Update: The new Coral Switch Lite has now also been confirmed for release in North America! It'll arrive slightly later than in Japan, on 3rd April.
Original Article: Nintendo has revealed that a lovely Coral Nintendo Switch Lite system is headed our way in just over a month's time.
The new colour will join the already-released Turquoise, Yellow, and Grey models on 20th March - the same day that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is due to launch for Nintendo Switch.. At present, it's only been confirmed for release in Japan, where pre-orders are set to go live on 7th March.
Despite recent confirmation from Nintendo that the coronavirus outbreak has impacted production of Switch consoles, it would appear that these new Coral Switch Lites are unaffected. The first batch of these systems was manufactured in January, so they're all good and ready to go.
Here's hoping Nintendo releases this in the west, too! Would you get one?

I like the colour, but I still don't see any point in owning a Switch Lite. I'll stick to just getting the Animal Crossing Switch to upgrade my current one.
So they initially launched a blue and yellow model and now we have a red one. This confirms it. We now have Lites representing the Blue Lions, Golden Deer, and now the Black Eagles from Three Houses. They're all here now.
(Gray one could be seen as Professor/Church. )
Yummy. Finally my salmon pink trousers and cravat will be complimented by a suitably shaded system.
@JR150 Gray is for Ashen Wolves, of course!
@BenAV
Haha, I didn't see any point in getting a Lite myself. But. I just did it. I havent used my Original since release of Lite.
I only play handheld and it's much more convenient!
Did Nintendo fix the D pad though
Nooice! I daresay this looks better than turquoise and I love turquoise.
Nintendo Switch really needs White color bundle.
Swoons in pastel pink
Looks very nice!
@Anti-Matter he, I was just thinking of my white joycons, then remembered you have them too 😀
Ugly color, could be a more vibrant pink
@Skalgrim surely you miss the hd rumble though as that's the reason I sold my lite?
@USWITCH64
Nah, not a big deal for me. Wish I had it sometimes. Some games benefit from the rumble. But most times I forget rumble is a feature
Nice, Rick Grimes' favourite colour!
Those colours look better together. Damn you Nintendo for making me want all three of them !
@Lordplops I’ll be needing pics please
It's pastel pink. Nintendo Life sure does get easily excited.
It's not animal crossing, but I'm sure my wife will like it just the same.
I already have the gray, yellow, and Pokemon Switch lite systems. I want this system too lol. Since I'm already getting the Animal Crossing console next month, I'll have to wait on picking up one of these.
Brilliant, perfect colour for the Mrs.
@trakkerx Exactly - Nintendo’s logic is obvious here.
At the recent investors briefing, it was noted that “Of the 57% of consumers that purchased Switch Lite (as their first system), Nintendo is seeing a higher percentage of female users than it had for Switch in the past, signalling further expansion of the female consumer base."
The intention of this model is clearly to appeal to that demographic.
@Skalgrim @BarefootBowser I play my Switch in handheld 99.9% of the time but the Lite still gives up way too much to be a viable option for me. No rumble or TATE mode are deal-breakers.
@BenAV
Excuse me. What is "TATE mode" ?
Always down for new colors. Currently searching for a Pokémon Edition Switch Lite that’s not inflated $50-$100 over MSRP by resellers.
@Skalgrim @BenAV
Tate means Vertical, because using Japanese words is the cool thing to do... Don't get me started on Ghost Blade HD using that in the English translation.
@Yoshi87
I’ve been frustrated with the current colours from release, until I actually seen a grey one in hand. It’s actually better (or looks it) than then grey coloured joy-cons from the full fat. With the new flip case on the grey lite it’s almost perfect, almost due to the white thumb sticks. Hopefully we start seeing more colours! I would love to see some more man colours if possible.
@BarefootBowser I play Groove Coaster regularly (200+ hours) which wouldn't be worth touching on a Switch Lite. I play a really wide range of different games in general and one of the things that I love the most about the Switch is its flexibility (handheld, docked, vertical, detached Joy-Con, touch screen with no Joy-Con, etc.) and the Lite loses out on that flexibility so it's definitely just not for me. Being smaller and lighter only really matters to me when it comes to something that can fit in my pocket.
@trakkerx I totally agree that the Grey Switch Lite looks slick, particularly with the white buttons which leave a very clean feel to the whole unit and the matte finish is nicely done.
I am really surprised they didn’t release a light / tinted green Animal Crossing Switch Lite – but I guess they went for the flagship Switch unit given that Nintendo’s overall profit margin is somewhat higher for those than the Switch Lite, even though the Lite is cheaper to manufacture.
@Yoshi87
Yes they really want everyone to own both consoles I think. Just a shame they can’t fix the account setup for two consoles 🙈🤣
@BarefootBowser The Dpad itself is already a no deal for me, if it performs anything like the pro-controller. In addition, the dpad is too far under my thumb for me to consider using it comfortably.
