Normally when GameStop's internal database lists new SKU, it means some big announcements are on the way. For example, prior to E3 last year it added more than 20 Nintendo Switch placeholders.
Now, it's done it again, with Twitter user @YuYuKamii revealing a total of 12 SKU for Nintendo Switch have been recently uploaded to the company's system. Here's the tweet:
https://twitter.com/YuYuKamii/status/1212395645891489792
As noted, when this sort of thing happens, it's a sign of incoming announcements. Some of the other titles on this list include Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore and Level-5's Snack World: The Dungeon World Crawl - Gold.
Leading up to the end of last year, there was a lot of talk about a Nintendo Direct taking place, so it wouldn't be a surprise if a broadcast took place early on in 2020.

Makes sense, besides a few games that have a far off possibility of making it at the end of the year, there isn't a whole lot besides Animal Crossing to grab headlines.
Let the guessing games begin!
A January 2020 Direct makes perfect sense... Fiscal Year end in March.
Maybe next week?
Well we did just have an indie direct. Considering how little there is on the horizon of first party titles by Nintendo, Animal Crossing aside, it would make sense for one to occur this or next month for sure.
@JayJ True, plus Spring is going to be insane for PS4 with FF7, Cyberpunk, Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal, Resi 3, Last of Us 2 and Doom Eternal. Nintendo really need to compete considering they don’t have much slated compared to a console on its way out.
All the skus are for Amiibo's.
Ah well, here we go again. Another direct, another set of complaints and disappointment from "fans" who care about nothing but themselves.
About bloody time. Right on time for 2 or so weeks before the next amiibo wave, too. Hard to believe the base game amiibo are just now about to wrap up.
Just wait from Nintendo Direct or check from playasia to find out upcoming Switch games.
Sometimes there are some new Switch games has been announced out of Nintendo Direct.
@holygeez03 yup, that's why so many games are coming end of March to begin the fiscal year off well - we just don't know what games those are yet aside from Animal Crossing and Doom Eternal
@JR150 nobody was upset when they showed off Animal Crossing at E3 and i remember tons of happy comments in September about Xenoblade DE, Overwatch and Rogue Company
It seems it might be but we have to see it first. New announcements are good but you have to be careful about rumors because they may stir more rumors. It's never ending...
"Happy Happy Joy Joy!"
@isellpixels
Bruh people get mad no matter what. "Where's Pikmin! Where's Metroid! Ew a Smash Bros character I don't like! Ending with Xenoblade was weak!"
It's a salt fest that I am not ashamed to admit I enjoy watching. XD
As soon as special update maintenance appeared on the Nintendo Network Maintenance site, I had a feeling there'd be a Direct next week.
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/netinfo/en_GB/index.html
Whether the update is big enough to be a topic for the Direct is the question.
@JR150
As someone who only watches Nintendo Directs for news about folders, the focus on games in every direct sincerely disappoints me. Who cares about Mario Zelda, or Xenoblade? After all who doesn't buy a video game console for the folders on the home screen?
/s
Imagine if one of those was Bayonetta 3!
@Grumblevolcano Oh, that's actually some tasty data. Thursday announcements with Tuesday air dates have been pretty common.
There are a lot of new Switch owners and not much in the way of 2020 announcements for the console yet. I think a Direct makes perfect sense.
The Switch had a great balance of Nintendo first party titles, indie games and a growing number of AAA third party games. I hope that continues in 2020.
No, since all of them is listed as 31 Dec.
I’m not an expert but maybe placeholders?
Well Sakurai did say that the Fighter's Pass will end in February so maybe we'll get a direct either this month or next month.
They also have THQNordic’s Biomutant listed as a SKU that has since been removed. Could we see that announced as well??
@m8e3point1415
I'm not saying all of them act this way. Not at all. But the ones that do are hilarious to witness.
Since i've never had a WiiU - Please give us Switch owners some Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD love! <3
All I hear is this.

@Grumblevolcano I noticed this too. Neatly coincides with Nintendo of America updates at about the same time (in another time zone of course) https://www.nintendo.com/consumer/network/en_na/network_status.jsp
No way. You mean to tell me that a current video game system is going to have new games?
Dont know where i saw it, but I'm sure i saw something about a direct on Monday (6 January), maybe it was twitter
I hope it happens before I leave the country. I won't have wifi for 12 days.
@eRaz0r we are in the same boat pal... I've been waiting without patience Mario 3D world..
Sooo... new games and the Switch getting its long-awaited V 1.0 firmware update at last? xd
Also, Super Mario 3D World port needs to happen at some point. With how well it's made for quick sessions of play with a great multiplayer component, it's honestly baffling how this one hasn't been ported yet o.O
@JR150 I see what you saying, and personally even though I'm often quite disappointed by the number of games that interest me in directs, it's not about individual gamers – and normally there is at least something for everyone.
And besides, at this point probably all of us have more fantastic games already on our Switch than we have time to play.
So even if one game per direct peaks my interest – it's enough now. And I suspect when Animal Crossing comes out other games will cease to exist for me for a while.
@brunojenso
Exactly. This but Tokyo Mirage Sessions for me. It was a blast on Wii U and a unique experience I haven't found anywhere else. Atlus does really good RPGs so I'm stoked to play Shin Megami Tensei V whenever it comes out. But for TMS to get a second chance is much more important right now since almost nobody played the original. Such a beautiful underrated game marred by controversy when it really does teach you a lot about Japanese society.
