After months of silence, the recent Animal Crossing Direct seems to have started a small avalanche of marketing and info drops for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. We've had new screenshots revealed via Walmart of all places, two new commercials straight from Nintendo in Japan, and today brings another boatload of gorgeous screens for us to admire.
This lovely selection of screens comes from the official North American Animal Crossing website (with special thanks to AnimalCrossingWorld for digging them up). We see new houses, new dialogue, Lloid, more furniture, plenty of inspiring design choices and more. Take a look.
Blimey!
If you haven't yet ordered your copy of the game, you can find lots of options right here. There's also lots of lovely merch to choose from if you're wanting to go all out for the big day on 20th March.
Are these screenshots getting you even more excited? Tell us below.

Nice I do like screenshots
These screenshots are lovely, but I can't tell if they were captured in docked or handheld mode!
I hope they release a demo for the game
Pre-loaded and ready to go, Kind I’d upset that Nintendo now block using PayPal for other countries as I wanted to get it from the Australian e shop, but it won’t let me anymore so had to go with Hong Kong’s one
I saw Rooney ! 😃
My Boxing Kangaroo is return.
Looking forward to the only new game Nintendo seem to be releasing this year!
Wishing I could hibernate or be in an induced coma until March 20th. These last few weeks are gonna take so long haha
@RupeeClock Nice haha. I would guess docked as the screenshots are above 720p, so an undocked screenshot wouldn't go above 720p.
I suppose the docked/undocked classification only applies to screenshots NL take themselves, rather than ones they grab from elsewhere.
Wow it looks SO good. Starting to become really apparent now the amount of effort put into every detail; the weave on the rug in one of the pics, cute little jigsaw on the table, it all just looks so good!
i am sold it to the possibility to put a katana sword set inside the home !!!
@Xeno_Aura @RupeeClock Haha, yeah... It'll only apply to our reviews where we can take our own screenshots. Images received from Nintendo or via external sources for news pieces will likely always be without classification. 🙂
@ryancraddock When do you guys get your review copy/copies for something like this? Given the structure of the game surely it's only fair you have a couple of weeks to play it before putting out a review and score?
Blathers! Love owls (up the owls!) and live Blathers. Always good to see him. Stoked for game.
How does this compare to Stardew Valley?
@frabbit Yeah, all going well we'd usually expect to get our hands on any game with enough time to properly play it as intended.
Can we marry Flick?
Awwwwlook at Blathers , so happy!
I never spent all that much time with these games and had fully assumed Blathers and Celeste to be married, rather than siblings. ^^
Speaking of married couples though, out of all the fan favorites to make a return so far, has Reese and/or Cyrus been spotted?
@Kulhy .
Apple's and oranges. They are different types of games, with different goals.
Stardew is more in the realm of Story of Seasons/early Harvest Moon whilst Animal Crossing is a sim involving building a community of anthropomorphized animals with personalities of their own.
I hope Kapp'n makes it in somehow. His sea chanties while traveling to islands (ironic seeing how so far he seems to be absent here) in the 3DS game were a highlight for me.
Still on the fence.... realy don't know if this game is something i would like. Is it a good game for someone that can only play in the evening being a real time game? I mean.... have to work and do things with the wife and kids.... o and the dog....
On the other hand... there's nothing else coming out in march.
The game looks amazing, and it's been far too long since new leaf, or even longer when you consider the last home console version was City folk.
Ive had an animal crossing countdown open to keep track of the SECONDS ive got left until I have this game.....hype is overloading
@FoxMcCloud
you really dont wanna have that itch of regret bothering you that you didnt buy the game right???? Let Tom Nook make you a slave to debt
I am excited. It's been since the Wii that an Animal Crossing game is on a console. I plan to download the game, my niece, she uses my account on the Switch I gave her, so I buy it for myself and she can download it too. She's ten and adores the animals in Animal Crossing.
The new look of homes is stunning, a much needed upgrade!
Looks good. This looks to be one of Nintendo's evergreen titles. I wonder how much expansion it will get via dlc?
@FoxMcCloud
"Is it a good game for someone that can only play in the evening being a real time game?"
Don't worry too much about the time.
In every Animal Crossing games, before you start the game it will be Always asked with the date and time. You can start the game with current day but with the time as you want to start. For example, you play on Saturday 6 pm, but you can start the date and time with this : Saturday (same date) and what time you want to experience is up to you. You can start 1 pm or 11 am or 4 pm, etc with specific minutes. So, when you start the game you can always get the right time to play.
@Anti-Matter I don't know whether you can change the date and time in this game, can you? I thought it used the Switch's current date and time so you couldn't "time travel"?
@Matthew010
When you start the game (for example ACNL 3DS) Isabelle will ask you about the date and time before loading the game. In here you will see the current time at date assumed you set the right time and date from first time playing. Before you load the game, you have a chance to whether start the game with current time or you want to change the date and time before playing. Doing this will not change the actual date and time on your system. But if you change the actual date and time, it will also change the date and time on ACNL.
Previous Animal Crossing also did the same thing. Rover / KK Slider will ask your current time and date before playing.
Public projects are back! Can’t wait to see some new ones
@Anti-Matter I know you can do it in previous entries, I was saying I thought they had decided not to implement this in New Horizons to prevent time travelling.
@Matthew010
Wait, so it will be like Pokemon Sword / Shield (Time will be based on my Switch's time) ?! 🤪
@Kulhy I wouldn't campare them at all since Stardew Valley has hack n slash, farming, an energy meter and side-stories among other things.
Animal Crossing has neither. It's more focused on customization and collecting. It's better to compare it to a real time Sims game. It's very slow and very chill.
@Anti-Matter Supposedly yes, I guess we'll have to wait and see!