For me the switch lite just doesn't seem like a "value" buy. It makes sense just to save up an extra hundred dollars for the base switch. For someone to save $100 to sacrifice the ability to play on a big tv you also sacrifice the ability to play local multiplayer comfortably which is a big pull for the switch. Then you sacrifice the ability to swap out joycons, which I religiously use the daemon ex machina joycons due to the semi decent dpad and larger size.
@trakkerx I think you are right. Personally, I am genuinely divided on this. I really like the Switch Lite’s form factor – particularly the non-detachable Joycons as I think the Lite is likely to be more robust over the long term whereas I can see my original Switch deteriorating even if I take real care of it, just because the rails tend to loosen over time. However, I don’t want to completely lose docked mode.
The obviously solution, as you say, would be to buy another Switch – however, I have experience using the game sharing system and honestly, it’s annoying. I don’t like being forced to make one Switch my ‘primary’ console and another that is tied to Wi-Fi which might not work one day. At present, it’s therefore basically pointless to have multiple Switches until they sort this out.
I really admire Nintendo generally speaking, but their online system is rubbish when compared to the competition.
I don't like the Switch Lite and still think it's a basically strictly inferior device. But that is a nice color.
Still, I feel like white buttons would show every little spec of dirt and grime real quickly.
Looks like one of those soft shrimp sweets we used to get in England when I were’t lad.
And yes, dark blue or dark aqua green please. My imported midnight navy Japanese DS Lite is still the best looking color I’ve held .
@Heavyarms55 I can see why someone would say this but honestly, after playing with my kids one, I just want it. BUT it Hs to be able to go into the tv! The whole point! But as a handheld it’s way superior imho.
@BarefootBowser amen. Managed to loose all my little ones stardew valley stuff as I fiddled around I can’t play Minecraft etc...rubbish!
@BarefootBowser So in order to combat a system that has limits to trying to be both a handheld and a full game console, you limit yourself further for the sake of it being a handheld? I don't understand that but you're right in regards to options.
If you want information on the Dpad check out spawnwaves videos in regards to it. It effected me the most when playing dragon quest builders 2
I'm not a fan of this color, but I do like that Nintendo is adding more variety to the Switch Lite family. Here's to hoping that a dark red and darker blue variants show up. I'd also settle for a deep purple.
This looks nice. I've been pondering a turquoise Lite myself. I have the grey one but it has taken some damage
Acid green, atomic purple, and pumpkin orange!
Finally, a color I like, i might get one when a jailbreak comes out for it.
@BarefootBowser
I gotta agree about Spawn Wave, I like his tech videos, but i don't like the guy, I hate his personality.
Cool color! Definitely not for me but looks good imo. Nintendo should really just go full on and let you fully customize a switch direct from them like Microsoft does
@BarefootBowser You mentioned you don't know the reason people don't like the dpad and I referred a video. You don't have to watch it. However, I don't find the lite superior in any aspect. I've had probably a good 3 hours on my sisters when she was living with me and I wasn't a fan. The form factor is cool but the utility isnt there. I also like having my friends over to play either smash or mario kart, which the switch lite lacks.
Nintendo's first party games look much better docked anyway. BOTW and Xenoblade 2 are miles better docked, so it's not just third parties that suffer from not being docked.
Awesome 😎👍 please add more colors!!!!!
So I’ve had many different switch and I’ve settled on a Lite, do I think it’s better than the full fat? No but for me it is currently, that could change. For me in all the time I’ve owned the full fat I’ve had it docked like once! I’m handheld I wasn’t keen on the joy-con movement, only minor but bugged me. I wasn’t too keen on the weight or size of the full fat either. I think for me the perfect switch would be the lite but with the option of docking it but more importantly proper Bluetooth support!!
Interesting. It seems to be releasing the switch in the same colours (although a slight different shade) as the Gameboy colour. Maybe a purple Or green one is on the horizon.
Cool, I like it more than the teal and gray but I still prefer the yellow.
@BarefootBowser Yes personal preference does play a massive role in the consumer. I'm speaking more functionally and spec wise in regards to it's value, you seem to be speaking more biased in regards to the lite's functionality. However, I hope you have a good day as well!
I really want a lite, but i already have the og switch
That's one gorgeous colour, but if I ever get a Lite, I would probably go with the yellow one.
Can I just say that Nintendo has knocked it out of the park with the Switch Lite colours? They're all great shades and I honestly couldn't say which one I like most.
Beautiful. If only I could play my Animal Crossing save file on 2 systems...I would get it. Too bad Nintendo. Too bad.
Ugh why all the pastel colors Nintendo?
Maybe they will fix the Joycon issue finally
I'd like to get a Lite, but I'm holding off until
it's confirmed the drift issues are corrected for good.
Gorgeous?????????????????????????????????????????????????? It looks drab, as are all the other lites.
@JR150 Nah, don't you see that they are different colour tones?
