A brand new trailer has been released for the upcoming soccer anime title Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions, set to launch on Nintendo Switch later this year.
It gives us our first proper look at the game's story mode, which is especially helpful for those who aren't familiar with the manga the game is based upon. You can check it out for yourself above - don't worry, it still features all the over-the-top shots and shouting you'd expect - but we also have a description in written form straight from Bandai Namco below:
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will feature a story mode allowing players to relive the iconic story of Tsubasa Ozora, the Tsubasa Episode. This story mode will cover the whole National Middle School Tournament and include some of the most epic matches of the original material. The Tachibana twins, Hikaru Matsuyama, Kojiro Hyuga and many more of Tsubasa’s greatest rivals are set to appear in the game, bringing their best moves to the field! Depending on the score and match flow, special cutscenes may be triggered, either precisely retracing the story or allowing for some brand new surprises.
We're still waiting on a final release date for the game, but here's hoping we don't have to wait too long before getting our hands on it. We'll make sure to update you when we have more info.
Until then, feel free to tell us whether or not you've been keeping an eye on this one in the comments below.

Who got story in my soccer game?
j/k
I'm more interested in Inazuma Eleven Ares than this.
@Magician But now we can have two soccer games with stories!
@Magician Same, but I'll take both.
Fifa & pes has left the chat.
I remember playing this sort of rpg game of Captain Tsubasa when I was a kid. Since the game was in Japanese and I didn´t speak it, I started drawing the japanese characters as best as I could and writing what that symbol did... A lot of trial and error but i loved it, I will definitely get this game
Can't wait for this!
Looking great!. This will be amazing on my commute. Day 1 for sure.
Set a day and take my money!
And I thought this was a spin-off for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE....
I feel bad for these goalies. Like meat sack punching bags!
Why don’t they have freaking powers?! Everyone else can turn into a bear or truck and shoot rockets but the goalies can’t turn into stone or something and block it?! They gotta take a beating time after time?!
No girls will date them!!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!
@TimboSlice applies in real life as well, outfield players get all the glory and awards, win the balon 'dor (player of the year). Even if a goal keeper breaks a record for like clean sheet streak going 12 games (974 minutes of playtime) without conceding a goal nobody really cares that much. Such is the life of a keeper
