories from the event was the final match of the Junior division, which you're about to see for yourself.
Seven-year-old Simone Lim has taken the Pokémon community by storm after managing an impressive win over Justin Miranda-Radbord, a top-seed player almost twice her age. The win is particularly spectacular thanks to an impressive read of play; Simone correctly predicted that Justin would Protect his Rhyperior, leaving his Dusclops open to attack. This meant that Simone's last chance - a Tyranitar - could be used to take down both of Justin's remaining Pokémon.
You can see that final moment in the clip below.
If you're interested, you can actually see the entire event in this video, too. If you watch from the 4:53:55 mark, you can check out Simone's adorable victory interview:
A wonderful victory, we're sure you'll agree. Congratulations, Simone!

Awww, so cute and ruthless - congrats xxx
The final round was such a mind battle which is what I love the most about competitve battling. Congrats to the young winner, she did a great job
@Rexenokid in a few years when we learn of her exams scores is when the depression for the rest of us will really hit
It's a really smart move from the Pokémon company to have junior competitions.
Pokemon really is a game for all ages, huh?
That's just awesome! Good for her!!
@neufel why not?
At this age their strategy is yet to be as good as the adult so why not?
I imagine twitter people complaining about this news
@Lordplops just like pokemon, lol
Such a cute kid!
@Tantani He’s saying it IS a good idea! I think both of you are in agreement!
And it's amazing stuff like this that I like and find it all the more ridiculous when people say "Getting into competitive Pokemon is too big or too daunting of a task".
It's not too big or too difficult for 7 year olds. ¯ _ (ツ) _ /¯
@Maxz idk why I read it as a question 😅
@Tantani haha no problem!
Congrats Simone!!