At any rate, here's to a great start for 2020!
@nessisonett all truth, PS4 and Xbox one are on the way out and still manage to have an awesome line up for 2020! Let’s see what Nintendo has in store
January Direct makes a lot of sense, but we've been here before... I'll keep my fingers crossed, and my expectations low.
In terms of announcements, I agree with others that have said Mario 3D World port. However, with no announcement already made, and surely an inevitable Mario Odyssey 2 announcement coming at some point this year, you'd think, it's difficult to see a scenario where Nintendo does both. Perhaps 3D World to kick off the new fiscal year in April, and then Odyssey 2 as the holiday title? Still feels a little too close for Nintendo to actually do it.
I'm still surprised 3D World wasn't lined up for December or January. Unless of course Odyssey 2 isnt a thing, and they're doing a 3D World sequel instead... but that seems a bit crazy too.
We wait and see...
I was hoping for botw2 in 2020 but now that I have the chance to play xeno1 for the first time, I think I can wait for a 2021 release..
Other than that, I'll play along with the year, whatever it brings
@nocdaes I'd guess that before the E3 delay announcement, Animal Crossing was originally planned for December.
Gasp, new games are in development for this totally obscure and not very well known platform that clearly nobody owns...
Oh wait.
I don't get why this is surprising or newsworthy. Pretty clear we'd get a Direct soon, it's been a while since the last and Nintendo always does one around this time of year (jan/feb).
I would be very surprised if the direct is not on the next Thursday...
Gonna miss these super vague SKU sheets when Gamestop finally goes under. I never wanted it to. But then they gave me 2 dollars for a 60 dollar game, and I became indifferent
Would anyone care saying what SKU stands for ? Not what it means - the actual letters ? Thank you
I guess it's that time again.
@echoplex Stock Keeping Unit
Makes sense considering the release schedule between April and June is sort of barren on Switch.
Hopefully the Rune Factory port will be released around the time of the direct, it was originally supposed to be released by the end of last year
There’s GameStop employees who said these skus have been in the system since November
@bert0503 Bayonetta 3 already has a sku because it was announced years ago
@NorseGamerTommy Thank you !
I believe the first 2020 Direct will be in February
@nocdaes 0 evidence or rumours of a Odyssey 2 even happening
Honest question, why do they have a placeholder date of 12/31/19? Shouldn't they at least be 12/31/20?
Why did they block out the pricing???
I knew about this tuesday..and why hasent nintendolife covered the update the Nintendo switch is getting Monday and that all services will be shut down for a hour???
@Bunkerneath no switch online will be down for a hour on Monday which in return we will have a firmware update
@Hobbesyall not really at least 2 years befor the ps4 and xbox one stop getting games.not everyone is going to have a ps5 or xbox series x in the first year and which it being a 5 to 6 hundred dollar console.i buying both but I dont see parents running out to buy the kids one
@DarkSim01
This is no place for rational questions. Just get hyped
@Bucky Fine.... AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Can someone please tell me, are these SKUs specifically for software? How likely is it that Nintendo would release a better base switch/switch bundle? Just bought a Mario Red Switch Bundle and need to know if I should return it and wait...
@Legitpsycho It’s software - it says it on the top of the GameStop sheet of paper
@KBuckley27 Oh I know there's no rumours, but a 3D Mario in 2020 or 2021 is very likely, and Odyssey 2 is the most viable candidate in my opinion - closely followed by something entirely new. I dont count the port of 3D World in that either, I think that'll be in addition - if it happens.
Knowing Nintendo they’ll probably keep us in the dark until E3... 2020 better not be a drought year for the switch. They’ve got heavy competition this fall.
@JR150 asking when a certain game is being released isn’t selfish or means someone is less of a fan than you. That’s pretty ridiculous thinking.
Here they are:
1. Metroid Prime Trilogy
2. Super Mario 3D World
3. Xenoblade Chronicles X
4. Pikmin 3
5. Paper Mario Collection
6. Super Mario Sunshine remaster
7. Golden Sun
8. Kingdom Hearts I.5 + II.5
9. The Stanley Parable
10. Alan Wake
11. Mother Trilogy
12. Final Fantasy IV-VI Collection (remastered Octopath style)
@JR150 Welcome to the Internet. Should we stop having fun trying to guess what's going to be announced? I don't think so, but if you call that being "selfish" and "thinking only about yourself" then I'm going to have to rethink the state of mind I should be in when I'm watching Nintendo Direct: Do I want to be hyped by announcements that I think are interesting and will make me buy games, or do I want others to have fun before me, even if there's nothing else interesting? Because I don't care, I want to play games on my console that interest me, so people can have their own stuff, that' cool for them but I don't give one, so please explain to me what I have to think about not to be selfish.
Does being disappointed make you a fake fan? Since you put the word "fan" in quotation marks, that's clearly what you're implying anyway.
I too think there are a lot of idiots out there who are really getting their hopes up, like we're going to get a StarFox, an F-Zero, a new Mario 3D and a new Zelda with 2 Metroid simultaneous releases, but I don't know if you realize how your comment is exactly the kind of comment that's even more horrible than the old trash comments of disappointed guys who are just going to go away. I mean, really... It's just bad.
